About

ELVIS COSTELLO IN CONCERT:

He may be the "other Elvis," but when it comes to clever, madcap,  personality-drenched rock and roll, there is only one Elvis Costello. From his days in the British punk and new wave scene to his pioneering role in the rise of power pop, Costello has repeatedly broken the mold, appealing to both cult and mainstream audiences. On tour as a one-man-band in  2013, he displayed serious performance chops, making a backing band seem obsolete with beautifully stripped-down versions of classics like "Allison" and "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding." Hitting the road again in 2014, Costello will be treating fans to his acclaimed solo show as well as select dates with his band the Imposters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

London-born Declan Patrick MacManus, better known as Elvis Costello, began playing music at an early age under the influence of his father, a talented musician and bandleader. After playing in a pub rock band in his early twenties, he released his solo debut album My Aim is True in 1977 to moderate success, landing in the Top 20 in the UK and Top 40 in the US. Shortly after forming his backing band the Attractions, Costello  released his breakthrough 1979 album Armed Forces, a No. 2 hit in the UK and an enduring new wave classic. In addition to his knack for catchy, clever songwriting, Costello's provocative performances, pointed political lyrics, and anti-authority attitude helped fuel his success. With more than 30 studio albums under his belt, Costello's impressive run continues with another highly anticipated tour in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Simply an amazing show. So many great songs, and the man just doesn't stop! A great experience!"

"It's amazing that all of the talent on display was coming from one man. He played for nearly two and a half hours and not a second was wasted. Performers like him are a rarity."

"Quirky, eclectic and utterly entertaining. Elvis' voice is as distinctive as ever, and while he played many of his classics, the set list included many songs that were throwbacks to his father's time. I have a whole new appreciation for the man's guitar talents."

    Simply Pleasing

by JerseyJeffrey on 2/28/23Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort - Atlantic City

It was great to see Elvis Costello after many years! Sitting there listening to him live was pleasingly comfortable. He's not the guy everyone jumps from their seat anytime he plays one of his hits, well some do. You somply sit there rocking to the beat with a smile on your face.

    way

    by L. B. on 2/28/23

Gained an even deeper appreciation for Elvis Costello during this show! Second time seeing him and while the first show (2018) was also amazing, this one topped it. Loved the set list (a mixture of well-known material with new stuff and songs I didn’t know, and I enjoyed every moment of it), the band was incredible, Elvis sounded great, and he just exuded warmth throughout the show. I loved his banter and his constant kudos to the band. The crowd GOT IT, too, which was important. I’m itching to go see him again! Wish I’d gotten to see a solo Gramercy show, too. Acoustics at Wind Creek could be better, but it didn’t diminish my feelings during this show. I left with my love of live music fully revived.

    Sloppy seconds

by Microwave on 2/27/23The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

Couldn’t get tickets for the Gramercy Theatre. Sure enough the crowd at Bethlehem was old and slow by comparison but we were able to get tickets. I feel like Elvis was coming down from the high off a 10 night stand and we were a real buzzkill. I have to agree though.

Was not a big fan. But when you see someone live it changes your whole perspective.

by mmccaff on 2/26/23The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

Bucket list. Check! They were terrific and played songs from the new album, didn't just rest on their laurels. Loved every minute. Only negative was side wing acoustics. We were close but still hard to hear talk.

    Elvis and the Imposters

by TJ on 2/26/23The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

Great show by the band with a good mix of old and new. First time for a show at Wind Creek and must report the acoustics leave much to be desired. Also have a friend who was too late to get accessible seating. There was plenty of room for him, but assume making money on as many paying customers trumps any concerns about the former.

    Elvis - great as always

Another memorable and unique show by an artist who continues to push boundaries and defy expectations after 50+ years as a musician.

by Rob N on 2/22/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

I enjoyed the show & loved the idea of Elvis Costello. playing different songs every night with the sole exception of What's So Funny About Peace, Love & Understanding which though wriitten by Nick Lowe, it is iconic to to Steve Nieve was great & loves when Elvis got the crowd to say "Steve, Steve, Steve. Such deep respect between musicians. Some other highlihts were Ive Still Got that Other Girl, So Like Candy & The Beat.

    Elvis is on the Building

by Joe R. on 2/20/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

An evening with Elvis was intimate and low keyed. He played several songs I didn't recognize, but with just the acoustic and the accompaniment of his old time friend and previous bandmate, it was special

    A fantastic show!

by Julie on 2/19/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

While I've only seen a double-digit number of Elvis Costello shows (compared to the triple-digit numbers fans seated around me have seen), Night 6 ranks as one of the best ever, among all of us. . I'd go to every one of the 10 nights if I could.

    cool but self-indulgent

by rjwtrust on 2/17/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

While it was very cool to see Elvis in an intimate setting, the set list was just too obscure for my taste. I probably well know 70 of his songs, yet only recognized 5 during the evening. If you're going to give us Burt Bacharach, mix in one of Burt's all time greats along with 1 of the relatively unknown co-written with Elvis songs. I did like Elvis' banter so major kudos for the setting and ambiance.

    ELVIS IS KING

by brandyflower on 2/17/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

Some of the most special ELVIS COSTELLO shows I have ever seen... or perhaps have ever been performed. Seeing him such a small intimate venue, armed with just a guitar, voice and a bunch of stories was a once in a lifetime (I ultimately saw him 4 times here) experience I will cherish forever. So many songs from his catalog has inspired me to go back and obsess over the ones I wasn't familiar with until hearing them here. I hope he brings this style of shows to Los Angeles, I would buy the whole 10-night package! ELVIS IS A UNIVERSAL MUSIC TREASURE, thank you EC

    Up Close & Personal

by BrettOG on 2/14/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

Great seeing Elvis in such a small venue like the Gramercy. His wife was hanging out at the downstairs bar! That said...the content of the show was deep deep dish. The selections were not for the casual fan. Even some ardent fans were left wondering the source of fringe work he showcased. Another miss ws the amount of feedback he was using thru pedals to cover for the lack of back up musicians. I get it. You want the song to sound fuller. The echo and reverb was too much tho. It was a good experience but left many wanting. That isn't what an entertainer shoud do.

    Elvis Perfect

by Hop on 2/13/23Gramercy Theatre - New York

There’s no question that EC in this small venue in a residency format is unparalleled. I just wish ticket pricing was more transparent. Navigating the asinine ticket system has become an anchor on the experience.

    not so much....

by long time E fan on 12/31/22Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

Just was not what I was expecting. I know Elvis has an extensive catalog, but a lot of the tunes I had never heard of. Didn't play hardly any of the old hits (thats why lots of us come). I understand it was for charity, and apprecitate that. Was more like a jam session with his friends, was not really all I hoped it would be. Also did not expect a 30+ minute intermission, but I know that was the charity part.
