About

Elvis Costello is a writer and part-time musician who made a number of records in the 20th Century, some of which are still remembered today.

He was born in London and raised there and in Liverpool.

Costello is the composer or lyricist of over six hundred published titles, including fifteen songs co-written with Paul McCartney and renowned collaborations with Allen Toussaint, the Brodsky Quartet and T Bone Burnett.

Costello's songwriting alliance with Burt Bacharach, began in 1995 with the song, "God Give Me Strength", which led to the 1998 album, "Painted From Memory", before their work was collected in 2023, on the four-album set, "The Songs Of Bacharach & Costello".

Elvis Costello songs have been recorded by Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Chet Baker, Dusty Springfield, Solomon Burke, George Jones, Linda Ronstadt and Bjork, while among the artists with whom he has written songs are Loretta Lynn, Carole King, Rosanne Cash and Kris Kristofferson and his wife, Diana Krall.

Working purely as a lyricist, Costello has provided words for the music of Billy Strayhorn, Oscar Peterson and for twelve Charles Mingus compositions and as a composer, set twelve unpublished lyrics by Bob Dylan.

2024 will see the opening of "A Face In The Crowd", Sarah Ruhl's stage adaptation of the Budd Schulberg story for which Elvis Costello composed the songs.

"A Face In The Crowd" will open at the Young Vic in London on INSERT DATE, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and produced by Adam Kenwright.

Elvis Costello is the author of "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink", a more than six-hundred page memoir which has been translated into six languages. He has received a range of awards over his 45 year old career of which the induction into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is probably the most significant.

Although he holds two honorary doctorates in music - one from the University of Liverpool and another from the New England Conservatory- Elvis Costello is known for playing the guitar with almost no regard for common sense.

Costello currently performs with The Imposters; his long time companions, drummer, Pete Thomas and pianist, Steve Nieve, bassist of twenty-three years standing, Davey Faragher and their special guest, Texas guitarist, Charlie Sexton.

  • Mind blowing concert

Wish i had better seats . But blondie and elvis were fantastic

  • amazing

    by j. f. on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 5 out of 5

Blondie was so awesome, she really knows how to amaze the audience, she is still incredible sounding! Elvis Costello is equally amazing, his voice and storytelling is spot on! What I would change is getting into the venue they should have separate lines for people with bags and coolers and people with nothing on them to enter, we got bogged down waiting for coolers to be checked

  • Elvis and Blondie

by Virginia on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 2 out of 5

Blondie was wonderful. At 74, she can still rock it out. First time at BB&T, venue is larger than PNC more vendors too. Bathrooms are clean and plenty of them. BUT honestly its a price gauging for the food/drinks and THE PARKING - $40. At least PNC, has several areas for free parking. Sorry but its ny last time at BBT

  • Classic artists

    by D. on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 4 out of 5

We enjoyed the Blondie/Elvis show. Debra Harry started out a bit tentative, it seemed, but relaxed and loosened up toward the end of her set to give a great show. As for Elvis Costello, I had never seen him live before. He is a much more accomplished guitar player that I had given him credit for. Unfortunately his sound mix was a bit muddy and I cold barely distinguish his lyrics. Elvis-fire your sound engineer.

  • The one song I wanted to hear was not played - Veronica.

by Roe on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 2 out of 5

I was extremely disappointed to not hear a song so heartfelt and rich with this real life struggle of the elderly and their children. "Veronica" epitomizes an important issue in our world: the quality of life of our seniors. It is painful for children to see their parents have confusion, dementia and Alzheimer's. "Veronica" makes us at least aware of this and that you are not alone.

  • Blondie

    by K. P. on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 4 out of 5

My wife, our son Connor and I truly enjoyed Blondie. Connor, who is 2, danced yelled and clapped for the band their whole show. Sharon and I were especially moved by the super rendition of "Dreaming" that closed the show. Debbie still has her fastball and Blondie is a band to see. No review for Elvis, since Connor was pretty restless after intermission and we were only able to stay for 3 songs. Crowd seemed to love him, though. If you can overlook what tends to be a slightly surly usher staff (concessions folks are generally awesome), BB&T is a great place to see a concert. Sound is always great and sight lines are excellent.

  • Elvis Costello is my secret boyfriend!

    by That_Grrrl on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 5 out of 5

What a beautiful experience! I’ve been waiting to see EC since I was a little girl in the 80’s and he did not disappoint! What a showman! What a voice! So fun to watch the videos projected on the screens! I’m literally in love. I mean, I’ve gotta be to buy a 35 dollar t-shirt, right?

  • Costello - the Professional

    by Wiggy158 on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 4 out of 5

Very well done set. Excellent musicians. All around good experience.

  • They are only getting better!

by Tati on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 5 out of 5

Blondie was strong! A great mix of the hits and some only known to true fans. I just about lost my mind when they performed Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.” And then, when they did the theme song to the James Bond classic “From Russia with Love” ( a little commentary re: our current prez) I was cheering. Elvis Costello was brilliant! His mastery of the guitar was spellbinding. I’m kinda new to his music, but I was very impressed. He and the Imposters were the icing on the cake. Great night in Camden!

  • Not the same Elvis Costello

by Mr. Debonair on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 2 out of 5

This was the 4th time seeing Elvis Costello live. By far the least enjoyable. Every other time, it was him and his 3 bandmates, getting on stage and playing the great song list of Elvis music. No glitz, no drama, just the great song played simply. Now, 2 new overbearing and unnecessary...i.e. intrusive... Singers; lots of glitz and not the anticipated simplicity. It's not that Elvis doesn't have personality...he obviously is a great speaker and loves his music, but it seemed like he thought simplicity and great songs was not good enough any more. Especially disappointing after a great opening with my favorite song of any band, Pump It Up... With the volume low on the backup singers. Gave me great optimism, only to find it dashed as the night went on

  • Best $20 show ever

by DMD on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 5 out of 5

Blonde played for over 2 hours, every hit and more! Elvis had a great groove to him that I’ve never seen in the past. FUN SHOW all around, beautiful evening with good friends too.

  • TiredOfThePOLITICS

by Frankie on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 4 out of 5

Performances were both good. Blondie was rocking along until they decided to do From Russia With Love, and had the gall to put the Presidential Seal on the big screen. A word to all you aging rockers: NONE OF US are kids anymore and the last thing I want to hear is your outdated, misinformed, left-wing political views when I'm at a concert to get away from it all for awhile. How great it would be to have some of you actually put yourselves in a hot seat and debate the issue one on one with people who have all the facts about the issues, instead of hiding behind your platform which is totally immune to any disagreement. Bottom line: since we still in America, I can choose to NOT buy any of your music ever again (the newer songs that I don't have were good, but not gonna but them!!) As for Elvis, one of my favorite musicians of all time, he still gives a great concert, and sad that even he dropped a little politics in as well, which again, I can totally do without.

  • Hijacked on Parking

by Mick on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 4 out of 5

Blondie/E. Costello were great! BB&T is a nice venue and well maintained. However, the sound was not good - very muddy. As a first-time BBT concert goer, the parking situation was horrible. Signs and direction were poor, and we got ROBBED by Live Nation for $40 - for less than premium parking. This put a damper on the night. Live Nation should be ashamed of treating people like this!

  • Blondie exacerbated the Ferry Fiasco

    by J. on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 3 out of 5

XPN Festival cut off direct access to BB&T causing excessive walking and had to leave early and miss part of the concert after Blondie started late and played too long. Elvis didn't go on until after 9:45P

  • Elvis, I love you, but fire your sound people.

    by d. r. on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 2 out of 5

WHOEVER IS MIXING FOR ELVIS NEEDS TO BE FIRED. IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE AT HARD ROCK IN ATLANTIC CITY LAST SUMMER. WE WERE IN 2 ND ROW FOR 2018 AND 9TH ROW AT BB&T AND THE SOUND IS AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. ELVIS... PLEASE SIT AT THE BOARD AND LISTEN! NOT FAIR TO YOUR FANS! WE WANT TO HEAR YOU, NOT JUST THE BASS AND NOISE!!

  • More Classics, Please

by LJKW on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 3 out of 5

Loved the energy of both performers, but my father and I were disappointed that Elvis didn't play more of his classics (Veronica, Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes, She, Oliver's Army). New music is great, but we were hoping to hear the music we listened to growing up.

  • Mixed Results

    by Bob S on 7/30/19BB&T Pavilion - CamdenRating: 2 out of 5

Blondie was great, and sound mix very clear. Then Elvis & co. came on and all was muddled --- worst sound mix I've heard in ages. Much too loud, and lyrics completely unintelligible. Many people walked out early in disgust, as did we after trying to hang in. Also, too many new songs, with fans wanting more of his hits. Very disappointing.

  • Great Concert!

by Chad282 on 7/27/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Elvis Costello was wonderful. He sang many of his old hits and also some songs that I had never heard before. Blondie did a nice job as the warm-up band. Debbie Harry can still bring it at the tender age of 74!

  • Blondie wins

by Getting Old on 7/26/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Blondie - coming back after a hiatus and with Chris Stein doing his best from a chair had everything to prove. Debbie Harry warmed up after a couple of numbers and proved that she, Chris and Clem Burke - the core of the original band - still have what it takes. Debbie got the crowd going and Clem still hammers those skins. They really got the crowd going. Elvis Costello - fine musician though he is - perhaps didn't have his best night. he played the expected numbers, the band followed along (though his drummer blew the beat a few times) and the crowd dutifully cheered. There was nothing WRONG with the set - but it lacked Blondie's energy.

  • Great show

by keithdanurse on 7/26/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Love the venue and the Yankee Lobster company is a must stop next door preshow. One of my favorite venues in New England. The show was excellent. Elvis killed it as always and Blondie was very good as well.
