Elvis Costello is a writer and part-time musician who made a number of records in the 20th Century, some of which are still remembered today.
He was born in London and raised there and in Liverpool.
Costello is the composer or lyricist of over six hundred published titles, including fifteen songs co-written with Paul McCartney and renowned collaborations with Allen Toussaint, the Brodsky Quartet and T Bone Burnett.
Costello's songwriting alliance with Burt Bacharach, began in 1995 with the song, "God Give Me Strength", which led to the 1998 album, "Painted From Memory", before their work was collected in 2023, on the four-album set, "The Songs Of Bacharach & Costello".
Elvis Costello songs have been recorded by Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Chet Baker, Dusty Springfield, Solomon Burke, George Jones, Linda Ronstadt and Bjork, while among the artists with whom he has written songs are Loretta Lynn, Carole King, Rosanne Cash and Kris Kristofferson and his wife, Diana Krall.
Working purely as a lyricist, Costello has provided words for the music of Billy Strayhorn, Oscar Peterson and for twelve Charles Mingus compositions and as a composer, set twelve unpublished lyrics by Bob Dylan.
2024 will see the opening of "A Face In The Crowd", Sarah Ruhl's stage adaptation of the Budd Schulberg story for which Elvis Costello composed the songs.
"A Face In The Crowd" will open at the Young Vic in London on INSERT DATE, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and produced by Adam Kenwright.
Elvis Costello is the author of "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink", a more than six-hundred page memoir which has been translated into six languages. He has received a range of awards over his 45 year old career of which the induction into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is probably the most significant.
Although he holds two honorary doctorates in music - one from the University of Liverpool and another from the New England Conservatory- Elvis Costello is known for playing the guitar with almost no regard for common sense.
Costello currently performs with The Imposters; his long time companions, drummer, Pete Thomas and pianist, Steve Nieve, bassist of twenty-three years standing, Davey Faragher and their special guest, Texas guitarist, Charlie Sexton.

Elvis put on a great show singing the favorites over the years. He was everything you would hoped he would be. He rocked. The band rocked. The backup singers rocked. My only complaint, and it’s a big one was that the sound engineer did a lousy job. The sound was atrocious. The sound was by far better for the Blondie show.
Blondie sounded and looked great touched on a bit of everything , while not the same band I saw two years ago, still very solid . Elvis and and band got as much history in as possible and played as much as they could truly a great performance by all
Blondie - sounded good, great show. She had great pitch and was animated on stage. She looked great too. Hard to believe she is in her 70's. She's clearly made it a priority to take care of herself. Elvis - great set list, horrible sound - I grew up loving his songs. If the sound is venue provided then they need to take a long hard look at their problem. Same thing happened to me at Styx last year. Headliner too loud, distorted and mixed badly. Will no longer attend concerts at this venue until I read that the problem has been addressed. Which is a shame as it is a nice setting. Elvis sounded like he struggled to hear himself and sang out of pitch 80% of the time. Perhaps it was because of the tones of the bass and drums which were earsplitting. His guitar was a joke in the mix and he may as well have been playing air guitar. He's clearly not made it a priority to not take care of himself physically as he struggled through the set.
Over 40 years later Blondie is still as amazing as ever. Debbie Harry is 74 years old and still entertains the crowd and gets everyone hyped up. I’m so glad I got to see this iconic band in my lifetime, it’s an experience I won’t forget.
Could not hear Debbie Harry vocals and Elvis Costello was literally singing in another key from the band in 80% of the songs. Something must have been off with ear piece and monitor because I’ve seen both acts before and this wasn’t the case.
Such a fun evening in a great venue. The reason for 3 stars is that the sound system was not great. Very muffled and so the quality of music was not what it should have been. Despite that, we had a great time.
Blonde was great. For 74 Years old, she can still bring it!!! I look forward to Elvis Costello every time he is in the area. This show was a little disappointing; trouble hearing the vocals & distorted, song selection was rather mellow, majority of the crowd was sitting for 80% of the show, many fans had departed before 10:00 PM.
I was a bit surprised at the start of the Blondie show...I thought she seemed old, lackluster, and her voice lacked the same strength to belt out a song. By the end, she livened up and was doing a bit better. BUT - I really went to see Elvis Costello - and his show was fantastic. He has a great sense of humor, and played with some great musicians. The background singers had amazing voices, and maybe could have been featured a bit more. The songs he played were mostly old favorites, with some new songs mixed in. Only song I really missed was "The Angels Want to Wear My Red Shoes".
This was a great pairing of two legendary bands and they both delivered.
Blondie and Elvis Costello didn't disappoint! Two of my all time favorites and a great venue at Mohegan Sun. They played their classics which also was awesome.
Great show. Elvis was hard to hear as the drums and base were very loud and drowned out his voice at times. The venue was ok. The stadium seating was pretty shaking and not the most comfortable.
My 5th EC show and he did'nt dissapoint.Reaching back for many early chestnuts like I don't wanna go to Chelsea and Mystery dance while the Imposters were their mighty selfs. Blondie also put on a good show ,with Debbie in good voice and Clem putting on a hell of a demonstration on skins.
Both bands made the entire arena feel as they were in the front row. The sound, everything was just great!!!!
Both artists performed about an hour plus each, 2.5 hours of music! Can’t beat that!
I bought pre-sale tickets via the Elvis Costello fan website which were located stage right (section 118). The sound quality was abysmal. We suffered through Blondie (could never understand anything that Deborah Harry said) but could barely hear her singing above the drums. We thought we'd see if Elvis's setup was any better, but it wasn't. We stayed for his first three numbers. Could barely hear him singing and couldn't understand anything he said into the mic. If the Mohegan Sun is going to sell tickets on the sides, they'll have to figure out a way to improve the sound. Most of our section bailed out even before we did.
Blondie put on a good show and my wife and I enjoyed it. I was really looking forward to seeing Elvis. As soon as they started playing it was way louder than blondie's show, so much so that it was drowning out Elvis's voice. Don't get me wrong I like loud music but it was mixed for an outdoor arena or something. My wife and I noticed a lot of people got up and left after a few songs. There were a lot of empty seats where before the arena was packed. We stayed to the end but wished I had brought my ear plugs. Elvis was great though, really into it with lots of energy!!
I've been going to elvis shows since 1978 when he first hit the scene. Unfortunately, this show at Mohegan Sun lacked the usual uniqueness and excitement of previous Elvis performances. The volume was too loud making the vocals hard to decipher and the selection of songs could have been better. For a guy who has written volumes of good songs one would think we would hear some of the less trite and often repetitious standbys, e.g. Alison, Pump it Up. Peace, Love, Understanding, Clubland, etc. He is the 'beloved entertainer' but I think he may be running out of gas. BTW, Blondie played too long for a warm-up act.
Really amazing to have both bands delivering top notch performances! Set lists were great, crowd was rocking! So glad to have seen legendary artists still bringing it!!!
Blondie put on an excellent show. Only complaint is they didn’t do Hangin’ on the telephone. Elvis was one of the worst shows because it was both too loud and mixed very poorly. Left after an hour. I’m stunned how two acts in the same show and venue could have such differences in sound quality.
