Elvis Costello is a writer and part-time musician who made a number of records in the 20th Century, some of which are still remembered today.
He was born in London and raised there and in Liverpool.
Costello is the composer or lyricist of over six hundred published titles, including fifteen songs co-written with Paul McCartney and renowned collaborations with Allen Toussaint, the Brodsky Quartet and T Bone Burnett.
Costello's songwriting alliance with Burt Bacharach, began in 1995 with the song, "God Give Me Strength", which led to the 1998 album, "Painted From Memory", before their work was collected in 2023, on the four-album set, "The Songs Of Bacharach & Costello".
Elvis Costello songs have been recorded by Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Chet Baker, Dusty Springfield, Solomon Burke, George Jones, Linda Ronstadt and Bjork, while among the artists with whom he has written songs are Loretta Lynn, Carole King, Rosanne Cash and Kris Kristofferson and his wife, Diana Krall.
Working purely as a lyricist, Costello has provided words for the music of Billy Strayhorn, Oscar Peterson and for twelve Charles Mingus compositions and as a composer, set twelve unpublished lyrics by Bob Dylan.
2024 will see the opening of "A Face In The Crowd", Sarah Ruhl's stage adaptation of the Budd Schulberg story for which Elvis Costello composed the songs.
"A Face In The Crowd" will open at the Young Vic in London on INSERT DATE, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and produced by Adam Kenwright.
Elvis Costello is the author of "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink", a more than six-hundred page memoir which has been translated into six languages. He has received a range of awards over his 45 year old career of which the induction into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is probably the most significant.
Although he holds two honorary doctorates in music - one from the University of Liverpool and another from the New England Conservatory- Elvis Costello is known for playing the guitar with almost no regard for common sense.
Costello currently performs with The Imposters; his long time companions, drummer, Pete Thomas and pianist, Steve Nieve, bassist of twenty-three years standing, Davey Faragher and their special guest, Texas guitarist, Charlie Sexton.
Just absolutely amazing. He sang all of his hits. Just such an amazing talented artist.
I want to be Blondie when I am in my 70's she was my WOW of the night she so rocked it and put on a great show! Elvis as always was amazing he is just so talented and his band so rocked it! great night of music in a great venue love Five Points Amp! Thank you for being here!
Blondie and Elvis were great! They played all of my favorites. Only negative was the background visuals distracted from the music,
The FivePoint amphitheater is in a good location, nice views of the hills. Elvis Costello was great! A skilled musician who put on a tight show. I didn't know most of the songs, and enjoyed it immensely anyway. He deserves 5 stars. Blondie? Well, let's just say I wouldn't see her again if it was free, and she was performing across the street from my house, and leave it at that.
I thought Elvis was awesome! He can still hit the high notes and still has the cool swagger about him. And Blondie was a huge surprise! Absolutely great!
Putting Blondie on the bill with Elvis Costello was genius. Two full sets from the 80s icons was really really good. Both acts delivered string performances although Blondie’s was more retro than Elvis’s. Show was worth every penny spent. The venue is new and a WIP but seating was great.
Great to see Blondie perform again! Saw her when I was 15 and this time was 42 years later! Elvis never disappoints. His voice doesn’t age either! We just love him!
It’s seems that elvis’ voice isn’t what it used to be. He used backup singers to hit high notes but it’s not the same as 1978. Good selection of songs. Blonde was excellent. She stole the show. Many people left in the middle of Elvis. Good selection of songs and good stage presence.
Have a fantastic time both groups were tight, sounded great, & put out lots of wonderful energy .
Elvis put on a great, entertaining show. And I was willing to give props to Blondie, esp. since the last two times I saw them were less than ideal performances. And then - Ms. Harry had to toss out her obligatory "Orange Man Bad" dumbass dig with her rendition of "From Russia With Love". Tiresome and infantile. Time to retire, Debbie.
I sat 5th row exactly center, the sound at this location was poor as the drums were blowing out everything else. Being that close I dont think I was getting any of the sound from the PA since the speakers were 50 feet to the right and left of my seat like this " . " ! Blondie was great and Elvis was great both played a good number of favorites (think best of) and you will regret missing this show.
Pump it up!! was a great choice for the opening of the show last Thursday. Elvis & the imposters sounded great with lots of energy thru out the show. I really enjoyed the high energy sexy backup singers that put on their own show! Blondie was good as the opening act.
This was a great double bill featuring Blondie and Elvis Costello. My 15th time seeing Elvis Costello with a lot more hits than misses. He played a good mix of old and new and brought a personal touch to the entire endeavor. The venue was so-so; not too crazy about walking through smoke-polluted casinos. But Elvis and Blondie both made it worth the effort.
Elvis is and was great but the sound was pretty bad. I wouldn't see another show at Pechanga.
Great Concert!!! Elvis still has a great voice and can still rock with the best of them. Blondie was great too. Well worth the price of admission.
Great venue at Pechanga Casino! Very small, great seats! Impressed with Blondie! Played for 90 min. He voice still good after all these years! Elvis? Wow! Great band, great choice of songs. He rocked for 90 min also! A must see!!!
I had the time of my life! I was honestly thinking with them being past their prime that their performances would be lacking but i was so wrong. They exceeded my expectations and i was so glad to have been able to see blondie live.
I was surprised how good the sound system was. The main seating could have used some risers, it was a little hard to see over so many heads. Blondie was surprisingly better than Elvis and he was great.
Blondie was incredible! Elvis needs to play crowd favorites. Stuck to his tried and true
Paid $89 and stayed for 2 songs of Costello but Blondie made up for it. Love Blondie. Thank god Pump it Up was the first Costello song!
