Great acts, logistics need work
by theatregirl1122 on 10/7/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New YorkOnce Elsie Fest got to the Broadway stars, it was a wonderful concert! I loved Laura Osnes, Lea Solonga, Darren Criss, Leslie Odom Jr, and Aaron Tveit. Starkid gave an interesting performance if you're a star kid fan, but it felt too niche for the event for me. If you don't know who they are, the music doesn't make sense out of context. Seth Rudesky was a TOTAL waste of time and should have been replaced with almost ANYTHING else. Any singer who has ever been on Broadway could have gone in that slot and been exciting. As far as the logistics, this wasn't a true festival. It was really a concert with a lot of acts because there was only one stage. One of the biggest problems was that all of the sound came from the direction of the stage, so if you didn't want to brave the crowds, you weren't going to be able to hear. There were no video screens, so the GA really couldn't see anything at all. The food truck situation was a complete disaster. There were only three real food trucks and a hot dog cart. Two of the three food trucks had lines that lasted for hours, and since you couldn't hear anything if you weren't pushing your way towards the stage, you had to completely miss multiple acts to get any food. With an event where doors opened at 1pm that didn't end until 9pm and that didn't allow outside food, it was almost impossible not to eat during that time, if you could get food. My friend stood in line for three hours (missing Seth Rudesky, Laura Osnes, and Aaron Tveit) and then, when she finally got to the front of the line, the food truck broke down and she was told "sorry guys". No one attempted to do anything to fix the situation. The venue itself was really a problem. It's long doesn't really leave enough room for food trucks. Really this event should move to a different venue, get a lot more food, give more consideration to sound and visuals, and possibly have a secondary stage with less famous broadway actors/groups in between sets so that there isn't so much down time. I'd recommend it, but it needs a lot of work.
