    Great acts, logistics need work

by theatregirl1122 on 10/7/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

Once Elsie Fest got to the Broadway stars, it was a wonderful concert! I loved Laura Osnes, Lea Solonga, Darren Criss, Leslie Odom Jr, and Aaron Tveit. Starkid gave an interesting performance if you're a star kid fan, but it felt too niche for the event for me. If you don't know who they are, the music doesn't make sense out of context. Seth Rudesky was a TOTAL waste of time and should have been replaced with almost ANYTHING else. Any singer who has ever been on Broadway could have gone in that slot and been exciting. As far as the logistics, this wasn't a true festival. It was really a concert with a lot of acts because there was only one stage. One of the biggest problems was that all of the sound came from the direction of the stage, so if you didn't want to brave the crowds, you weren't going to be able to hear. There were no video screens, so the GA really couldn't see anything at all. The food truck situation was a complete disaster. There were only three real food trucks and a hot dog cart. Two of the three food trucks had lines that lasted for hours, and since you couldn't hear anything if you weren't pushing your way towards the stage, you had to completely miss multiple acts to get any food. With an event where doors opened at 1pm that didn't end until 9pm and that didn't allow outside food, it was almost impossible not to eat during that time, if you could get food. My friend stood in line for three hours (missing Seth Rudesky, Laura Osnes, and Aaron Tveit) and then, when she finally got to the front of the line, the food truck broke down and she was told "sorry guys". No one attempted to do anything to fix the situation. The venue itself was really a problem. It's long doesn't really leave enough room for food trucks. Really this event should move to a different venue, get a lot more food, give more consideration to sound and visuals, and possibly have a secondary stage with less famous broadway actors/groups in between sets so that there isn't so much down time. I'd recommend it, but it needs a lot of work.

    ELSIEFEST ROCKED!!

by GabbiBwayGleek96 on 10/1/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

This was absolutely the best day I have had in FOREVER!! Darren Criss did absolutely the most AMAZING job at coming up with and executing his plan for a "Broadway Coachella" The line-up was PHENOMENAL!! It really gave us theatre nerds a place where we could all hang out and spend time "fangirling" over our faves!! I was there from 2-9 and it felt like it passed by in the blink of an eye!! I just didn't want it to end!! I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT until Elsie Fest 2016, and every single one after that!!

    A Magical Experience!

by Emma8D on 10/1/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

Absolutely loved every minute of this event! It was well organized and not overwhelming. The venue was very clean with plenty of food choices (would suggest a few more food options next year.) The acts were all wonderful and very entertaining and seemed to really be enjoying themselves. I enjoyed the casual feel and lack of ego between acts as sometimes artists would jump into other artist's sets for a surprise. A true treat and perfect night for musical theater lovers.

    Amazing!

by Manu123 on 10/1/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

I had the best time ever at Elsie Fest! It was an unforgettable experience, with a lot of great people. The Line up and the songs they song were from the start till the end absolutely phenomenal. The location was also beautiful with a few to New York and the Hudson River behind. It was definitely a highlight of my first stay in New York! So lots of love and greetings from Germany!! I had an awesome time in NYC thanks for being part of what made my trip so special! For everyone having the possibility to go to the next Elsie Fest, do it! You definitely won't regret it.

    Elsiefest!! Broadway fun!

by mompavs on 10/1/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

The show itself was wonderful! So many talented and amazing people. But there were a few things that I think could have improved the experience, and I hope will be considered for next year. First and foremost SCREENS!! My daughter and sister and I were in the GA section, and were fairly close to the front of the section, so we could almost see the action, but with tall people in front of us, it was not always easy to see. Also, because we had good positioning, we were not able to move from there the entire day, so stood in one position for 7 hours. That meant no ability to go to the bathroom, get a drink or food, or enjoy and of the other activities on the pier. If there had been screens up throughout the venue, we would have been free to move around, knowing that we would still be able to see what was going on. It would also be nice to bring in your own food. Maybe skip the coolers, but bring in food. Again, since we were smushed in up front, with no food, we had nothing to eat or drink the entire day. It made for a long day. But overall, it was a great show. I think with these minor tweaks, I think it could really be AMAZING!

    Year 1 of MANY!!!

by MariaES on 10/1/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

I took my best friend for his birthday because Aaron and Lea are his 2 favorite Broadway people. We were so excited to go and there was no disappointment! Every act was better than the one before and when we thought it couldn't get any better, Darren Criss came on last and we were blown away by his and his special guest stars' ability to excite us!!! The whole day was a blast and we will be attending for years and years to come :) Something to consider for future years: - a jumbo tron so everyone can see the stage no matter where they are! - more food trucks because by 5:30 the majority of food items were gone

    Amazing New NYC Festival!!

by Azappy on 10/1/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

Beautiful day/evening spent on Pier 97 in Midtown Manhattan listening to Broadways best perform a mix of music! Fabulous, unique event. I hope its a new tradition that is here to stay. Needed more food. Would be great if the VIP seats included access into some of the VIP beer gardens which seemed quite empty for the most part.

    Elsie forever!

by CriscoD on 9/30/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

Hey Darren, can you PLEASE make this happen forever? I had the best time. The acts were amazing, and my friends and I had a wonderful time! The one downside? Not enough food trucks. Ran out of food at like 4 PM....LOL

Amazing performances by all! Can't wait for next year!

Agree with others that those "surprise" guest appearances never materialized. Also some chairs in the back would be helpful, plus more food trucks. One truck ran out of food. But the performances were spot on. Weather cooperated beautifully and they ran things pretty smoothly.

Elsie fest was out of this world!!

by Lola358 on 9/30/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

I didn't really know what to expect from Elsie fest. It was the first to ever happen, and I was hoping everything would run smoothly and that I would enjoy the acts. And what I got from this event was next level. The crowd was so welcoming and the acts were phenomenal. Elsie fest ran so smoothly and efficiently that no one would have guessed this was its first year. The acts were amazing and really cared about the fans of Broadway. I can't stress enough how much I loved this event.

Not what I expected at all

by EveryWordISay on 9/30/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

Really not great. The venue was not laid out very well and the food truck selection was terrible, in addition to not having enough trucks to handle the amount of people. The lines were over half an hour to get food. The fact that we had to wait 30+ minutes between artists when there was no set up necessary for any of them was absurd. The highlight of the day was Seth Rudetsky, which was not at all what I expected. He was WONDERFUL and hilarious and really broke up what was otherwise a pretty boring day. We ended up leaving early because we just couldn't stand there anymore. Very disappointed with the inaugural Elsie Fest.

ElsieFest was an amazing dream come true!

by DebDuck49 on 9/30/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

A wonderful marriage of musical theatre and rock/ pop music. I was lucky to have a seat in the VIP area, but also jealous of the folk in GA who were chilling out, listening, singing along and enjoying the authentic atmosphere of a music festival. The stars of the show shone brightly, each person bringing their own take on songs of various gendre. Lea Salonga opened and ended her set with the most beautiful song from her new show Allegiance. Aaron Tevit wowed us all with his rendition of Taylor Swifts, we are never, ever getting back together. I loved how the singers seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere as much as we were, rejoicing in our replies. Darren Criss gave an amazing perfomance including a tear jerking, sexy, rendition of I Dreamed a Dream, and ending with in furious punk version of Cabaret. Watch out because next year the VIP tickets will sell out in a matter of minutes, I'm just hoping that I will be able to get lucky enough to get one again!

Broadway stars shine in Elsie Fest

by Natwich on 9/30/15JBL Live at Pier 97 - New York

Elsie Fest was a great time. So many Broadway fans gathered in one place, everyone was really fun! Seeing Lea Salonga has been a dream of mine, and her performance moved me to tears! The other performers, like Starkid, Aaron Tveit,Leslie Odom Jr. and Darren Criss were amazing- although I missed Seth Rudetsky and Laura Osnes because of the huge lines for food. There was not enough vendors, but they did try to remedy the situation by bring in a couple of hot dog vendors off the street. There were plenty of porta potty's, and they were very clean. The music could not quite reach me when I was in line for food. Next year there should be a few tv monitors for the people further away from the stage. The sound just could not reach. The website did not give me a 'meet and greet' option when I bought my VIP tickets, so I was disappointed when I arrived and saw other people with wristbands that were offered at a different time. Overall, it was wonderful and I would go again next year.
