El Monstero â a Tribute To Pink Floyd in Concert
Many tribute bands are dedicated to the music and visuals of Pink Floyd, but few are as ambitious as El Monstero â a Tribute to Pink Floyd. Based in St. Louis, the troupe pairs an arena-caliber light and video show with meticulous attention to detail: They once borrowed the actual inflatable pig owned by Pink Floyd, and have also been known to hire a helicopter to fly over the crowd to provide the proper sound effects for the music. Their onstage presence certainly earns them the tag "The Definitive U.S. Pink Floyd Tribute Experience," as the band's arresting musicianship captures the evocative emotional arcs of the David Gilmour and Roger Waters era of Pink Floyd.
Near the end of the year, the group books an annual run of shows at popular indoor St. Louis venue the Pageant, a 2,300-capacity space that's adjacent to the Delmar Loop. They also regularly do out-of-town gigs in Springfield and Kansas City, and they've collaborated live with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra on bigger concerts that add majestic flourishes to Pink Floyd's music. In recent years, El Monstero has also branched out for summer shows at the St. Louisâarea outdoor venue the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.
El Monstero â a Tribute To Pink Floyd Background
It's tough to beat the pedigree of the musicians in El Monstero. The group was founded by members of the St. Louis rock band Stir, who decided to do a covers show around Thanksgiving 1999 that drew 900 people. From there, El Monstero continued to play gigs around the holidays, even as their personnel evolved: Stir bassist Kevin Gagnepain stayed aboard and was joined by members of nationally signed bands the Urge (drummer John Pessoni, keyboardist Bill Reiter) and Kingofthehill (vocalist/guitarist Jimmy Griffin) â all of whom had continued to hone their craft in other St. Louis bands â as well as a group of talented local instrumentalists, including vocalist/guitarist Mark Thomas Quinn, and backing singers. Together, El Monstero is a testament to the power of Pink Floyd, and to the power of community.

I go to El Monstero every year but this year I wasen't happy about the pig. Normally theres a big balloon like pig and it wasen't the same with what they had. As far as the venue always good, just wish drinks weren't so expensive.
This tribute band is amazing! These gentlemen and ladies (both vocally and physically) go above and beyond to put on a spectacular show. Any fan of Pink Floyd shouldnât miss this experience! Best band ever and they all look like they are having so much fun entertaining us.
Show was amazing, we go every summer to this show. My 16 year old, this was his first time and he loved it !!!
This was my first time seeing El Monstero & I absolutely loved it!! Everything about the show was awesome!! I will definitely be at more shows!
As always, an amazing show. Still smiling đ the band is loved by everyone, the young and not so young
We were there last year, this year and will always go. We missed the winter concert, but hopefuly we will make it this time.
El Monstero seems to get a little better every time I see them, and thatâs hard to do when they put on such a good show. I have never been disappointed and will continue to enjoy this local treasure as long as theyâre performing.
Good time! Lawn seats are the way to go. Great experience every time
I was impressed with the quality of the concert. The sign language interpreters did an outstanding work!!!!
Took my 21 yr old son who is a big Pink Floyd fan, surprised him with tickets for me and him. We were both blown away with El Monstero. These guys have a dedicated following for a reason, their shows are epic; they had a bigger crowd at their show then The Who that I saw at the same venue. This was their Summer Show at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater, can't wait until their Christmas Shows at the Pagent. As for the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater as a venue, whether you are in the front row or grab a spot on the Grass the show great; not a bad seat in the house.
Best concert ever!!! Don F of the Eagles was the opening act, making it doubly good. Throw in the helicopter to open the main show. Canât wait for tickets to go on sale for the shows at the Pageant.
If you closed your eyes you did not know that was not original Floyd! The only only disappointment was no lasers and I waited all night for Comfortably Numb and it was not spot onâŠthey had a tech issue but got through it like champs and the crowd supported them through it! Oh and I was sober (designated DD) next time I will be Comfortably Numb for it! GO SEE THEM and pay a bit more for the front seatsâŠ.glad I did!
A great experience! Will definitely be back! Weather was perfect and the staff was first rate.
Itâs was like Pink Floyd was on stage performing! The show was fantastic with a lot of surprises.
This band really put on a show. The only somewhat strange thing or just unexpected would be the strippers/dancers on the poles. I think it made a lot of people uncomfortable, especially the wives in the crowd lol the band was overly terrific, and they covered Pink Floyd extremely well.
El Monstero brought a fantastic tribute to pink floyd, along with amazing weather for the venue on 7/8/23. I continue to be awed by their perfection. There is NO band that does this tribute on par with El Monstero
After being in St. Louis for over 25 years, I finally got to see El Monstero, and boy, do I regret having never gone earlier. I was absolutely blown away! I was always afraid that no Pink Floyd cover band could live up to my expectations. Man, was I surprised. They play live Pink Floyd better than Pink Floyd plays Pink Floyd. They are that good! . Even more amazing, we were sitting last row, on aisle, between Right and Right Center (at Hollywood Amphitheater) and the sound was still amazing. At a previous concert, of another band, I noticed the sound was not good sitting off center so I was a bit worried. However, El Monstero did not disappoint. I'm shocked they don't tour because they are so f'in good. I will be a repeat attendee for sure now!
I wish elmonstero would start at dark. Makes no sense for the helicopter if it doesn't choreograph with that part of the song.
I enjoy this concert. It is the closest I will get to a Pink Floyd show.
