El Monstero – a Tribute To Pink Floyd in Concert

Many tribute bands are dedicated to the music and visuals of Pink Floyd, but few are as ambitious as El Monstero – a Tribute to Pink Floyd. Based in St. Louis, the troupe pairs an arena-caliber light and video show with meticulous attention to detail: They once borrowed the actual inflatable pig owned by Pink Floyd, and have also been known to hire a helicopter to fly over the crowd to provide the proper sound effects for the music. Their onstage presence certainly earns them the tag "The Definitive U.S. Pink Floyd Tribute Experience," as the band's arresting musicianship captures the evocative emotional arcs of the David Gilmour and Roger Waters era of Pink Floyd.

Near the end of the year, the group books an annual run of shows at popular indoor St. Louis venue the Pageant, a 2,300-capacity space that's adjacent to the Delmar Loop. They also regularly do out-of-town gigs in Springfield and Kansas City, and they've collaborated live with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra on bigger concerts that add majestic flourishes to Pink Floyd's music. In recent years, El Monstero has also branched out for summer shows at the St. Louis–area outdoor venue the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

El Monstero – a Tribute To Pink Floyd Background

It's tough to beat the pedigree of the musicians in El Monstero. The group was founded by members of the St. Louis rock band Stir, who decided to do a covers show around Thanksgiving 1999 that drew 900 people. From there, El Monstero continued to play gigs around the holidays, even as their personnel evolved: Stir bassist Kevin Gagnepain stayed aboard and was joined by members of nationally signed bands the Urge (drummer John Pessoni, keyboardist Bill Reiter) and Kingofthehill (vocalist/guitarist Jimmy Griffin) — all of whom had continued to hone their craft in other St. Louis bands — as well as a group of talented local instrumentalists, including vocalist/guitarist Mark Thomas Quinn, and backing singers. Together, El Monstero is a testament to the power of Pink Floyd, and to the power of community.

What a beautiful night and a fantastic show. El Monstero doesn't disappoint and Blue Oyster Cult was a BLAST!!! Although I didn't spring for closer seats this time (lawn seats were a TREAT in this weather), my group all enjoyed the show and can't WAIT to see them again.

  • Good music, bad venue operation

by Usmc mike on 8/7/25Hollywood Casino Amphitheater - Maryland HeightsRating: 4 out of 5

Blue Oyster cult and ElMonstero music was as anticipated, although ElMonstero use of stage porn is distasteful. We have been to Hollywood Amplitheater many many times, but entering the venue this time was so disorganized and slow that it makes me not want to return. The line at the gate was all the way back to the furthest part of the parking lot. My wife who is partially disabled with back issues along with other disabled people still had to wait about 45 minutes in line to get in.

  • Beautiful night. Great concert

Once again El Monstero knocked it out of the park (amphitheater)

  • Fantastic show and great music!

Took our whole family. I'm 59 and my husband is in his 60's, and we took our 31 year old daughter and her friend. We caravaned over with about three other carloads of friends to the concert. My husband hadn't been to a concert in 30 years and he LOVED IT! We all had a really great time! The weather was PERFECT.

Just so much better than I could have ever imagined!

  • Heard the hype and experienced why!

by Phil H on 8/6/25Hollywood Casino Amphitheater - Maryland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

I had the opportunity to see Pink Floyd in concert, July 12, 1994 at Soldier Field in Chicago, so some thoughts would how did they compare. I would say to anyone that wants to get a feel what it was like to see Pink Floyd, they do a great job. These musicians take their craft serious and preformed songs without any mistakes that I could notice. The theatrical production and costumes really adds to the experience and makes it an enjoyable show. I can definitely say that this will be the first of many shows that I will see of them. The only complaint I have with the show has nothing to do with bands performance, but the fact that I was in line at the gate 35 minutes before the show start time and by time I made it to my seat, I only seen 2 1/2 songs from the opening act “Blue Oyster Cult”.

  • ElMo Rocks It, As Always!

by Vitha on 8/5/25Hollywood Casino Amphitheater - Maryland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

El Monstero rocked the Hollywood Casino Amp on August 2, 2025. Their set was, as always, perfectly executed and brilliantly performed. No finer Pink Floyd cover band will ever rock this earth... in fact, the T-shirts proclaiming "Pink Floyd, El Monstero's best cover band!"said it all. The addition of Blue Oyster Cult as an opening band was an awesome move designed to get the audience's juices flowing, and they did not disappoint. The only negative thing I can say about this night was that the venue let down the fans in multiple ways-- parking issues, extremely long wait times and lines to enter the venue, convoluted security measures at every turn, hugely overpriced drinks (over $25 each in many cases), and another nightmare getting out of the venue. Many fans missed at least half of BOC's opening show in spite of arriving an hour or more before the show, stuck in lines that went nowhere. But one and all, we applaud the members of ElMo for putting on another amazing show. Bring on Christmastime!

  • El Monstero is Great; Serious Delays at Venue Entrance

by Vicki on 8/5/25Hollywood Casino Amphitheater - Maryland HeightsRating: 3 out of 5

I have happily been to Hollywood Amphitheatre many many times in the past 10 years. Last Saturday's El Monster/Blue Oyster Cult concert was horrible, not due to the bands who were excellent, but due to the screw-up with getting people into the venue itself. I have no idea what happened and there were no apologies from anyone. I was not happy at having to pay to park, especially since the lot still has many potholes. Hopefully they can repave it all during the off season, Parking opened at 5:30, doors at 6:30 and concert at 7:30. We arrived at 5:35 and parked. There was a mob of people waiting at the gate, so we sat in the car, waiting for them to clear out when the gates opened. I had someone with me who has serious difficulties standing for long and we had seats so we waited until 7pm, assuming things would clear up. The line at 7pm was even longer than when we first arrived. There was no ADA entrance so all those with canes, walkers and wheelchairs were in the same line as the regular folk. I asked an employee about an ADA line and she said there was none and to get to the end of the line with the others. It took us 45minutes to get into the gate. By then the first band had already been playing for 15 minutes. My friend was exhausted from standing so long. it was horrible. We went straight to our seats and did not buy t-shirts or drinks or food (which we normally do) because we were so angry. The actual concert was wonderful at always. I give El Monstero 10 stars and Hollywood Amphitheater 1 star.

the band is great and i have been going to their Xmas shows for years but the venue sucked this year i got in line at 645 pm to see the show that started at 730 the entrance was a joke trying to get thru to scan crazy i missed 4 songs of opening band and i feel sorry for people behind me who probably missed opening band completely the venue should have started the band later if they could not handle the problem

  • Amazing Show

by Tjayjay50 on 8/5/25Hollywood Casino Amphitheater - Maryland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

El Monstero was truly a special birthday treat for me and my husband. Unfortunately, we missed the opening act, Blue Oyster Cult, due to very long lines. We waited an hour to get into the venue, which we have never experienced in the past at this venue. Drink prices were unreal. I've been to quite a few concerts and shows, NEVER paid $20 for a can of beer. All in all though, the concert was amazing!
