El Monstero – a Tribute To Pink Floyd in Concert

Many tribute bands are dedicated to the music and visuals of Pink Floyd, but few are as ambitious as El Monstero – a Tribute to Pink Floyd. Based in St. Louis, the troupe pairs an arena-caliber light and video show with meticulous attention to detail: They once borrowed the actual inflatable pig owned by Pink Floyd, and have also been known to hire a helicopter to fly over the crowd to provide the proper sound effects for the music. Their onstage presence certainly earns them the tag "The Definitive U.S. Pink Floyd Tribute Experience," as the band's arresting musicianship captures the evocative emotional arcs of the David Gilmour and Roger Waters era of Pink Floyd.

Near the end of the year, the group books an annual run of shows at popular indoor St. Louis venue the Pageant, a 2,300-capacity space that's adjacent to the Delmar Loop. They also regularly do out-of-town gigs in Springfield and Kansas City, and they've collaborated live with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra on bigger concerts that add majestic flourishes to Pink Floyd's music. In recent years, El Monstero has also branched out for summer shows at the St. Louis–area outdoor venue the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

El Monstero – a Tribute To Pink Floyd Background

It's tough to beat the pedigree of the musicians in El Monstero. The group was founded by members of the St. Louis rock band Stir, who decided to do a covers show around Thanksgiving 1999 that drew 900 people. From there, El Monstero continued to play gigs around the holidays, even as their personnel evolved: Stir bassist Kevin Gagnepain stayed aboard and was joined by members of nationally signed bands the Urge (drummer John Pessoni, keyboardist Bill Reiter) and Kingofthehill (vocalist/guitarist Jimmy Griffin) — all of whom had continued to hone their craft in other St. Louis bands — as well as a group of talented local instrumentalists, including vocalist/guitarist Mark Thomas Quinn, and backing singers. Together, El Monstero is a testament to the power of Pink Floyd, and to the power of community.

SO much more than a concert!!

by vitha on 1/1/24The Pageant - St Louis

When you tell someone you're seeing an El Monstero concert, there is just no way to convey just how incorrect that is. To say you're going to see one of the best shows you will see in your lifetime is a lot more accurate. If you're a Pink Floyd fan and haven't seen ElMo multiple times, you have missed out on so much!! Not just an amazing band with lasers and strobes, but a full on, nearly 4-hour performance with several different acrobatic acts, pole dancers, pyrotechnics, guest singers and performers, and every other thing you can possibly imagine. Every night is different and every single time will blow you away and exceed your expectations times 100! Not just a cover band performing greatest hits, they will also rock out to archival songs from the 60s and deep cuts that you may never have heard and every second will be amazing. I absolutely cannot wait for the next show. I have seen them in 4 different venues and multiple times in several of them, and not once did they not give everything they had for every minute of the show. If you're lucky enough to score tickets, run, don't walk to the next performance!! We're already excited for 2024!

    BEST EVER

by Craig on 1/1/24The Pageant - St Louis

My son and I have attended several Monstero shows. This one was the best. Playing Dark Side in its entirety was perfect! And being true to the original sound really capped it off. As a quick aside, a few years ago there was a clown Elvis or whatever. Please, please, please, don’t ever bring him back. I love the local talent, want to see more, just not him.

El Monstero has a new fan!

by JACKANDMASONSMOM on 12/30/23The Pageant - St Louis

My husband had seen El Monstero in concert last year and bought tickets for us to see them on 12/27. I was not sure what to expect and can say that while I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan (I like their music but I'm not an avid listener) and I can say without a doubt that El Monstero is the consummate PF cover band! What amazing sound! What amazing visual effects and what a first class performance all the way around!

    Great as always

by Kjhicks on 12/30/23The Pageant - St Louis

The show was great - the music was a good mix of our favorites. Even our grown kids who don't know the songs enjoyed the show. The dancers and roaming musicians were so fun! Maybe I'm just getting old, but it seemed louder, maybe too loud, this year. The staff and accomodations at The Pageant were friendly and easy to navigate. Even in the crowd I never had to wait to get a drink at the bar. Parking was a breeze in the metro lot.

    Seating at The Pageant

by DanaS on 12/26/23The Pageant - St Louis

El Monstero, as always, put on a great performance. However, the seating can leave a lot to be desired. I do not recommend purchasing tickets for the sections right and left balcony. The show El Monstero puts on has lots of background videos and other performers. That can’t be seen from those seats. It doesn’t make for a great experience. If possible pick seats anywhere else and sit back and enjoy the show.

Just seen ElMonstero for the 6th time at the Pagent. Seems like every year they get better and better. The graphics, video, and lights were the best I have seen yet. Sound is always perfect in this venue. Each member in this band are professionals and play as the originals. Love them
