What a treat to have a great musician like Eileen Ivers, play in small town Williamsburg. I have been a fan of hers since the '90s and I couldn't believe my luck when I saw she was playing in the VA Arts Festival. Her passion and skill reminds me of Jimi Hendricks. Not just a traditional fiddle player, but so much more. Plus she kept us entertained and wanting to get us up off our seats and clapping our hands. A jewel of an entertainer. Don't miss her show.
Excellent performance. Interacts with audience continually and excellent performer. She plays a violin/fiddle in all genres and she can rock with her incredible band. Great addition is Deidre on vocals and tenor banjo although Deirdre herself is a fiddler and is a great presence on the stage with Eileen Ivers. Would have loved to see them perform "dueling fiddles" and hope this eventually occurs. Every member of the band was fantastic and can't wait to see them perform again. Venue was relaxing and sound quite good for a large ballroom.
This was one of the best shows I've seen in a while. The energy exhibited by Eileen Ivers, And the rest of the band Immigrant Soul was truly amazing. Buddy Connelly's accordion work was the perfect compliment th Ms. Ivers fiddle work.
Coming from the 33rd County of Ireland (the Bronx) Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Souls entertained and elated the audience with upbeat rhythms, classic music and interactive participation for almost two hours. She educated us with knowledge of Irish Roots and Celtic Heritage. What a Blast!
Our group-ages 14 to 70- thoroughly enjoyed this event. Eileen Ivers and her band clearly love what they do and their joy overflowed into the audience. The music was lively, beautiful and complimented by Irish dancers and a choir. A great holiday evening!
It was literally a Irish pop music, and the ad description was misleading. There was NOT only a Violin, but guiter, percussion (drum), vocal and dancers ( not a lot, just 4 dancers ). Most irritating part about thie performance was the singer who also perform percussion sang horrible. He was a kind of man you can easily see in your neighborhood singing in backyard or in shower. He is so lucky to be in Disney concert hall. Ruined the Beautiful Disney Concert Hall.........
Eileen is so obviously enthusiastic and fully engaged her audience in this cozy venue. All Ireland 7? years in a row as a teen, with a 3 time all Ireland button accordian player and Tommy on percussion and vocals- wow; have seen the great fiddlers of Nova Scotia and Celtic Colours, and I have to tell you, this lady is really great.
The performance was high energy, entertaining and really lifted my holiday spirit!
great show. very talented band, immigrant soul, very tight. played for 2 hours and never slowed down. great mix of styles from celtic to afro beat to bluegrass to soul.
Exceptionally Talented Woman! We were pleasantly surprised at the talent EACH member of this group possessed. This group is a good example that the Sum of All Parts equate to an extremely talented and gifted group. Without a doubt .... I'd see Ms Ivers and her 'Magical Cast' again
Overall a high energy night with 5 excellent musicians. Clearly these people enjoy playing together. And Eileen is a gracious hostess for the evening. The sets are well crafted covering a range of traditional Irish/celtic music and it's derivatives. But this is not an evening of music history. The music has been recently steeped in the contemporary New York music scene making it fresh and accessible to modern audiences. And it's music that spans demographics. Anyone can enjoy it. We saw the band at a very small venue; which made for an intimate experience. But alas there was no dance floor or bar. The reals and jigs are for dancing. And the laments for drinking and crying.
After hearing "Cherish the Ladies," I thought Eileen Ivers couldn't compete in entertainment value. Boy, was I wrong! She truely did Rock the Harbor Irish style. My husband and I were amazed at the show we received for $10 a ticket. Bargain of the summer!
What a great night of music! Starting with the 'opener' Samantha Stollenwerck, who could headline her own show, then the talented Cherish The Ladies, and then finishing up with the ubertalented Eileen Ivers! Loved it!!
This concert, on a perfect night in the open space of the harbor was jaw-dropping. Cherish the Ladies was tight and loose at the same time, the voice of Maryanne Knight (sp?) was mesmerizing and they were funny and the music wondrous, the step-dancing and the history of the music intertwined made it so much more engaging. Then came Eileen Ivers and her band, a group of consummate virtuoso performers in their own right, Ivers playing was incendiary and the selections were selected well with a mix of the melancholic with the manic. I am still shaking from the wonderful time I had.
the haunting images of the Irish immigrants story are perfectly supported by the music of Eileen Ivers and her very talented musicians. A bit of froth in the form of the dancers that accompany her and a very uplifting and nourishing performance that leaves you wondering where you might see them again! Go, enjoy yourself and hopefully this fine quality of live music that celebrates both past and present will continue to be preformed - one could hardly imagine a better evening.
While parts were certainly entertaining, I felt the show was more like a performing arts program you would bring in to a school. The second half of the performatce seemed to go off and be more about African American music than Irish...
