EELS Concert Schedule and Tour

With their highly anticipated 11th studio album hitting shelves in 2014, Eels continue to carry the torch for funny yet emotional alternative rock. Packed with clever wordplay and eloquent observations about the comedy of life, songs like "Novocaine for the Soul" and "Your Lucky Day in Hell" garnered the band a serious cult following in the '90s, and nearly 20 years later they've lost none of their incisive wit. True to form, Eels' 2013 shows featured several encore fake outs that saw them repeatedly return to the stage after the crew had begun to breakdown, with all signs pointing to more shenanigans on their 2014 world tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed by singer-songwriter Mark Oliver Everett, a.k.a. "E," in 1995, Eels' 1996 debut album Beautiful Freak was a surprise hit, making its way on to the Billboard 200 with catchy alt-rock singles like "Novocaine for the Soul" and "Susan's House." The band's overnight success landed them on tour with the likes of Pulp and Fiona Apple, paving the way for a string of acclaimed albums in the '00s. Following the 2013 release of their tenth studio album Wonderful, Glorious,  the band surprised fans with the announcement of another new album in 2014, coinciding with a summer world tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Eels rocked Webster Hall. Great guitars and drums. amazing sound and lights. And E is always a blast! Fun show all around. These guys never disappoint."

"Great show, the band is really tight. E is dedicated to putting on a great show. They did a big encore at the end that was amazing."

"The Eels never disappoint. They always add a unique spin on their music and presentation"

great show. Started early, we did not have to wait for the crew organizing the scene for the ten opening band (it was only one, and good also). And the concert was long!!!

The Eels always keep it interesting

by NHMusicLover on 9/27/10Royale Boston - Boston

You never know quite what you're going to get when you see the Eels - each tour is completely different in the way the music is presented. I don't want to give it away, because I think that's part of the fun, but suffice it to say that this is NOT like the acoustic/symphonic tours of the last few years. E was quite animated and energetic the night we saw him, which made the show even more enjoyable. If you're an Eels fan, you won't be disappointed, but you will be surprised!

EELS grow artistically but show ends crazy early

    by Shells1989 on 9/27/10Terminal 5 - New York

After waiting several months to finally see this highly original band why did the concert end at 10:30 p.m. on a Saturday night in NYC? At Terminal 5? We might as well have seen them at a straight theater when you know the gig must end by 11. This was not a satisfying evening out but thankfully the music was good.

    Eels show was great

by Likestodance on 9/27/10Terminal 5 - New York

Went in with five friends -- I was the only one familiar with the music (and only from listening to one CD). We all agreed it was the most fun we had had at a show in ages -- excellent, excellent dancing -- really imaginative and unpredictable music. Did a cover of Summertime that was nothing short of brilliant. Even the slow stuff was alive -- no dreary droning.

I was surprised how much hard rock / heavy metal music was played. I love the majority of the Eels songs, which are far more mellow than anything they played. We had to walk out because the heavier stuff was painful to listen to.

    The eels rocked the house!

by fototraveler on 9/27/10Terminal 5 - New York

Everything was perfect about the eels performance- the appearance, behavior, music, mixing, set list, lighting, crowd, energy, etc! There were some minor problems before and after the show, however- the opening acts weren't so great, the facilities rushed to clear us out, and the facility had its air conditioning on too much :(

    Exciting yet unexpected

by musicismyhome on 9/27/10Royale Boston - Boston

Eels put on a show as oddball, fun, and endearing as could be expected from their awesome music. My one qualm is that they didn't play enough of their songs I have loved for years now, instead sticking mostly to items off their newer albums.

    Better With Age!

by SaraCS on 9/27/10Terminal 5 - New York

The Eels were incredible. I wasn't too thrilled with the rock 'n roll ventriloquist. It was like Sesame Street for adults, and adults don't need Sesame Street. Jesca Hoop was a great opener. Although the lineup was completely different from when I first saw them 14 years ago, Mark Oliver Everett has gone from great to incredible! The show was very different, but in a very good way! They are entertaining to a larger and more diverse fan base from when they first started out. Great job!

    Blown away

by LorilynnP on 9/27/10Terminal 5 - New York

Incredible show at a great venue. E and company are born entertainers. He melded his honest and introspective lyrics with the upbeat pieces for the total Eels experience. Plus, his banter and obvious pleasure with the fans brought the event to a personal level. One of the best-ever concerts in 20+ years of concert-going. We came almost 100 miles for this one, and will do so again when he's back in town.

    Eels are always good

by HamandEggs on 9/27/10Terminal 5 - New York

Eels are always good. I guess the main problem here was the setlist and the venue. E has a large back catalog to choose from, but didn't play many highlights from key albums. It was mostly from his new trilogy, which to be honest is only mediocre. Nothing from the seminal Electro-Shock Blues and only one song from his opus, Blinking Lights. And Terminal 5 is way to huge a venue for this band. Eels are kind of a niche band, playing a 3,000 capacity cavern-turned-music venue does not complement the band's aesthetic in any way. But the band was lively and tight anyway.

E was in one of his moods. The whole show was very bad. Too early, ridiculous outfit, poor sound quality, I am very disappointed!

    Eels rock the house

by Showmonger on 9/26/10Royale Boston - Boston

2nd time seeing the Eels, first time at the Royale (w/cheese) in the theater district of Boston. Love the Royale as the sound and sight lines are excellent, especially from the balcony. Mark (E) is an artist, period. But, his band are some righteous bearded dudes who can stop and stop on a dime and are extremely accomplished musicians, one and all. I see roughly 50 shows a year, and this one will be in the top 3 this year. Great songs, great playing, great venue.

    Eels were INCREDIBLE

by believethetv on 9/26/10Royale Boston - Boston

I'm not sure what I would say about the two openers...mostly because I had no idea there were openers so I had no time to prepare myself for a rock ventriloquist and ...jessica hoop. But Eels blew me away. Mr. E sounds exactly like he does on the albums..the only difference was the speed. He had a great stage presence, great voice, and his performance was worth way more than we paid. I'm satisfied! my only complaint was that every single tall person in the Boston area showed up to that concert and got infront of me, I swear XD

The best show in recent eel memory

by Eelsfan on 9/26/10Royale Boston - Boston

This was the eight eels concert I have been to, and the best. Butch, Kool G Murder and E were at their best. The venue (Royale) was fun and you could get really close to the band.

    Lots of facial hair

by mclehner on 9/26/10Royale Boston - Boston

The music was more peppy than their albums, but it was fun. The Eels keep things from getting boring or too normal.

    bearded glory

by missmanda on 9/26/10Royale Boston - Boston

E and the rest of the fellers performing as EELS did a bang-up job. Sound at the Roxy was also really well-done. Fuzzy guitars, bruising bass lines and some very snappy drumming. Not to mention beards. To compliment the very beardy E, all other members of the band sported some impressive facial hair and sunglasses. E's showmanship was subtle, clever and just what I wanted to see. The songs played were a great mix of the all-time faves (rearranged!) and the newer singles from the past few albums. Really sweet night that I will remember for some time.

    ROCKED.

by Weirdre on 9/26/10Royale Boston - Boston

I only gave them a 4/5 because their last two shows were probably 6/5, so I had very high expectations for this show. The past shows I went to were MUCH mellower, sit-down events filled with calm inner-reflection. This show was pretty much the opposite. The dudes ROCKED. The audience (primarily ages 30+, there were a minority of us in our 20's), wasn't really quite sure what do to with it for the first half of the set. However, the mash-ups and re-vamped classics that are the Eels as well as a few redone and revived covers kicked it into gear and the crowd started moving and shaking for the second half of the set. Dancetastic. Or head-bobbing-tastic, if you're not one for dancing. Mr. E and The Chet did it once again. They stole my heart.
