About

Debuting their second album at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, the whimsical and fiercely nonconformist musical group Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros finished up their 2013 summer tour just in time to prepare for their next circuit in the New Year. Known as much for their relentless concert schedule as their recognizable 60s hippie commune sound, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are reinvigorating the folk rock music scene alongside occasional tour mates, Mumford and Sons. Expressing a positive, love-one-another vibe while exploring self-image in their music, lead singer Alex Ebert (from Ima Robot) and his many merry cohorts put on energetic live shows that feel both intimate and global. This is no doubt thanks to Ebert’s personal journey, which began with the creation of his alter ego, Edward Sharpe, and his pilgrimage from self-indulgent lovesick drug addict to magnanimous creative.

After strapping on the mantle of Mr. Sharpe, Ebert collected childhood friends, musicians and Jade Castrinos, a one-time sweetheart who shares the vocals in the wildly popular single “Home,” among others, and began playing shows in 2007. In 2009, they toured the nation in a white school bus. Now boasting three full-length albums, including “Up From Below,” “Here” and their recent self-titled work, the collective intends to release some B-sides before completing a fourth album. Though fans may have to wait to hear the next selection of avant-garde musical pieces, they can buy tickets to a show that’s almost certainly coming to a city near them soon. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are undeniably unique in appearance, stage presence and sound, and the deliriously happy disciples have an enchanting effect, even when played through car speakers.

Edward Sharpe and MZs were great!

by Pleiadesladylovesmusic on 6/9/10Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

I've been around longer than most of the young people who attended this concert and truly loved the performance and the energy this group emanates. What a breath of fresh air compared to what is commonly heard on the radio these days. I find myself humming "Home" constantly and like the other songs I've heard from their CD. I hope they continue to make music and tour. Would like to see them in a different venue with a good view and seats for all. Our veiw was blocked for a good part of their performance and the interactions among the group are definitely worth seeing. My 33 year old daughter went with me and we both agreed on this point. She loved it!

    by cool2bekind on 6/9/10Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

The atmosphere at the Vogue had a refreshing cool breeze and a crowd of fans ready for the Edward Sharpe experience. It was a really fun, uplifting, and powerful performance. My first time seeing them and I thought they were awesome. Out of this world. If you get a chance to see them live, take it. Be Free!

    E. Sharpe = Amazing (but too short)!

by thomakea on 6/9/10Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Great show, good crowd, nice song choices, and wonderful energy... just too darn short to be a 5 star show.

    Outstanding

by Goyzilla on 6/7/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

The highlight of the night was the encore where Alex came into the crowd and every sat down around him....I've never seen anything like it before, and probably will never again...it was a special moment.

    Alexander gives nice hugs!

by concerenthusiast on 6/7/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

Wonderful show full of extended versions of their songs that came arcross as down right charming! Alexander and Jade walked arm and arm during Home and passed the mic back and forth, great chemistry. Alex is meant for the stage, shared his love for music and Minneapolis for the song Brother he came into the crowd at First Ave and sat down in the crowd which the audience followed, sang the entire song on the floor amonst his fans, love to see them again...bonus...he stayed after the show and met those who stayed behind, I gave him a hug :) ...he was gracious and humble to all his fans!

    Life changing experience!

by Anonymous on 6/1/10The Fillmore - San Francisco

I don't think I will ever forget this! It was probably the best night of my 15 years. It was such a relaxed concert, I even got to sit on stage during the last song. The opening band was pretty good, I think I might even look into some of their stuff. The crowd screamed for an encore, and they finally gave in the third time. But the best moment was probably the after-show they performed on the sidewalk, complete with piano. I'm going to remember that night for the rest of my life.

    Ed Sharpe was awesome!

by Anonymous on 6/1/10Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

This was one of the best shows I've ever been to. The band had so much energy, the space was great, the sound was amazing. Also loved how Alex Ebert interacts with the crowd. Opening act (Dawes) was also very good.

    Edward Sharpe

by Anonymous on 5/28/10The Fillmore - San Francisco

Edward Sharpe at the Fillmore in San Francisco was awesome, but with a few drawbacks. Alex spent a lot of time shaking hands and sitting at the edge of the stage, so most people could not see him for most of the show. Also, they probably could have done without an encore. They just don't have enough music, and the encore was spent making up songs. Kind of cool, but it would have ended on a much better note after a really solid song. That being said, this is a great show, and shouldn't be missed. I will absolutely see them again.

    Edward Rocks the house

by Jewles8755 on 5/21/10Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Edward Sharpe brings a feeling of happiness and euphoria to everyone in the crowd. He reaches out and tries to include every member in the audience into his spectacle. All members of the band really work together to evoke their feelings and passion for their music. it is 100% worth going to see them. I would recommend it to anyone, even if they don't listen to the band. Their music is uplifting but also as subtle as it needs to be.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnteic Zeros

by Shastinf on 5/21/10Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Show was great and so was the venue. Both of the opening bands were entertaining and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros were what one would expect. A little unorganized with their set but I wouldn't have it any other way! They are a great band and connected with the audience throughout the entire show. The venue was awesome as well, small and intimate. Parking was easy but $10.00. Overall, that was a great experience!
