Eddie Izzard is a British comedian and actor born in Aden, Yemen. The genderfluid performer got her start in sketch comedy and street performance before launching her stand-up comedy career. Known for her rambling, stream-of-consciousness monologue style and self-referencing pantomime, Izzard won two Primetime Emmys for her 2000 special Dress to Kill. The comedian’s film and TV credits include Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), The Riches (2007), Valkyrie (2008), Cars 2 (2011), and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Izzard also earned a Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. In 2024, she premiered her one-person adaptation of Hamlet, which will transfer to Chicago and London following its triple-extended run in New York City.
To connect with Eddie Izzard:
Even though Eddie was brilliant in this Shakespeare play I did not like it because I was expecting a comic version of the play so that I could laugh!
I was super excited to see how Izzard would pull off playing all parts of Hamlet. He absolutely exceeded my expectations. His talent, professionalism and humor made this truly enjoyable. He hit all the important parts of the play, made it relatable and was both serious and humorous when appropriate. I was in awe with the physical as well as mental skills. BRAVO
I was not sure what to expect going into this show but it was fantastic. I don't think I've ever seen a single person play both sides of a swordfight before. If you love seeing Shakespeare performed and know the story of Hamlet, you will likely enjoy this performance. I do hope it goes on tour!
Talk about a new twist on an old standard…. Susie was her usual dynamic self with her energetic and succinct portrayal of countless characters.
This moment in time was one of the best stage performance I have seen in a long time. Eddie Izzard is a riveting one-man-show actor, able to display this entire play with every personages well diffined in a flow of action, without falling into easy clichés. We really enjoyed his take on this monument of classic theater. Well done and thank you.
She is brilliant. It was a gorgeous show. Loved every minute of it.
Masterful performance! Suzy (Eddie) poured her heart and soul into this performance. I'm not usually one for Shakespeare, but this one-woman show was engaging and very enjoyable! Lighting was incredible as well! Hoping to catch this show again when it moves to Chicago.
I loved this show. He’s so talented. I do question the way it was scripted- I feel like there could have been more of a “mission” to the work beyond his performance. Still worth it, though!
I didn't go expecting a funny Hamlet, and I wasn't disappointed. They do a wonderful job of interpreting Shakespear's Hamlet. Sparce set gave them the perfect flow from one scene to another. Only complaint was the sound. Low, hushed passages were very difficult to hear (the drone of the ventilation system). All-in-all, a grand performance. Thanks you Suzy, a treat as always.
I have followed Eddie since he began in late 1990s. I saw Great Expectations and was amazed. I went back to read the book and he hit it on the nail with his 1 man show. Here with Hamlet he did it again. It's been awhile since I read Hamlet but he captured the charaters. The sword fight at the end was kind of thrilling even though he fights himself and you know the ending. There are a few bits that allow his humor. As a fan you catch it. All in all a wonderful performance. Bravo/Brava! Looking forward to the next one.
FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE. FUN AND WITTY. RECOMMEND TO ALL FANS OF EDDIE.
Hamlet is hard enough to follow and it's even more difficult as a one-person show. I love Eddie Izzard and yet we left at intermission (as did quite a few people). The format didn't allow Eddie to shine. Memorizing all those lines for all those characters was definitely impressive but in the end it just wasn't entertaining.
Excellent show! Eddie Izzard was great as always. Kept the audience entertained for over 2 hours. Funny, too 😁
This was one of the best one-woman shows I’ve ever seen. Eddie Izzard is a remarkable performer who can hold the stage and audience with grace and skill. Eddie joins the ranks of the great Hamlets (& every other role in the play). Go see this!
Eddie Izzard has been a force of nature for over 30 years, and is at the top of his game. It would seem virtually impossible for one person to perform all the roles in Hamlet with no props, no scenery and no costume changes, yet with the help of some discrete editing of the original script and the helpful addition of a few explanatory phrases, this consummate comic handles the whole thing with ease in two and a half hours continuously on stage. Less, of course, one 15-minute intermission, more for the sake of the audience members than the one marathon cast member. Most actors might be able to perform this feat once over the course of a week, not 7 times a week. So, go see it! It shall not come this way again, saith The Bard.
An emotionally lifeless waste of time and her considerable talents. I love Eddie but never have I felt so disconnected from a show - sitting in the front row of a tiny theatre with one actor delivering rote memorisation into the middle distance. It was bizarre. She did not deliver a performance beyond knowing her lines and even these she stumbled over several times in the first half. Spent an hour and change staring up at her chin wondering why I paid $100 to be here, then left at intermission.
Kudos to Eddie/Suzy for taking this on. However, it needs improvement. The characters were pretty much all spoken in the same voice, no change of tone or pitch to help differentiate the characters. The set was bare, nothing to even help you imagine the setting. More than a few members of the audience left at intermission, I know I stayed as I wanted to support Eddie and also because I paid a good deal of money to see this performance. Having knowledge of the play certainly helps, but overall, this was a major disappointment.
Suzy Eddie Izzard is always amazing. Coming to Wortham Center was a huge plus as the seats are more accommodating to larger individuals. Cannot wait until the next time.
Everyone in attendance seemed to enjoy themselves. My gf had a great time, so its a big win my book! Cool venue !
You have to know what you’re getting into at an Eddie Izzard show, she’s not your average comedian so you’d better be switched on and paying attention. But if you’re ready for her, she will reward you with flights of fantasy, wit, and intelligence that can’t be beaten. Come back soon Suzie (hopefully…)!
