What is EchoPark Speedway?
Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.
EchoPark Speedway History
Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.
Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.
Great seats and Great show from the drivers. The fans were well behaved. I would recomend this for anyone that likes Nascar.
My only complaint, actually two, No porta potties in the parking lot and getting out of the race is too long. Other than that it was a great facility and race. Sorry one other complaint. Smoking is aloud in the seats. I don't smoke so i smelled like an ashtray and my throat hurt from all the chain smokers around us.
The seats were very good. had good view of almost half of the track. The only problem on this side of the track is you cannot experience all the rolling starts on the finish line whenever race resumes after a yellow flag. And the smoking was a problem
Love the track but a very boring race! Drivers acted like they were just out for a Sunday cruise! To many restrictions by NASCAR! Felt like we were just watching them Go in circles with nothing happening! Do not agree with local businesses upping the price of motels the way the did! Normal rates are 65-85 nightly to just this weekend $250 a night! That's crazy! And no excuse for it! That is why many folks stopped coming they can not afford those prices!
Race was fun! Wish food inside sitting area was better. Need more selection. Would be nice to have items that showcased GA a bit. Hot dogs, corn dogs, pizza, chicken tenders, sausage dogs and maybe a couple of other things was all there was under the Earnhardt seats.
Everything was good, the weather, the seats, the racing....only one complaint and many at the race were upset about it. A couple of seating sections are advertised as no smoking and we were surprised to find out they added our section to the non-smoking list after we bought our tickets. They should have told us when we bought the tickets that the new rule applied to our section (section 161).
it was a great time , way better than Talladegga , but I am still very upset about the spring race being taken away from AMS. I think its borderline criminal that AMS only gets 1 race per year and boring tracks like Louden , N.H. and Arizona get 2 races.
The race action was decent but fairly uneventful. The track is not that challenging like a short track or restricter plate. Parking is confusing and the busing is horrible. The pre-race activities were fun. Super humid and hot.
Great race - great weather - couldn't be better - GO NASCAR
This was the first time I took my grandson to see a NASCAR race and we had a great time. The pre race events were fun, the crowds weren't too bad, the food and merchandise wasn't too expensive and parking wasn't bad. I can't wait to go back!
Big time had by all. Weather was hot but the race was very well run and organized. Montgomery G was awsome.
The food was even reasonable and good. Seats were good and an exceptional performance by Montgomery Gentry!!!
Good Parking lot attendants were great. Gave us plenty of room for parking and tailgating. This is usually a hassle at other venues. The vendor displays were good also. Bad We got good seats but they were still aluminum bleachers. At least they had backs. Time to update the seating. There was no room to move down the rows. Like most Sprint cup races, we need more cautions. We waited 2 hrs after the race before we left our parking spot. Traffic was still bad all the way to the interstate. Did not get moving down the interstate till about 2am. Should have left early. Some of the big vendor displays did not open till later. Army opened about 2pm, Chevrolet opened about 4pm.
Attended Advocare 500. The event was a lot of fun, and well run. Leaving after the race was no fun at all. There was plenty of direction getting into the parking lot before the race. There was none after the race, and it turned into a free for all. It took one hour just to get out of the parking lot. We will go back, though.
The NRA American Warrior 300 was a terrific race. Thank-You NRA for your generosity to your members and all the NASCAR fans that Received tickets.
Great race! Took my grandson for free! Great seats. Well behaved crowd.
the race was better then the cup race for sure! i love the tracks effort to keep racing close to the fans. if there was a complaint, i would have to say i was disapointed that the drivers dont make more effort to visit with fans and give autographs and take pics. ii only got wind of two, tony stewart and brad K........ where are all the rest?
it was a great experience my first time at nascar AMS.people there were very friendly and helpful.my one piece of advise to the speedway is put in some seating outside where the food venders are!
This was our first time to Atlanta Motor Speedway and to NASCAR. It was a great night for our entire family. We were glad we brought water and earplugs. I would definitely recommend renting the radio and earphones to listen to the radio announcers.
Race was fun and entertaining. Great venue! You can sit as close as you like. BUT, you must have ear-protection.
