About

What is EchoPark Speedway?

Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.

EchoPark Speedway History

Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.

Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

  • Half Mile tracks suck

by gdaagent on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

Great night time atmosphere. Race was boring. Nearly put me to sleep in the grandstands. Superspeedways and shorttracks are the best racing. I hate road courses, but the racing is better. Need to do something to get better and closer racing on half milers.

  • AMS has fixed the traffic

by BigCuda on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

Had not been to AMS in a few years, so I left early on Sunday to fight the awful AMS traffic. What a pleasant surprise to find that GA 20 from I-75 has the traffic flowing at a reasonable rate. You can't wait till the last minute to go to any NASCAR race, so don't fool yourself by leaving the ATL Burbs two hours before the race and expect to see the green flag. The stands were nearly full, the race was great at night and the trip home was less than 90 minutes. AMS is a much improved event and the night racing makes it even more fun.

  • Great Seats

by bsattrn on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

The race was not very eventful but out seats were great (section 115). The pre-race concert was pretty bad but everything was great.

  • you better love racing

by mrchen on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 3 out of 5

if you have never been to the race you better think about it, parking is a mile away, on grass and dirt (dont bring your new camaro) , seats suck, aluminum hard seats, very small and tight with your neighbor, who is probably drunk or working on getting there quickly, its hot, humid and not comfortable, you see things alot better at home, obviously you cant hear a thing (and you better have brought hearing protection) I just dont know if it is worth it,

  • Awesome!!

    by browneyedgirl518 on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome race at Atlanta Motor Speedway! Such a great venue! Plenty of parking and traffic was not bad on the way in either! The way out well....if people wouldn't had knocked over all the cones it would had went smooth! Love this track!!!

  • Will not buy tickets in this section ever again!

by cowmilker on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 2 out of 5

I always love going to the Atlanta track but this time was not pleased with the seats. My daughter bought her a Matt Kenseth shirt and she put her Braves hat and my wifes Carl Edwards sun visor in the bag, someone stole it before the race even got started. There was way to much drinking and stumbling around drunk for me.

I always enjoy the Atlanta SpeedWay. It's always exiting. The weather worked in our favor this year. Last year the night of the event we got rained out. I look forward to next year.

  • Amazing Experience

by Duggeredog on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

My first Nascar event was great. It's hard to describe the sound and feel of all the cars as they go by your seats. I had no idea of the sensation of speed and rumbling of the ground as cars go flying past. I thought I could make it without ear plugs...wrong. The sound is incredible, like standing next to a fighter jet taking off. It is amazing that humans can drive so fast and so close together lap after lap. I'm a business man, not the average Nascar fan, but I recommend everyone experience this just once in a lifetime. I'm impressed now.

  • This is racing!

  • Exciting Experience

by JESUPKEYMAN on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

This was a wonderful time with my friends. I had went to the Taladega Alabama track several dozen times, 25 years ago. I am old and my ass got real sore, but I really enjoyed it. There is nothing like LIVE NASCAR. I am sure now that I will retire to the recliner and laptop at hand. If you have never been, DON't Miss It !!!

  • advocare 500 race

by nananascar on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 2 out of 5

Had great expectations but was totally disappointed. Paid $115.00 to sit and sweat off 10 pounds that I can ill afford to lose, while watching one of the most boring races I have ever seen. I don't know why the powers that be dropped the March race in favor of this one, given the heat in Georgia. I do know that I will never go to the Atlanta Speedway again unless they reinstate a race in cooler weather. Boring race....no contact between cars to speak of, no good crashes, etc. Altogether, not worth the money.

  • Great Race

    by Stanger09 on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

Race was great. Atlanta Speedway is a great place to go however, parking is completely out of control. Getting in is hard if you haven't been there before and don't know that a lot of the parking is "by credential only" and must be paid in advance. So you keep driving around, pulling out of traffic into an entrance only to find out you can't park there, working back into traffic and so on. The "free parking areas" are adequate and semi controlled upon entry. Exiting however is nothing short of "pure H _ _ _ _"! Exititing the parking lot and competing with many intoxicated drivers, can take longer than the race itself. Absolutely no control!

  • So So

    by Munchieman63 on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 3 out of 5

This was my 1st time to Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was a nice surprise to see that parking was free but a bit of a disappointment the walk to the track was so far. (Shuttle Service to the gate would be recommended). Once we got to the entrance gate of the facility we were "literally pointed" in the wrong direction by a staff member sending us to the opposite end of the track making the walk even longer.

  • loved it!

    by kim1027 on 9/4/12Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

loved the fan events and getting to meet harvick and bowyer. the only thing i would recommen is bigger screens for the fans to see, sometimes its a little hard to see whats going on and if there were bigger or more screens set up it would be easier to see what was going on. I love going ot ams for racing!!!
