What is EchoPark Speedway?
Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.
EchoPark Speedway History
Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.
Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

Smoking isn't cool anymore & not allowed at most events. I don't go to these events to inhale everyone's smoke. Besides, there are kids around in most every section and it just isn't right! Other than that, the race was fun!
TV doesn't show you the great looking cars that a live event can, the colors jump out! The sound & fell of 43 cars going by you @ 200 mph is had to describe, you go once & you won't miss the next race!!!!!!!!!!
This event was great from start to finish. Parking was good for handicap and transportation to and back from stand was great. I really enjoyed the pre race events. Montgomery Gentry was awesome and the singers of the nation anthem were even better. I would have liked to see a little more action in the race but I saw what I needed,
There is too much smoking in the seats/ stands!!!!
My first time going to one of these types of events and it was a total waste of money. First I paid extra for the pit pass and then no drivers showed up for autographs. Then the cost of food was outrageous, $4 for a bottle of water and there was not a water fountain anywhere to be found. Then the food was served still frozen in the middle. My advice to everyone is to stay at home and watch the race, better, more comfortable seats and better, cheaper food.
We surprised my husband with tickets to our first NASCAR race on his birthday. The seats were great. The weather was great. Our family of five had an awesome time!
It was my first race to watch and very excited. Should be back next year.
It was a great experience and will do it all over again!
The race was awesome as usual but the $100.00 each pit passes SUCKED!!!!! I was expecting to see some drivers and maybe get an autograph or two but NOOOOOOOOOO, in order to get near the cars and drivers, you had to have a Garage Pass which I didnt see or was offered to purchase so I paid $100.00 to see a bunch of Goodyear tires and pit boxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love night racing in Atlanta. My friend is Handicap and we got a ride all the way to the portal and when the race was over we caught a ride back to our car, Great Service AMS
I did not enjoy the race, it was very very loud in the grandstands, I couldn't hear the announcers about what was happening with the drivers, and couldn't even hear the person next to me...all I heard were the loud engines of the race cars. I have been to quite a few races and this is the first one that was very disappointing. I paid well over $100.00 for each seat. My wife ended up going back to the parking lot and just listened to the race on the car radio, she said she had never seen so many people leaving a race so early, and she went to the car at 110 laps. I will not be renewing my tickets for this race, and the couple we were with are not going to renew their either.
AMS was by far the best race I have went to. The concession stands where very efficient but expensive. The staff was very friendly and handled many situations very well. One staff member ensured a fight did not happen by getting the two guys to talk about something else. The parking was very well planned, a very good police presence, and AMS allows alcohol in the stadium which is a very big plus. Overall great race. I will be there next time.
If you are a race fan, you have to experience a NASCAR race in person. The sounds and atmosphere are exciting. Nascar use to be more of a "southern" tradition, but now I think it has gone mainstream with all sorts of fans attending. The race holds you attention, especially at the restarts and the last 100 laps.
We had an amazing weekend. Got to see three NASCAR series races in one weekend. All our seats were great. We also got to see Montgomery Gentry in concert. Where else could you get to see a NASCAR race and a country music concert for the price of one ticket. You definitely need the higher level seats at Atlanta Motor Speedway. We were able to see the entire track and action on the track.
Whole day was great. Plenty of activities outside the track, great pre-race concert, & of course the race itself was tons of fun
This was our first race experience and I should say that it did not disappoint. We sat in the champions grandstand on the 11th row right on the start/finish line. The cars were so close , we felt like we could reach out and touch them. My only complaint would be that it was extremely crowded on that bench. It is a row of twenty that really can only seat 17 or so comfortably. It is also sadly lacking in foot space. We were spoiled from the night before where we sat in the winners stands in the good seats. However, even though the heat was awful, everyone was accomodating about letting those in the center out. We rented the headset scanners that you can use to talk to each other and that really enhanced the experience. We could chat, listen on MRNA radio and Dale Jr. We had food from two different vendors and both were great. The price was ok but not outrageous. We arrived at 2:30 and had no problems getting to parking. At the conclusion, we only sat in traffic for an hour or so which is half the time we expected.
With very little cautions and only a couple of wrecks it got a little boring. I love to watch side by side racing and most of the race was a single line racing. Because of the distance I probably will go back.
As a 20-year NASCAR race veteran, I took 3 newbies to their first ever race at AMS, and my first at AMS. They were impressed, I was impressed, and a great time was had by all!
The race was slowed by an unusual number of cautions, but was still fun and capped by an electric finish. The shorter (300 mile) race provided plenty of action, and still took nearly 3 hours to complete. Racing under the lights is also much nicer than fighting the sun all day, and September in Atlanta is still plenty warm. The only downside was the smoking in the stands. Perhaps designated smoking areas would be a good solution for fans that wish to smoke and spectate.
