What is EchoPark Speedway?
Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.
EchoPark Speedway History
Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.
Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.
The Atlanta Speedway and the race was awesome, my first time at the track and it exceeded my expectations, I'll be back next year. Big crowd but lots of room still, great entertainment. Traffic control was exceptional. A top notch event. I had front seats and loved it, the cars rocket by and wind off them would blow your hair. A absolutely great event.
The race was awesome!! We had great seats and enjoyed the food too.
i had never been to a race and was very disappointed that i could not hear any of the race action commentary----it was great to be so close to the cars and drivers but hearing is just as important--Atlanta needs a better speaker system and more big screens
Ticketmaster and the appropriate race tracks need to get on the same page so you can get through the gates without as much hassle as we went through. Other than the problems getting through the gate everything else was great.
very nice facility, was really happy to have backs on the cheap seats. it did make the rows a little tight getting in and out though, glad to have free parking also. the only other track i have been too was bristol which did not have backs on the cheap seats and you had to pay for your parking, would be nice to have a couple more big screens to see other than just the one in the center, had a hard time seeing what was going on during the wrecks and pit stops, was impressed with the drunks also, they did not seem to get out of hand
Great race exciting until the end, the only bad thing, jeff gordon did'nt win
Incoming traffic & parking was good. Facilities, food, & entertainment were great. Race cars parked on the front stretch against the wall this year which was outstanding for meeting crew members & photos. The race was outstanding and the G-W-C put an end to an already great race. The outflow of traffic after the race needs improving but any NASCAR fan understands what happens at the end of the race.
All the employees that worked there were all so very helpful and friendly. They made my trip there very enjoyable. If you are into racing, you need to go here, its a great place to visit. My family and I are planning to go back next year. My daughter is still talking about her trip to all her friend and family.
The seats I had were front row and I had a great view of the whole race.
Parking was smooth and well organized. Avenues were plenty wide enough to allow pedestrian traffic between vendors and displays. There were a lot of different displays and activities to make the exterior area enjoyable. There were plenty of vendors with cold drinks and good food throughout the area. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about resources, facilities and seating. The only improvement for next year is speakers that can cut through the engine noise a bit better, so that fans can hear the announcers as they describe what action may be happening on the back stretch, where we can't easily see.
Good race, but would have been better had Tony Stewart not had problems and I could actually know what was happening. It was first live race and no scanner..
This race was boring, not worth the money. Not much passing, more than half the field finished a lap down!
Definitely a great race track. Every seat in the place is a great view of the whole track, never had a bad seat, seated low or high. Always great racing, customer service, and overall experience. Been here 5 times now and will be back next year as well.
This was my first time going to Atlanta for a race and i loved it. It was also my first night race which made it even more exciteing. I will defenatly be going back in the future.
This was a great sit on the curve! It's more towards the begining of curve.
The most boring NASCAR race I have ever attended. Single file racing just does not make for good entertainment.
A great experience as I took two of my kids and their spouses and we all had a fantastic evening..
Great on track action and had a great time camping outside the track for 3 nights! The showers at each campground really make this possible. I highly recommend AMS
This was an awesome and unbelievable experience for me and my husband.....If I had not gone to watch this race, I would never have known what I have been missing all of these years....I guess you could say going to this event has saved my marriage.....
Had a great time at a great race. Facility is outstanding. Not a bad seat in the house!
