What is EchoPark Speedway?
Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.
EchoPark Speedway History
Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.
Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.
i had a graet time walking around to all the venders getting things and doing things was nice . it was a nice track and lokk to going back next year
Came early and enjoyed the tailgating, vendor and fun areas, the pre-race concert and the race was exciting to the last lap.
The weather was great, which sometimes doesn't happen. The race was exciting . There's nothing like being there when they take that first lap around. It just gets better with every lap they take.
The race was AWESOME! Had a great time. And the best news was that my driver Denny Hamlin #11 won the race. It was easy to get in and out of the race, a big surprise. Would definitely go back!
with the exception of having to park WAY OUT in the orange lot area, and the walking ALL THE WAY IN, it was early--about 2 pm, our 1st experience at AMS was a very good one. The fan zone was nice--plenty to see and do, but it took some time to find the scanner rental booth--nobody knew it's location. The fireworks show was a BUST--lasted 10 seconds. And the exit lanes went from 4 to 3 to 2 to--yikes ONE! to leave the track should have been as advertised--ALL LANES GOING OUT!!!
The race was awesome. Easy to enter, no problem finding seats, plenty of vendors from which to choose.
Outstanding weekend all around . Seen three fantastic races. The staff was grade A in my book .will be there next year FOR SURE. :-)
First NASCAR race ever, visiting from Hawaii, decided to go to the race since we were in the area. Race was great, people around us tolerable, getting back to our hotel a nightmare. We waited for an hour and a half after the race to go to our car hoping most of the traffic was gone, but not the case. We finally arrived at the hotel (16 mile away) at 2:45 in the morning. This was after reading that the traffic situation wasn't bad with improved procedures to aleviate the situation. Finally just hung tight behind one of the Nascar transporters till we finnaly got on a highway out of hell.........But still the race was cool.
The race was boring, but only because there weren't a lot of crashes. The Atlanta Motor Speedway needs to be better about clarifying what tickets get you on their website. Our tickets got us in to see the race. Period. It was a little ambiguous whether we would get to enjoy any of the pre-race activities, which we didn't. We would have had to spend a lot more money for that. The chicken fingers are terrible. Don't get them. The pretzels, fries and hot dogs are good. All the food is overpriced of course. The bathrooms are in surprising good condition and plentiful. Leaving the place is a nightmare. Bring a DVD player and watch a movie and just sit there for a few hours before trying to leave. Otherwise, everything else was great. I did enjoy being at the race in person and being able to bring in my own drinks and snacks.
If you like racing this is the place to go there is nothing better that seeing those race cars coming out of turn 4 right at you and before you know they are going into the next turn. The roar of the engines the vibration of the grandstands and the smell of the racing fuel is just unforgettable.
Experience was good except when we got moved out of our general admission seats because the rows weren't designated as such. Didn't get asked to move until after section was getting full, despite us sitting in the hot sun for 3 hours just to get good seats. Highly disappointed!
This was not an exciting race. However I must say the people working at AMS did a great job!!! There were plenty of them around. They were very helpful. They were always willing to stop what they were doing and help us find our way to the right place. VERY WELL DONE AMS EVENT TEAM!!!!
AMS is a great facility we had great seats and the racing was very good
My first ever race an I enjoyed it very much and plan on coming back next year
Smoking was allowed in non smoking area. Security was not access able.
Loved the race!! We visited the pits and it was extremely hot. I have a suggestion for next year. I found that there was nothing for sell as far as drinks over in the pit area. We were over in the pits from 2-5:30. I become extremely dehydrated and had to seek medical attention. The nice man and women that were at the entrance of the tunnel checking tickets were so kind. They cooled me down and gave me water until the ambulance arrived. The two paramedics were awesome! Took really good care of me and arranged for a courtesy cart to deliver me to the other side where I enjoyed the race. I want to commend you on the caliber of people that you have employed for this event!! Bravo......and see you next year.
It was a great race, we all enjoyed it especially the late race action
We went to Hotlanta for all three days, it was the greatest weekend that I have had in a very long time. That was some great racing.I would highly recomend this weekend to any Nascar lover.
The events, souvenirs, food, concert and RACE were Spectacular !!! I love the sound of the race cars zooming by...We sit in the front row to feel the vibration and get the rubber from the tires in our faces... Besides that you can see the race car drivers faces when they drive by... Our Family favorites are all different. Dad likes Harvick, Mom likes Jimmie Johnson, Anna likes Stewart and Trevor likes Kennseth. All AWESOME race car drivers !!! We have experienced many races across the United States and this was an exciting race... Thanks.
Great facility but race was boring. Had more fun tailgating.
