About

What is EchoPark Speedway?

Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.

EchoPark Speedway History

Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.

Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

  • Pure adrenaline

What can I say? The title says it all! Even though Kevin Harvick dominated 80-90% of the race there was still a LOT of action in the race! Hopefully AMS will NOT re-pave the track as with its age it presents the car drivers challenges to overcome every lap. With the bumps, slickness, it brings out the real talent of these guys piloting their cars at close to 200 MPH! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that Brad's celebratory victory burnout was really rather lame..But I do kind of understand why, as this was the first time ever that AMS had Victory Lane ON the track by the flag stand..But, still, he COULD have done a little more and created more smoke for the enjoyment of the fans!

Horrible! What has happened to this race??? We lost one of our races and now I believe its a matter of time before we lose the last one! Where are all the vendors? Where are all the interaction events?? I remember when you had to walk shoulder to shoulder!! Now its a desert! I could spend all day visiting things now? I walked through in 30 minutes!!!! This race WILL be done away with soon watch and see!

  • Totally Embarrassed

    by VetAirForce82 on 3/8/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

I take my fiancee to the race for the first time in her life and she's a native of Atlanta. Everything was great until we waited in line to get inside and once at the entrance, my ticketmaster account would not pull up my tickets. I had to go to another Ticket Booth, looking embarrassed cause the first line was very long. Then after I had to wait for the customer service to check their system to see that I did purchase the tickets. My Fiancee said to never use Ticketmaster service cause it was too much of a hassle. The really bad thing that happened was while we were in line to return the headsets and scanner, a white elderly gentleman and fallen and went unconscious and it took quite a while for someone that worked for the speedway to help this man. For the time it took I don't think he survived, my Fiancee was really devastated.

  • Great day at the racetrack

by OldHarr on 3/8/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Eventhough it was green flag almost all the way, still enjoyed being at the track. Sat down low but coudl still see the whole track.

  • Traffic was not an Issue! Good job AMS!

by AnybodybutJimmie on 3/8/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

AMS got a much deserved reputation for being hard to get to and from with all the traffic. It was a great surprise to be able to get there quickly and also leave in a reasonable time. I remember the old days when it took an extra 2 hours or more to get to the track. Only thing I would recommend is having a few industrial fans located near the smoking areas to keep the smoke going away from the concourse. Also need an extra matrix board for Petty Grandstands. The infield one is much too far away to appreciate. We got to go on track for Victory Lane celebration, but it would have worked better to move the portable stage closer to the bleachers, have media on the track, and leave fans in the bleachers for a better view.

  • Excellent seats

The race track did a wonderful job .Racing sucked (no side by side racing only one dominate car the spoiler change didn't help, need to find way to make more competitive.but the pit road experience, and concert were awesome

  • Everything was great!!

    by georgiadawgs98 on 3/8/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

We enjoyed everything from the moment we got there!! There was so many things to do before the race started. Also, we participated and got a lot of free things!

  • Good race, Usual traffic!

    by ALTH219 on 3/8/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Enjoyed the race a lot. Love the facility and wish ATL had another date on the race schedule. However, GA Troopers need to be at the track a lot earlier for traffic. There were no where near enough for such a crowd.

  • Best time ever

It was my first time attending NASCAR and I had a blast

  • boring as it gets

    by Dan3525 on 3/8/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 2 out of 5

I have been to several NASCAR races and this was the most boring in history, no passing, no excitement, nothing but circles. I brought a friend from New Zealand and he said he will never go again due to nothing happening.

  • ATL NASCAR

    by Judd24 on 3/8/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Parking was free and simple. Everything was labeled and traffic directors/officers were kind and friendly. Lots of fun events for the whole family to partake in before the races. For those who have never been to this race track or a NASCAR event, I highly recommend. It is a must do, and a heck of a time. You can also take food and beer into the race track!

It was my son's first time to ATLANTA motor speedway. He had a great time except ticket master or the race people lost our reserved headset confirmation so we had to pay for those again....

  • long time fan nascar is coming up way short

by hotlap on 3/7/17Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

Atlanta has never been a fan race until the last lap over the years really. I had not been to a race in a few years but the price of a ticket drew me in. I drove right up to the gate never done that before. No one was there and after going in there was no seats meaning if it had sold out there would not have been tht many there Between the loud nose, drunks and parents not watching there kids because they were drunk it was really bad. Thank God there was a lot of seats so we were ale to move multi times. We left early and I have to thank my on for that. I really don't think we will be going to another!
