About

What is EchoPark Speedway?

Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.

EchoPark Speedway History

Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.

Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

  • Atlanta Race for my son!!

by rtjones on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

My youngest son had never been to a race before so I decided to take him to the Atlanta Race. He had a really good time and wants to go to another race someday.

  • Weather was great! Racing was good

    by Rocketman213 on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

Really enjoyed it! Our raceday started with only a 30 min traffic backup on the way in, and a 10 minute wait on the way out! That is very, very rare even with the fact we left right at the mere glimpse of the checkered flag.. Racing was good, but at times kind of boring, even for a diehard race fan. (I do, however, know that is a variable that is difficult to manage) Repave in the future?? Cars were REALLY slowing down as green runs went on.. Possibly include some less-expensive seats on the frontstretch or backstretch sometime in the future?? I was in the turn 3 grandstands and it was PACKED, while the frontstretch looked really thinned out.. There might be some extra revenue opportunities with that... Great move with making this a night race!! I have nothing but praise for that move!! Finally, I am extremely dissapointed that AMS is losing its Spring race.. I do understand though there are many variables at play with this as well, and overall this is probably the best move for the organization.. Im still sad about it though Thank you AMS for a very good experience overall!!

  • Tony Stewart wins the Atlanta 500!

by racecarfan on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

I have been watching Tony Stewart struggle this year to win a race, and after his last race in Bristol and getting bump out of the top five; I just knew he was going to come to Atlanta and win this time. Wow! i was right! It was a roaring blast! to be at the Atlanta 500 and watch him lead the way, mostly thru the entire race. I just wish i would of had a better camera and a cooler! lol

  • NASCAR in Atlanta Sept. 05, 2010

by JWBrunswick on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

I bought my tickets through Ticketmaster a week before this event. Ticketmaster got the tickets to me quick which took the stress out of waiting. Traffic and parking was no problem at all. I am used to the traffic and parking fiasco at Daytona so Atlanta was a nice change. This was my first time at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. I was very impressed with everything. Plenty of easy access restrooms and refreshments. As always the race was awesome and you can see the entire track from the 4th row seats that we had. Going to a race doesn't get any better than this. The only complaint I had was the extreme heat until the sun went down which has nothing to do with the event or track.....just Atlanta in September! I would recommend a trip to Atlanta Motor Speedway for any NASCAR fan and I will definately be going back!!!!!!!

by cgbbtb on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great race. Lots of excitement with lead changes and a lot of moving through the field. One of the best races I've seen at AMS.

  • How can you review NASCAR

by WelshmaninMIA on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

As an event it changes every time, so saying "good race" won't help anyone in the future - so I'll review the location. Definitely a need for more signs to the Speedway from the airport or for the tack to be noted on those little maps given by car hire companies - but Satnav worked it's magic and once going in the general direction of the track the signs started showing up. Organization at the track was excellent - could do with some working policemen on the road to the track, there were police cars there but why I have no idea as they were doing nothing - but once on the "Speedway road" traffic control was taken over by, I guess speedway staff, and it all got organized and moved well. Parking was within walking distance of the track. If one thing is needed it is more food outlets outside the track, especially ones that stay open post race - it took a good two hours to clear the car parks, some people had their own supplies but anyone selling burgers / hotdogs / drinks etc could make a fortune.

  • Atlanta Motor Speedway - A great track

    by smcm2bmcm on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Seats were in row 59 in the Earnhardt section. Great seats but I would recommend seating in row 50 to 54. High enough to see the entire track, low enough where the support stations are not in your view. Our seats were in front of the entry to pit row with a large screen right in front of us so we could see replays of the action.

  • Tony hit the Restart right on time!

    by 1Stewartfan on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

The race was phenomenal! The weather was good. It was a bit hot early in the afternoon, but by race time it was perfect! Foreigner was excellent. They sounded like they always did! Emory did a great job with their sponsorship. To top it off, MY driver won! It couldn't have been better!

Great way to spend the Labor Day weekend with family and friends, camping out in the Family Section.

  • Great experience

Ours seats were great, and overall we had a great time.

  • True fan after this event!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    by 43boyds on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

The event was our first event. We weren't really prepared (the noise and smoke) but we really were excited to be there. We watched the last 25-30 qualifying cars do their runs and we watched the entire 300 clips and boy was it thrilling. It was well worth the back aches from the stadium seating but we must attend another event in the near future. No small county/city racing but the real thing.

  • Emory 500 under the lights was AMAZING!!

by djandgabsmom on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

The race was awesome....seats were great....but sure with Atlanta would make a family section with NO smoking or drinking! I took my kids 9 & 12 and the people behind us were saying FILTHY things!! I thought we were going to have to get up and leave! Luciky for us, the main one was soooo drunk that about 50 to 75 laps in he got up and left and didnt return!!

  • was so much fun

by hopetwin on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

we had a fun time until we got in our seats , there was college kids with beer leaning over us and spilt beer on me and my daughters . I will never seat in the Elliott stands again , all the drunk college kids was there and would run into us , leaning over people to get beers from friends and stood up where people couldn't see, if people asked then to sit down they would cuss at them and do hand gestures. Other then that we had a good time , not good seats

  • Best seat in the house

    by MartinFanSince1987 on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my wife's first race ever she used to be the person making fun of nascar, however, on the way home she was talking about booking another track she loved it so much! The best seats would have to be right off pit road. We really liked watching the race off pit road and right when the drivers would get up to speed from the start/finish. Highly recommend bringing a cooler with drinks as drinks are 4 dollars for non-alcohol, and 7 dollars was the lowest for a mixed drink. Also recommend buying or renting a headset. Even if they are just to protect your ears as mine were ringing for a full day after the race from not having any.

  • Fan friendly track, not so for the handicapped

by bigkeith on 9/7/10Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 2 out of 5

As far as the race itself it was a good one, my biggest problem was the lack of handicapped friendly amenities.
