What is EchoPark Speedway?
Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.
EchoPark Speedway History
Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.
Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.
The race was one of the quickest I have been to in the last 7 years. The Atlanta Race needs to open all the exit gates in the fence in areas to allow more flow of traffic out so people can get home a little sooner. It seems that if you are in the reserved parking you are let go first.
Spectacular weather, great track. Pre-race concert with Foreigner was excellent! Pre-race events were very patriotic and moving as always at NASCAR events. Only complaint is they should warn you before purchase when your seat, in the higher-priced ticket area that you chose to sit in, has an obstructed view. One seat, in the middle of our ticket purchase (bought 7 tickets) was directly next to a steel pillar which was a definite annoyance when you are watching cars come around the fourth turn 325 times. But over all we had a fantastic day at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The National Anthem was inspiring. The race was great and as usual the fans were out of this world!! We'll see you there in Sept, 2011.
The race was great as usual, but the live bands outside the track and the Foreigner concert inside was fantastic!!! This added to the experience of a Labor Day Celebration. Hope they do this again next year.
A fun race with at a good racetrack. AMS is a very fan friendly establishment and I highly recommend it.
The Emory Healthcare 500 was a very good event and a good race. The race was exciting, the crowd was responsive, and the finish was exciting.
This was my second time to ever see a nascar race up front and personal and it was GREAT!! At first I thought I was not going to enjoy it because it was hot and crowded, but once the race started none of that mattered. The roar of the motors and the speed they were going was awsome! We had great seats to, right down at the track so everytime they went by you could feel the wind in your face. Another great thing was the jets flying over our heads, it felt like they were right beside us. IT WAS GREAT!!! Of course I had to take time to Facebook all my moments.
Racing was incredible, venue terrific. Highly recommended.
Great time and cant ask for better weather. Tailgated from 10am until the race that night and will be back last year.
Enjoyed the night racing at Atlanta Speedway after coming back a year later.
The experience was awesome! We were there Saturday night and Sunday and we had a wonderful time. There was a bit of trouble around our area, but the sheriff contained the situation with no further incedents. The ushers were a great help, the bathrooms were clean and we will be there next year.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is always a great venue. The whole family had a great time.
The hole day was amazing. My first NASCAR race and it was a dream come true. I just can't wait for my next race. The energy, the fans, the competetivity, the hard racing was there, and it felt great to be a part of the 50th anni of the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The only thing that I think should be better organized is the handling of the traffic once the race is over. It was a nightmare to get out of the parking lot. But for everything else, GREAT JOB CITY OF ATLANTA for a wonderful weekend!
I think AMS needs to get into 2010 and ban smoking from the venue except in designated areas. Smoking ruins the race for everyone else when you got 4 puffers sitting right in front of you. Come one, lets face it, smokers are in the minority and they need to take their puffs elsewhere. How about having a SMOKING SECTION, and not just one non smoking section.
We had an EXCELLENT time! Our seats were perfect, the entertainment, venue, drinks, food were great. We even found some great deals on merchandise.
Event staff was not knowledgeable and created a giant headache for us when trying to get to our campsite. Reserved parking passes and campsite passes had to be picked up at the entrance to the campground; however you couldn't get to the campground without the pass. This meant you had to park, walk 1 mile, pick up your packet, walk back to your car, and then drive in. Race was average; most of the field was spread out for the majority of the race. Great track for visibility.
Never been to a Nascar race before and this was truly awesome. The nigh race was even better than I thought it would be. Definitely going to try to go next years.
We do the Nascar night race every year and it is one of the absolute best! This year we took our 4 year old and he had the best time of his life!

Great night at AMS. No traffic issues. Parking was a breeze and free! Weather was perfect for the event. No line at the gate to gain access to the event. Seats for the price were great! Only negative aspect is there is an opening on the backside of the bleachers which snatched my 3 shirts, only negative for the night.
