What is EchoPark Speedway?
Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.
EchoPark Speedway History
Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.
Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

You have a nice track. Easy to get into and park. Your vending outlets had items advertised, and you wait in line and get up to the counter and they were out of the product. Exiting your track is a nightmare. You need alot more signs telling people where to exit, instead you had a bunch of cones out and cops standing around, plus when you asked the cops something they had no info how to exit, they said just keep moving.Section 268 row 59 seat 12 and 13 you had water leaking down on us from up above. You need to do some maintance on your stands. I don't think I would come back for a race at you track.
Way to go Atlanta Motor Speedway. Coolers allowed with plastic bottles or cans (no glass) also outside food allowed. Are you hearing this Daytona? This was not my first race but was my first trip to Atlanta. I was a little leary having never used ticketmaster but we were 13 rows from the track right on the entry line to the pits. We saw every rub coming out of turn 4! The vibration of 30 powerful cars at 185+ MPH was unbelievable. TIP: bring ear protection! The pre-race concert was fantastic. Foreigner played so many hits! The barbershop style of the Star Spangled Banner and the F-16 flyby brought tears to my eyes! We tryly are blessed to live in such a great country. I will be making a return trip next year, OH Yeah, and they allow tailgating in the parking lot before and after the race! Bring the grill and hot dogs, ice down some beer and enjoy the show!
There is nothing like sitting in the stands with all the fans hearing the engines crank up and go. It was an exciting race, especially the last 150 laps. Television is fine but it does not compare to being there.
Not as many vendor displays as have been in the past and what there was had line so long you had to wait forever but they did have great stuff to give away when you finally got to them so i guess it could have been worse. Race was the best I have been to. It is so much better when your favorite driver leads most of the race and goes on to win it.
I took a co-worker for her first time, it being my second time. The race was awesome to watch and it being at night was even better. The speed, the smells, the burning rubber, the drunks, the nice security folks in yellow, etc all played into a awesome experience. We came from Birmingham, Al and it was worth the trip. Seeing a nascar race in person is totally different experience than watching it on TV. I would say AMS it for sure a step up from Talladega, but not cutting Talladega short. You feel the experience come to life with every aspect from the race to the people in the stands. AMS is awesome experience whether fpr the newbie or the returning visitor. Its an experience that does not get old and you feel right in the action everytime you go.
This past weekend's race was awesome. I was so impressed with all the events. The concert was great. The singing of the pledge of allegience was quite moving. The Star Spangled Banner was also done very well. The fly over was excellent. I am disappointed that AMS is losing the spring race but do understand the economics involved. I believe that if promoted correctly next yea'rs race weekend will be outstanding. We have attended each year since we have moved here from NY 16 years ago and also have friends from Arizona come here and we also have attended races at the PIR. But the race here is much better, the track is a beautiful facility and easier to leave once the race is over. Of course the best part was that a Chevy won !
It was awesome we were on the start finish line got to c the whole track
Race was ok - enjoyed that. However, when going to the truck during the race, I got head up; all of my cash and race tickets were taken! I was already upset due to not being able to return one ticket when someone backed out; then all my cash was taken and I couldn't get back in. I will think twice before going again.
This was my first race but I will definitely be back!
The first 130 or so laps led much to be desired. But when the action started after the sun had been down for a while.. WOW! I was so excited to be part of it! Night races have got to be the best, the sparks flying, the bursts of flames from the exhausts.. WOW!!!
Had a toddler in a stroller. Did not know until we got to the gate "no strollers allowed". You can have all of the rolling ice chests you want. There are no signs stating this and it's not on the back of the tickets. The ticket gates were not organized. We were the lucky ones to be told. While we waited at the gate for one person to return the stroller to the car, someone came through the gates with....., you got it, a stroller. I guess they were actually the lucky ones.
We enjoyed the race but was disappointed by not having the ticket to get our free hotdogs and cokes, like we were promised. When we returned home it was in the mail which came on Saturday Sept 4..
This was my first night race to attend and it was definitely worth every penny!
Great race! Great fun! Great seats! Took my wife for the first time and she's hooked! Already making plans for Darlington next May!
the nationwide race was very good racing/ the intercom was way to loud before the race an after / an the seats do not have enough leg room / the track help could be a tad bit nicer cause we all have bad day,s
it is nascar so it is all-ways a great show to go to
I went to both races over the weekend and I actually enjoyed the Saturday race more, due to the fact the seats were not as packed and the traffic exiting was better. The racing was very compettative for both days and the weather was great.
fIRST TIME AT THE aTLANTA RACE. gREAT TRACK. Fantastic, abundant and free parking. Lots of concessions kept lines down. Will go back !
First Quarter of race was a little easy going. then after the first caution flag man there was some battling going on hard racing and good driving. Great Race All Together.
