About

What is EchoPark Speedway?

Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.

EchoPark Speedway History

Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.

Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

  • no show

by Wetandcold on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

Went to Atlanta Speedway to watch the Nascar Race on Sept 4th. After sitting in the rain for 5 hours the race was called off. Enough time for the vendors to sell out their drinks and food! There was no mention of refund for those of us that drove 5 hours to see this event. Rescheduling for 2 days later is not doable for those of us who drive 5 hours to see the event. Perhaps Nascar is best watched on TV for those who are further then 50 miles away. Disappointed fan :(

  • NASCAR at Atlanta with lots of rain

by DanRay on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

The weather was terrible for racing. That's why only 4 stars, better weather would have meant 5 stars. However, since the bad weather had delayed the race, more of the drivers were out signing autographs and speaking, that was a plus. The worst part was trying to leave the parking lot. They only had one outlet for the entire section I was parked in, it took about an hour just to get out of the parking lot! Overall we had a good time, more cautions would have made a more exciting race.

  • Race was Awesome!!!

by SpeedonFire on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

The race at AMS was one of the better challenges I have seen! When the weather finally cooperated a very fast race was able to be run. Gordon deserved the win and was racing for it right down to the finish line! Great time!!!

  • Atlanta Sprint Cup Race was great!

by AmericanBiker on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 4 out of 5

Race was postponed due to rain and re-scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011. Fortunately, I was able to take off from work to attend. I commend NASCAR for completing the race even with all the rain (mist) delays. Thank you Atlanta Motor Speedway and NASCAR for making a great event!

Lynyrd skynyrd could have played more songs but weather held it up. NASCAR is slow to postpone races in the event of rain but overall great seats and race

  • It's Atlanta

by notanatlantafan on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

Once again the good old boys of Henry County came together to suck the money out of the race fan. It was 10 years since I have been to Hampton for a race, and it will be the last. Of all the tracks, Hampton's management staff cares less about the fan, than most other events. Traffic control is still left in the hands of less than capable personnel and the call to postpone the pace for rain....don't know if they were looking at radar or their wallets, but IT NEVER RAINED AGAIN THAT NIGHT. It would not hurt for Atlanta to lose another race The race fans would not lose so much money, that's for sure!

  • give back half

    by 1pisstdad on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 3 out of 5

It was to be a gift for my sons 22nd birthday. I flew my daughter in to atlanta, and I drove from alabama by way of fort benning where my son is stationed. I understand mother natures rath but I don't get why I paid 335 dollars for 3 tickets to see a race on sunday just to have nascar change the day to tuesday. My daughters flight was monday evening my son had to be back on base tuesday morning and I had to be back at work tuesday as well. What did I get for my money's worth? A very expensive 45 min concert with lanard skinard?! Come on nascar and atl speedway! My son didn't get his b-day present and I can't afford to spend any more money cause there's no refunds!!!! Atleast refund half! One pissed off dad!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rain policy sucked

by Sirvanderlaan on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

Atlanta Motor Speedway is a great venue. Nascar is a fun support. Nascar officials suck. We spent 5 hours waiting in the rain on Sunday because they would not call it. Then they rescheduled during the work and school day. We bought 8 tickets and did not get to use any. Boo.

  • Nascar don't think about fans!!!!!

by gibsonclan on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 2 out of 5

We went to experience our first nite race and Nascar postponed 2 days when most fans could not attend in the middle of the week...I think we should have gotten our money back or received entrance to the next Atlanta race with our tickets. One good thing we did recieve the rain we needed. Thanks LEE!!!!!!

  • need more places to sit

by spincellar on 9/8/11Atlanta Motor Speedway - HamptonRating: 3 out of 5

Ok so this doesn't always happen - it rained and rained and rained. In under the cover, near all of the food stands we would have expected to see more dry places to sit and at least enjoy some food and beverages without having to stand
