About

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN IN CONCERT:

Formed in the late-'70s wake of punk's first wave, Echo & the Bunnymen forged a unique fusion of post-punk, new wave, and neo-psychedelia that established them as pioneers of a new direction in British rock. Today the band's moody, sophisticated sound is as compelling as ever, and their spellbinding live shows are the perfect place to experience it in the flesh. Whether brooding frontman Ian McCulloch is belting out classics from seminal 1984 album Ocean Rain or performing new material from 2014's Meteorites, Echo & the Bunnymen never fail to mesmerize with muscular musicianship and intense performances on their unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Echo & the Bunnymen formed in Liverpool in 1978, taking their name from a list of nonsensical monikers suggested by a friend. The band made their debut in 1979 with "The Pictures on My Wall", released on the now-legendary Mute Records imprint. Their 1980 album debut Crocodiles was a critical and commercial success, cracking the UK Top 20 and setting the stage for the success of sophomore album Heaven Up Here, which reached the Top 10 in 1981. Their chart run continued in 1983 with third album Porcupine, the vessel for hit singles "The Back of Love" and "The Cutter" and predecessor to the band's landmark 1984 album Ocean Rain, widely considered by critics as the pinnacle of their '80s output. After taking a hiatus between 1993-1996 the band reformed with a vengeance, scoring another Top 10 hit with "Nothing Lasts Forever" and delivering a powerful series of performances on tour. With their 12th studio album Meteorites hitting shelves in 2104, Echo & the Bunnymen have fans eagerly awaiting their next live shows. Previously, Echo & the Bunnymen has sold out venues to capacity, like The Fillmore (Minneapolis) and Fox Theater (Oakland).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Amazing show. Ian's voice has not changed a bit. The band sounds the same as the first time I heard them. Bravo!"

"The Bunnymen did amazing renditions of their albums. The improvisation on Crocodiles brought back many great live memories of Bunnymen past shows."

"It was an amazing show. The band sounded incredible and Ian was very much a dynamic presence. Two complete albums were played, along with encores, so it was definitely a show to remember."

    Taking me back 35 years!

by Roger the Shrubber on 5/17/24The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

I enjoyed seeing Echo & the Bunnymen. The crowd was full of my people -- men and women of a certain age that if they grew up in the DC area, listed to WHFS where they got to know this band. I think Ian's voice was off the night of the concert I attended. He didn't seem able to hit the higher notes that we all remember from the album. I don't know if it was just the performance I attended and he was tired from other gigs, or if this is the new normal. Hey -- I can't hit the notes I used to hit either. I would not let it keep you from attending a performance if you get the chance.

    Better than last time

by JC on 5/17/24Tabernacle - Atlanta

Last year McCulloch was a mess, seemed to be be drunk. He staggered around, and vomited off stage. This time he was a little more talkative, if you can understand his accent. He did have a few outburst at his band mates trying to get the fans to sing along, but over all it was good. His voice is obviously a little bruised form time. Again it was a great show.

    Echo fun

by Sand n Sun on 5/16/24Tabernacle - Atlanta

Great show overall on all levels. My only complaint is that sadly the stage was so dark it was impossible to get any pictures of the band. We want pictures to preserve our memories of the show, so please consider your venue’s other guests that are NOT seated on the stage level or floor area (they have a better view of the stage) the rest of us need lights focused on the stage and not focused on the crowd or hardly any lights at all on the stage as happened throughout this show.

Echo & the Bunnymen put on an outstanding show, sounded just as good now as they did back in the day. A great show with all the hits prevailed.

    a great concert

by daniel on 5/14/24White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - Houston

I have loved Echo and the Bunnymen since the 80s, and had only seen them in the early 90s on the Reverberation tour. This concert was a lot more energetic, and the venue was the right size to make it a fun experience. The acoustics weren't the best for hearing Ian's stories, but the music never suffered.

    Unnecessarily long

by Dturner25 on 5/14/24The Joy Theater - New Orleans

The concert was good, great experience. But it was long. 45 minutes between opening act and Echo, then a 20 minute intermission that wasn’t needed.

    Disappointing

by VirtualFan on 5/14/24The Joy Theater - New Orleans

It felt like waiting for a "prima donna"with the unexplainable unnecessary 45 minute interim between bands. The band sounded good, but Ian McCulloch's voice has not aged well through the years. Also, the band took an unexpected break after eight / nine (?) songs. I took that as my cue to leave, disappointed by the performance.

We were able to stand front and center! They did a great set AND my kid got a copy of the set list! It will forever be a memorable experience!

    Great performance but overcrowded venue

by Kenbob on 5/13/24White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - Houston

E and Bunnymen were great. Ian and band sounded just like I hoped and the audience loved the show. They did two long sets and covered all the hits. But the venue was way too crowded with no isles or open spaces anywhere in the performance space. This made it difficult and uncomfortable for many to enjoy or feel safe. Shame on White Oak for overselling tickets.

    Great performance

by JR on 5/13/24White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - Houston

Echo and the Bunnymen never disappoint. But the venue did. It seems like the White Oak Music Hall over sold tickets, because the crowd was spilling outside. And the packed conditions with no air conditioning was a formula for disaster. I don’t think I’d come back to see a show inside the venue.

Stage setup for main act took too long

by SKS on 5/13/24White Oak Music Hall - Downstairs - Houston

The openning act started at 8pm and played for 30 minutes as expected. Opening act was good. Then it took 40 minutes of dead time to setup for the main act, Echo & The Bunnymen. The process was too slow - the setup people were moving around without a sense of urgency. More of the stage should have been setup and ready to go before the opening act. The opening act didn’t have any special set or props. After the long setup, I got to listen to only 35 minutes of Echo before I had to leave. White Oak Music Hall also needs to make it more clear on their website that 7pm is when the doors open, not when the opening act starts.

    Disappointing Show

    by Eric M on 5/12/24

I was excited when this show was announced and had been holding a ticket for 5 months, but left very disappointed. The show started 30 minutes late and then there was another 20 minute break after the opening 8 song set. In the span of 90 minutes the band were on stage for about 35. They had a sold out venue and the crowd was mostly dead from all of the delays. The band themselves played great, but Ian's vocals seemed a little off.
