About

E-40 is one of the original innovators of Bay Area rap, helping the musical style gain a national following with his flamboyant raps and homegrown talent. His flourishing concerts have gained him a reputation for packing houses and filling up clubs with his irreverent attitude and off-the-hook style. He raps into his mic and waves his hands back and forth to get his audience reeling. His tours bring in crowds who love to dance, so if you have a ticket to an E-40 concert, make sure you’re ready to be on your feet all night. You can hear new tunes by this Bay Area rapper on his recently released album The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil Parts 4, 5 & 6.

Born in Vallejo, CA, E-40 began as an underground artist, but emerged into the mainstream Bay Area rap scene in the mid-90s. His solo album A Wider Way brought him national attention among rap fans, and by 1998, he was collaborating with other local rap artists. E-40's popularity officially took off in 2006 when he released "Tell Me When to Go," a single produced by Lil Jon. His album My Ghetto Report Card reached No. 3 on The Billboard Hot 200 that same year. E-40 is also well-known for his collaborations, particularly recording "Snap Yo Fingers" with Lil Jon and Sean P of YoungBloodz, which reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100. It’s hard to find artists who are as beloved around the country as they are in their hometowns, but E-40 has done a fantastic job of garnering love locally and nationally with his down and dirty jams.

E-40 & Too Short concert was a disappointment!

    by Deew2126 on 3/22/12Carlson Center - Fairbanks

Nothing against the artist themselves but Rico Rossi the host killed it for me. Sound system was ghetto (Thx to Redd and the crew for improving from the Anchorage concert), wrong choice in venue location (would have been better at the Blue Loon), and the fact that it was an all age event. Next time I hope Rico Rossi isn't involved!

    Mildly entertaining, mostly subpar

by ReginaldBuckwild on 3/19/12Carlson Center - Fairbanks

The show was mired with mostly forgivable technical issues. Sound not mixed well(vocals were very hard to discern), mics overdriving speakers if someone got within 15 ft of them. The venue itself did not seem ready for a rap concert. Filling the area that would usually be GA with folding chairs, which lead to people standing on them, which lead to the venues aging security force clashing with concert goers over very minor things. The local opening acts did more actual rapping than the "gold record" "internationally known" openers(Beeda Weeda), who mostly sang along with the choruses & verses to some remixes they were featured on. When I say "sang along" I mean, literally, the song was playing and they were singing along with it. B-legit came out for about 5 songs, the technical issues & his delivery made him nearly unintelligible. The announcer/comedian/whatever who was speaking between sets was largely just a rambling drunk. Too Short came out next, played between 8-12 tracks. Some of the technical issues cleared up for his set and it immediately became apparent that he was far more experienced onstage than anyone else, even his hype man was understandable/clear. No singing along here, Too Short/Dolla Will actually MC'd rather well. Worth the price of admission just for this part of the show. E-40 came out after Too Short, I had high hopes for his set. Those hopes were dashed against the cold, hard rocks of reality when he came out and began rapping with the microphone so close to his face that it could've been a spare bodypart. Could not understand a word(partly due to microphone being located inside E-40's face, partly due to the fact that the sound guys didn't have much time to improve the mix going out to the speakers, apparently) Thankfully, e-40 & the sound guys pulled it together for the last song, which was "Tell Me When to Go". This almost made up for the entire set being pretty lackluster.

    Awful

by Anonymous on 3/19/12Carlson Center - Fairbanks

This concert was awful. They decided to choose a venue that could hold 5000 people and only 500 showed up. The sound quality was terrible, sounded like speakers big enough for a garage. Too Short and E40 were good but of course they only play for 30 mins of the 3 hour concert.

    Just something to do!

    by Mac02 on 3/19/12Carlson Center - Fairbanks

Too expensive. No one really showed up...I could have bought a cheap ticket for the rafters & just came down to the floor seats like everyone else did.

    Worst concert I've ever attended.

by Angelienie on 3/18/12William a Egan Civic and Convention Center - Anchorage

The DJ was horrible... as well as the lighting and sound system. Too $hort was so mad he walked off the stage and didn't finish his performance. Most wasted $40 ticket I've ever purchased. My friends and I left extremely early and listened to better quality music at home.

    Wasn't that great

by ivan8r on 3/18/12William a Egan Civic and Convention Center - Anchorage

I had very high hopes for this show and ended up leaving disappointed. I am from the Bay Area and I've been a fan of all 3 performers for a long time. I started off my night by being harassed by security. After getting through that, I moved into the main arena to find that the sound system was pretty poor. The performances by B-Legit and Too Short were way too short and they were basically singing over their record. E-40 came on and put on a decent show, but it wasn't anything that I would rave about. His performance was also pretty short and for at least half of the songs were shortened for the show.

    Yadidimean!

by JoeSchmuck on 6/19/114th and B - San Diego

My first E-40 concert after a lifetime of fandom. I grew up on E-40's music and he's far and away my favorite rapper of all time. The price was fair and the venue was okay....great for dancing but having to stand for about 4 1/2 hours was not so great for my old knees. I also didn't like having to sit through almost four hours of mediocre local opening acts before E-40 even got on stage. He performed some of my favorite songs, a couple newer hits, and was generally entertaining and fun, but he was only onstage for about 40 minutes, which was disappointing. Maybe I'll try and see him up in his home turf (the Bay) one day, but it's obvious that he didn't bring his A-game to San Diego.

It was an unforgettable HYPHY MOMENT!!

by Manman1 on 4/19/11Club Animal - Rosarito Beach, Mexico

The absolutely best... I MEAN BEST E-40 concert that Ive ever been to was Labor Day weekend 2006 in Rosarito Beach (few miles south of Tijuana)!! E-40's Ghetto Report Card had just came out earlier that year. It was outside on the beach at Club Animal. I had a all you can drink bracelet for $40 and it was well worth it!! The line up E-40, Keek Tha Sneek, Federation and they even brought Marty James. Not only was The Hyphy movement was in full affect but he also did some old school jams like "Capn Sava' Hizzo" and they did a tribute to Mac Dre!! Tha concert started about 9pm with local San Diego radio promos stuff and dance competitions. Then E-40 and the Hyphy movement tore' it down from 11 till 3am....I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT WEEKEND >>>> YAY AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Show Was Short And Not Sweet!

by Novelist73 on 12/2/10Hard Rock Cafe - Las Vegas

MY GOODNESS! That is what I have to start off my saying about the 10th show that my sister and I have been to this year. I always look at the reviews from others before I attend a show and sometimes it's different here in Vegas where a performer would start at a respectable time but in this case the previous reviews were right on! The doors to the venue opened at 10:00pm and they were open because my sister and I got there at a little bit before 11:00 after we had to walk through the wind and the rain which is rare here in Vegas and who knew that the weather was gonna be a strong indicator on how this night was going to be? At around 11:00pm, yes, 11:00pm,The local radio DJ said that E-40 was in the building and going to take the stage at 12:00am....I'm gonna keep this as short as the show was....E-40 did not take the stage at 12:00am, he took it at around 1:45am, after we had to stand through what it seemed like a rap free-for-all where about 20 men came out on the stage rapping and handing out CD's as they shook people's hands. They didn't even say who they were and only 2 of them had microphones in their hands. I had never seen an opening act so disorganized in my life! LOL I was up front and wasn't in the mood to shake anyone's hand after standing for almost 3 hours. I did however shake Flava Flav's hand since he surprised the crowd when he walked out on the stage. After the opening act (if you want to call it that), we had to wait another half hour pretty much and E-40 finally came out with another man but I didn't catch his name....performed some of his hits including my favorite U and Dat, but didn't sing the whole song, but before everyone knew it, the show was over in 27 minutes...yes, you're seeing that correctly...almost 3 hours of waiting and he was on stage for only 27 minutes...as soon as he was done my sister and I were done and turned around and left. I cussed as I walked down the steps to the cops laughing at me but I couldn't help it because I was really upset that it was a total waste of money, and to make matters worse, it was raining even harder when we left, just showing what kind of a night it really was! After having to put up with obnoxious women (if you want to call them women- my sister and I had other names for them, LOL) jumping up on the stage as well as humping it all night, and fights breaking out in the pit because people being drunk and high, as well as impatient which I couldn't blame them for that, this was definitely a 10th show to remember, and not in a good way! This is one of my favorite venues but the show was far from that! I usually give shows a good rating if I really enjoyed myself but sorry not this time!

Not the show I had hoped for!!

by Msthang1967 on 6/25/10Key Club - Los Angeles

After 4.5 hours of 5 different very young acts who seemed to be barely 18(21+event)...E40 came on stage and gave the crowd 30 minutes of greatness...and then it was OVER! I could not believe it. E40 owes his fans much much more than that. I will likely never pay to see him live again. So disappointed...

    Underwhelming dog & pony show

by Anonymous on 5/9/10Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

Too many opening acts (5), plus the opening acts were not very good. People were throwing drinks on stage b/c they were disappointed in the performance. E-40 didn't come on until 11:30 or later. All his songs were cut short and it was a short set, especially after tolerating all the bad openers.

    40 Water

by edoubleu on 3/16/10Key Club - Los Angeles

I loved the show. My only complaint is his set was relatively short for someone with a catalog that goes back to the early 90s. There were a few songs I was hoping he would perform which he didn't, but he did perform some dope songs I wasn't expecting. Not singles, but those cuts on the album that real fans know because they really listen. Did some material for his knew album which was nice too. Been a fan of Earl since I was 15 and it looks like I will continue to be.

    Really, 40?

by BigSizzGetsP on 8/25/09Galaxy Theatre - Santa Ana

After multiple technical difficulties, eruptions of violence, and straight up lagging from the openers, E-40 hit the stage at 12:20am; almost 4 and a half hours after the start of the show. A lackluster performance in a dingy and not very hospitable venue equals a 2-star rating in my heart.

    Great Show!

by LaFan1 on 8/24/09Galaxy Theatre - Santa Ana

The only down was that the show started at 8:00 pm and E-40 didn't come out until midnight. Other than that, I would definetly recommend it to anyone.
