I really enjoyed the atmosphere, it was a little bit unexpected.

About
Founded in 1957, The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is a professional ensemble serving the residents of Dubuque, Iowa and the surrounding tri-state area. Each year the symphony performs a repertoire of classics, pops, chamber, and opera concerts. The DSO also presents free concerts to over 3,500 students and DSO musicians serve as musical ambassadors in local 4th grade classrooms. The Dubuque Youth Ensembles are a dynamic portion of the DSO’s programs. Over 70 students participate in the Dubuque Youth String Ensemble, Philharmonia, or Dubuque Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Dubuque Symphony Orchestra was fantastic
by Anonymous on 2/18/13Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 4 out of 5The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra marvelously performed Beethoven's 5th. The guest pianist was incredible. It is wonderful to have a gem like the orchestra here in Dubuque.
Great for Kids & Parents!
by fourstarsmom on 12/4/12Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5My husband & I have enjoyed the Dubuque symphony for several years and were excited to take our 4 children to a family-friendly event. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed this mini-concert as much as our 4 year old, and the length was just perfect to keep the kids' attention. The jingle bells that the kids were given to ring were a great idea, and each of our kids had a different favorite part!
Great show!

Dubuque Symphony Orchestra was outstanding
by Deere1 on 11/13/12Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5The orchestra played with energy and talent. It was difficult to understand the conductor's speech, as we were in the upper balcony. We particularly enjoyed the local composer's piece. The seats are not made for tall people!
The Grand Canyon Suite was divine!
by Manilee on 11/13/12Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 4 out of 5What enjoyable concert. Made extra special by the composer of Heartland Poem, James Paulsen being in attendance.
Violinist was Amazing
by FirstTimerDBQ on 2/13/12Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5What a great show. It was my first time with my wife and we will definitely be going back. Perfect event for a night out as you can walk out the door and grab a night cap or something to eat. Great place to watch a show.
Amazing!
by RSpeckle on 12/7/11Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5The Concert was so wonderful! It was the perfect thing to put me in the Christmas spirit. The orchestra was superb and the special guests, two local choirs, a classically trained singer and the Dubuque ballet were a very special treat! Well worth the price!

Butterfly Soared!
by Forehand on 4/12/11Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 4 out of 5Puccini's "Madam Butterfly" set and sung in the Five Flags Theater had its opportunities for great art and for chaos. Certainly the inside-out staging (down to up stage) of monitors, singers, conductor, orchestra was a concession to the difficulties of the hall yet it worked! This was the DSO in its finest hour. The show (Sat) was carried by Madame Pinkerton whose artistry was truly wonderful. Hats off too for Musical Direction by W. Intrilligator who commanded and blended all the elements of a magical performance. The musical artristry level of DSO performances is on the rise.
Madama Butterfly
by Golfers2 on 4/11/11Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5In two words......ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. The players did an excellent job and we were very happy to have the translation shown as the opera progressed.

Instrumental music was complemented very well, by the soloists and the choir. Enjoyed being able to listen to 2 different composers. Nice to have these options in Dubuque!

I thought the concert was good and I do not care for Christmas music
Holiday Pops was well-performed and enjoyable.
by Golfers2 on 12/7/10Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5The "Holiday Pops" was absolutely wonderful. The Mistletones performed to perfection and were very entertaining. We loved the presentation and choice of music and think Dr. Intriligator, besides being an excellent director and conducor, exudes a warm sense of enthusiasm to the audience and made us feel happy to be there. Thank you for a great program!
Outstanding from beginning to end!
by countrygent on 12/6/10Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5A fabulous concert. I loved every minute. The young Dubuque man's original composition was breathtaking!
Mozart Vilin Concerto 5
by Anonymous on 11/9/10Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 4 out of 5Wonderful performance and good selection of pieces. I went with my sons (9 & 11) to expose them a little bit to classical music and I think they liked it.
- by Brassmaster on 10/6/10Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5
The group made a big sound for a rather small ensemble. Intonation was very good through the strings, Low brass played terrific, especially the trombones on the berlioz and the respighi. First trumpet is a nice player-rich tone. Second trombone, too. He had a great sound. Piano player was wonderful-complete command of the instrument. great concert all the way around.
Abbamania
by GrandmaTina on 5/7/10Five Flags Center - DubuqueRating: 5 out of 5What a great evening. It was our 40th Anniversary and so this was a big night out for us including driving from Green Ba to Dubuque. The combination of the Abbamania group along with the Dubuque Symphony was fabulous. It is always fun to attend a concert where you know all the songs. It brings back memories as well as making new ones. The back and forth teasing between the orchestra director and the singers was an added bonus. I hope we have an opportunity to to attend a Dubuque Symphony concert sometime in the future. We would enjoy seeing & hearing Abbamania again.

I thought the talking in between the songs got a little corny and sometimes hard to hear, but the music was amazing and loved the singing. It is great that we have such talented musicians in Dubuque.
