I didnât know what to expect with this show but the reality of what we saw completely blew the doors off of how entertaining I thought a ballet could be. It was thrilling, enthralling, emotional, comical- and more. I wanted to go again the next day. It was the perfect way to mark the Halloween holiday and I would definitely attend next year. Hats off to everyone involved.
The ballet was so good. The man who played Dracula was great! Can wait to see Cinderella there!
Ballet Memphis outdid themselves again. Always a pleasure, and the kept the scare along with the beauty. Loved it!
Dancers did a good job, but correography left a little to be desired. Music too much the same and limited dance variety. Would have liked to see more upbeat music integrated into festival scenes at least.
I am always in awe of how a show with music and dance can say so much without any words.
Incredible! I took my 9 year olds: a daughter and a son. My son was not thrilled because boys made fun of him for going to the ballet. After the first Act my son leaned over and said "those boys don't know what they are talking about". He absolutely love the ballet, sat on the edge of his seat, and said "he was scared for life, but loved it so much." Sometimes, he covered his eyes. He was not scared in the sense of terror; but that the women vampires were so beautiful, sensual, and captivating yet demonic. At first he insisted that all of the people were not dancing but being propelled and moved via ropes and levers. The crazed lunatic was so real in the transformation that my son insisted he was not human. My daughter loved the ballet and I was not surprised. Yet, my son's love of the ballet was not yet developed, "Dracula" changed this. The music, the opera, and the movements moved a boy of 9 to appreciate another form of art. Well done! A must for every October. I have told everyone. One more thing, my children were prepared for this ballet and we had discussed Dracula: The real Count, the history, as well as the fiction character, and watched the movie,. My son never was scared through any of that. The ballet was different because the beauty and sensuality of the music and movements was so counter to the story - it provided an emotional response that could not be found in a book or movie. Riveting. My kids and I are now preparing for the Nutcracker. Reading and listening to the music. Both children can't wait. Exposing my children to Dracula's Creativity and inspiration of Dracula allowed 3 hours of no desire to play mind craft. That is a 5 star performance.
I took my boyfriend and our mothers to see this amazing ballet! Perfectly captivating! There was not a time when we were not entertained.
The Dracula Ballet was beautiful! The dancers were lovely. The theater is a beautiful venue, even with "nose-bleed seats" the view was fantastic
In France ballet is called "Danse Classique". The operating term is "danse". The producers of this ballet seem to have forgotten that the idea is to tell the story through dance. For after two acts I had witnessed less than five miniutes of dance. And pretty unremarkable dance, at that. The story was told almost entirely through mime. I am a long time ballet supporter and I was not expecting the Paris Opera, Boston Ballet or even the ABT. But this was my first, and last, California Ballet experience. One star is too many. How disapointing
A wonderfully dark show that was so theatrical. I was amazed how detailed and true to Brahm Stroker's book this ballet was. Gorgeous costumes, exquisite dancing and some wonderful story telling through stellar dancing. I loved it!
Don't miss the next opportunity to see Ballet San Antonio; one of the best "secrets" of the arts in San Antonio. Beautiful theatre, outstanding dancers, engaging choreography. These performances should be sold out!!!
For dance enthusiasts, this is a bust. There is next to little dancing in the show, some of which, like the gypsy number, was really sub par. If you like posturing and repetitive choreography with a few special effects, you might enjoy the show. We were ready to leave after Act. 2.
Zertuchi's choreography was gripping and primal, eliciting a rare combination of both awe and fear. Well done!
I must admit I went to a dance studio for ballet lesson information for my 9 year old daughter and she saw the flyer. Instantly she asked if we could go and I said why not? I purchased 5 tickets for our family to go and I'm so glad I did. My 3 daughters age 16,13 and 9 loved it. My sister-n-law said when are we going to another one? Dracula was a first time ballet for all of us, but not the last.
dancing between Lucy and Dracula was beautiful and breathtaking. Mina was a beautiful dancer also, but her facial expressions were incongruent and confusing
Our first ballet and we thoroughly enjoyed it! In this case, we knew the plot of Dracula (which was fully summarized in the playbill, as well) so it was easy to follow the storyline. That allowed us to concentrate on the performances and sets. The dancing was excellent--such grace--and the sets were simple and effective. A top notch production overall.
For this being my first ballet, I was very impressed. It was a whole new experience for me and I can really appreciate the art now. The sound was excellent, the dancers were very talented, and the venue was perfect for this show! Can't wait to see another one.
My sisters and Ioved the ballet. We went last year and were so happy when we found out it was coming back again this year. We are ready for next year's performance as well!
I'm 48 years old and this was my first ballet I've ever attended. The performance was brilliant and breathtaking, you ladies and gentlemen did an awesome job. I will be back to see performances in the future. Thank you for such a memorable evening.
