About

Pennsylvanian rockers Dr. Dog represent a blast from the past. Their music has often been compared to acts from long ago, including The Beatles and The Beach Boys, to name a couple. The retro sound of Dr. Dog has resulted in several memorable records in their nearly 15 years of existence, yet like any great band, sometimes their recorded material pales in comparison to their live act. Tickets to see Dr. Dog sell fast since the indie group usually prefers to tour the small club circuit. They have also played major festivals, like Coachella and Treasure Island, too. Dr. Dog skips the theatrics and simply sticks to good music playing live. They're a band that is highly skilled, and they even cut a live album at Google's headquarters in California. They have always jammed with famous psychedelic bands, like My Morning Jacket, in concert. Always a group to present new material, the band released their seventh studio album, called "B-Room," in 2013. The record features "The Truth" and "Broken Heart" and was the first album composed at their new studio in Philadelphia.

Dr. Dog was formed by childhood friends, Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman, as the duo preferred to experiment with lo-fi recordings, including original psychedelic material recorded on eight tracks and other vintage devices. Their first album, "The Psychedelic Swamp," was self-recorded and released in 2001. Dr. Dog became popular along the Philadelphia circuit, yet gained little notoriety outside of it. However, the group continued to write and compose the way they wanted to. This would later lead to a large cult following drawn to their complete DIY approach and indie-mentality, thanks to their tireless promotion on the Internet. "We All Belong," "Fate" and "Shame, Shame" are all classic Dr. Dog studio releases, though the band has also released its fair share of EPs and vinyl.

    Awesome Night with Dr. Dog!

by KyleH21 on 6/26/18Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

Saw Dr. Dog play at Festival Pier 6/23/18. The band was awesome, sound was great, and just about every spot was a good one to see the band perform. However, the drink prices were insanely high ($14 for a Miller Lite!) and the area got pretty dirty and sandy by the time the band got on.

    Bigger and Better

by JRBo987 on 6/26/18Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

As Dr. Dog took the stage at their largest venue yet, they killed it like they always do! They never cease to impress, and the Festival Pier atmosphere and acoustics fit their sound and energy. The crowd joined the vibe, getting down and belting songs throughout the entire show. Philly is lucky to have Dr. Dog call it home.

    Dr Dog Poorly Served

    by RedRover02 on 6/20/18STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

The bag policy especially for women is unacceptable. The sound was too loud (I have enough hearing damage already; yes I wore ear plugs) and the vocals were poor. Dr Dog was great, enjoyed the fog and lighting too.

    A really lovely experience

by lanelisss on 6/20/18STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Dr. Dog put on such a groovy & fun show for us at Stage AE. I was dancing like a lunatic to their well-crafted tunes. Not only was Dr. Dog fantastic, but (Sandy) Alex G actually made this concert one of my favorite I’ve ever been to with his unique energy.

    Pretty Loud Concert

    by Danno91 on 6/12/18Moore Theatre - Seattle

Been to Dr. Dog twice before and they were great concerts. I've also been to the Moore Theater before and sat in upper GA and the volume wasn't an issue. I go to a few concerts a month and this was by far the loudest concert I've been too in my entire life. The sound board needed to check on the upper level to monitor sound quality and volume because it was out of control. Usually wear ear plugs to concerts, but if I didn't have them that night it would of been very uncomfortable.

Good show, but lots of hipsters

by RachelLovesRog on 6/5/18Tabernacle - Atlanta

Dr. Dog put on a great show, but the opener was a bit annoying (I believe they were called Mother). It was also annoying that there was a lot of "VIP" seating that was unused; the ushers would enforce the rules for some people, but wouldn't check tickets for others. Lots of hipsters in the crowd, too. I enjoyed the show, but don't know that I'd see them again at the Tabernacle.

    Dr. Dog was dope

by Girardi on 4/5/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I only knew a few songs of Dr Dog, but made a last minute decision to go to their show at the Ryman. They were amazing and now I just want to go see them again, although the Ryman is hard to beat.
