About

Pennsylvanian rockers Dr. Dog represent a blast from the past. Their music has often been compared to acts from long ago, including The Beatles and The Beach Boys, to name a couple. The retro sound of Dr. Dog has resulted in several memorable records in their nearly 15 years of existence, yet like any great band, sometimes their recorded material pales in comparison to their live act. Tickets to see Dr. Dog sell fast since the indie group usually prefers to tour the small club circuit. They have also played major festivals, like Coachella and Treasure Island, too. Dr. Dog skips the theatrics and simply sticks to good music playing live. They're a band that is highly skilled, and they even cut a live album at Google's headquarters in California. They have always jammed with famous psychedelic bands, like My Morning Jacket, in concert. Always a group to present new material, the band released their seventh studio album, called "B-Room," in 2013. The record features "The Truth" and "Broken Heart" and was the first album composed at their new studio in Philadelphia.

Dr. Dog was formed by childhood friends, Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman, as the duo preferred to experiment with lo-fi recordings, including original psychedelic material recorded on eight tracks and other vintage devices. Their first album, "The Psychedelic Swamp," was self-recorded and released in 2001. Dr. Dog became popular along the Philadelphia circuit, yet gained little notoriety outside of it. However, the group continued to write and compose the way they wanted to. This would later lead to a large cult following drawn to their complete DIY approach and indie-mentality, thanks to their tireless promotion on the Internet. "We All Belong," "Fate" and "Shame, Shame" are all classic Dr. Dog studio releases, though the band has also released its fair share of EPs and vinyl.

    More shakey!

by Marty Car Wash on 9/24/19The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Set lists were great. Would have liked to see Shakey play with dr dog. Sound was a little over blown for the louder songs, I was in then mezzanine so that might have been a factor.

    Sooo goooood

by monagical on 9/24/19The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

I've been waiting almost ten years to see these guys and they did not disappoint. Such a great show, Shakey graves was also incredible as one of the openers. One complaint, vocals were a bit on the quiet side, could've been adjusted a bit better but was still fantastic

Shakey Graves, Dr. Dog and Liz Cooper and The Stampede

by Mountain man on 9/17/19The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

The venue was fantastic. Open air with a fantastic view. The place was clean and comfortable. Shakey was a great showman and they were clearly passionate about preforming. Dr. Dog was clearly a group of dudes who were proud of their music. I was a big fan of the sweater vest. I missed Liz Cooper but I caught part of one of her songs and they sounded pretty rad. Overall great concert.

    Great show and venue

by DHABE on 9/17/19The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

Both Dr. Dog and Shakey Graves were incredible, as expected. Such a great combination of talents for one night. The venue was also fantastic. Besides the view being great, the sound was fantastic, it was easy to get in and out, there were large bathrooms that were clean and had water fountains, and there were several bars that were well-staffed.

Dr. Dog will never be a disappointment

by Kristi on 3/14/19Madison Theater - Covington

The Dr. Dog show in Covington this year was about my 20th time seeing them live. They are a force to be witnessed live. They are the hardest working band I have ever followed, and so humble to boot. The Critical Equation tour this year was amazing. They have truly been on fire this year and, in my opinion, have been performing better than ever. Catch them next time they are in your town! Seriously!

I really liked the show, it was very good. I got nice seats near the front and the venue was very intimate. Both the opener and Dr. Dog were really fun bands. Frank is an absolute legend. Five Stars.
