Gambino is a mastermind

A large projection screen started with stylized titles and visual gags, which segued well into Donald's standup set. His set about 'rules' about after the show was derivative of his interview on the Anytime Show podcast, but still really funny. When he got into his Reggie Bush material, it was a bunch of stuff I hadn't heard before and nobody had mentioned in reviews of previous shows on the tour. This cut in to his LCD Soundsystem guy faux facetime call (which already felt a little dated — I mean, 'Louie'?) and his worth-the-ticket price future self segment. This extended sketch video led straight into his rap show. He did a long set with impressive singing and stamina for being under-the-weather. The live instrumentals, especially the two violins and multiple bass-heavy drums, provided excellent background for the vocals without completely stealing the show. What made me happy is that he did a 4-song encore, claiming Detroit was hype; since other shows on the tour got fewer songs, it makes me proud that the Detroit crowd impressed that hype-ness upon him. In talking with some friends who were at the show, I think there was agreement that we'd all have loved even more of the comedy opener, despite being huge fans of his music.
