Spectacular! The performance is the company's best.
A phenomenal event! Definitely even better than I remember it. The seats were incredible and the performance was pristine. Definitely worth seeing Joffrey perform anything if you can!
I am 46 , took my niecs 15 and my mother 74 - we all were breathless during the 2nd half !!!
The two leads, Victoria Jaiani and Carlos Quenedit, were outstanding. The sets were wonderful and really added to the experience. My expectations were surpassed before intermission, and by the end I was ready to see it all over again. Don't miss this one . . .
What a marvelous ballet. Beautiful dancers and a Don Quixote mime type figure who was brilliant. I didn't quite recognize the scenes of the ballet even though I read the book three times. Maybe more popular scenes would have been more appealing as far as staying true to the story. In one scene there was a Carmen type dancer. I think the Joffrey Ballet represented Spanish themes but not so much Don Quixote's story. I loved the ending.
Without Yumelia Garcia in the lead as Kitri the ballet was luke warm at best. I understand she was injured but to put a corps de ballet performer in a lead position after I flew to Chicago for the week end and spent a small fortune on tickets was irresponsible. There was no comparison between Yumelia's fiesty hispanic beauty, dancing precision and stage presence to the sweet but pale performance of her substitute. Thank God for the beautiful Auditorium Theater and vibrant colorful costuming that saved the night for us. With the normal performers in the lead I would recommend the show as it is quite beautiful and has very challenging choreography.
This was my first ballet! I had so much fun! The costumes, the set, the dancing!!! Wow!!
the ballet was very festive, but a bit old-fashioned for my taste. the middle act (don Quixote's dream) was lovely and inventive, but the 3rd act was overly reminiscent of the 1st. Though the production does not run long, 1st and 3rd acts could be shortened or use some more variety--the show comes off more as a lovely danceathon than telling a story, as the narrative (and humor) is kept largely to vignettes in between dance sequences.
I can't praise this performance highly enough. I'm not a ballet expert but thought the dancing was superb. The sets were ingenious. I would recommend this performance to anyone.
Loved the choreography, the costumes, and the music. Perfection!
It was a magnifecent show, everything from costume to lighting to scenery, but most of all the magnificent choreography and talented dancers.
The way the coreographer designed and implemented the spanish culture and traditions was fantastic. Some scenes remembered me Velazquez paintings like the Drunkers for example.
Great dancing! We were disappointed that Don Quixote never actually danced and a little confused about some of the story despite the details in the program. Enjoyed the costumes and humor. Good use of various mediums (back video to show book images, light acrobatics). Even besides the main dancer, there was lots to observe at all times. *Food and drink should not be let into the theater!*
What more could one ask? The Auditorium Theater in all it's splendor, sets and costumes that evoked the time and place beautifully, theater and dance that were a delight. The dance and choreography were so excellent, from the dramatic moves of the stars to the subtle moves of the corps. A night to remember! Our thanks to all concerned.
Loved how they infused Spanish dance into ballet in the first act. Very colorful costumes.
Gorgeous- fun- young at heart- made me feel great!
I had a fantastic time. It was my first ballet, so I won't pretend to get into the specifics or if the ballet was great on technical standpoints, but I had a fantastic time and would go again.
It was a breath taking two hours. Enjoyed a very movement and every act. I would love to see it again. just a great work of art.
It seemed to have very little to do with Don Quixote and more about the Innkeeper's daughter. I had wondered how it would be interpreted and while the show was very nice, it just did not meet my expectations.
