    Dissapointment

by Abelard on 10/23/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Cervantes bones were bothered that night. Imagine a performance called Don Quixote without a Don Quixote. As a regular audience like us, as a regular novel reader like us the exceptations from a classic is simple like you want to see the main character dancing in the piece. However, this one was so far away from the original. They let us down so badly. The only remarkable point of the performance is the stage designing and the effects. These things weren't able to save the world premiere Don Quixote. Sorry Cervantes and sorry for regular audience.

    Don Quixote Shines

    by Peety99 on 10/22/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Very good ballet with strong dancers. Some acts a little monotonous but a few shine through. Sets and video backgrounds add to Spanish scenes and to the windmill act. A fun time.

Don Quixote enchanted me from the moment it began. I enjoyed watching a ballet with an "obvious" story line, and was amazed at how well the dancers communicated so much through their movements yet still left time for some wonderful dance interludes. The sets and costumes were delightful, and the technology utilized to achieve certain effects was interesting. I particularly liked the windmill scenes. The "comic relief" of some of the characters almost stole the show! I loved all of the characters involved. The music was present at just the right volume to complement the presentation. The only "down" places in the performance were those in which the cast of villagers had to mill about and seemingly "mark time". Hardly a "down"! My daughter and I had a terrible commute into the City that evening for the performance...even had to cancel our dinner reservations due to the tedious traffic! But we both left this delighful performance very, very glad that we had come!

    Superb beyond expectations

by stets on 10/17/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

My first experience watching a ballet performance by a full professional company, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Encouraged to step out after viewing many performances of Billy Elliot, and what a wonderful treat. Attended a lecture by company's artistic director an hour before actual performance and which also included the costume designer. Wow...one has no idea the extent of monies, time, patience, preparation...you name it...which is required to put on such a beautifully executed production...notwithstanding, the exquisite and highly professional artists who have dedicated their lives to be the best in the field of ballet. The music of Don Quixote, the Company's energy, the georgious setting of the Auditorium Theater, the artistry, my goodness, it would seem no one could ask for anything more as an introduction to this form of theater. Indeed, I shall be returning many times in the future to experience this form of classic dance, hoping to be enlightened as much as I was during this Saturday's matinee performance.

A beautifully performed ballet, at a wonderful location. Perhaps the only bad part was the person in the stairwell talking on his phone whose conversation was echoed over the audience during the quieter moments.

    Great Ballet

    by Stryker71 on 10/17/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Excellent ballet! This was my first non-nutcracker ballet and it was very good. The chorogreography and costumes were top notch. The full orchestra played extremely well, great sound to go with the performance. Probably will attend a performance next year, spring.

Every guy should take their wife to this ballet!

by Hutchster on 10/17/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Don Quixote was an excellent ballet. The footwork was superb. The only item I would fix was that sometimes the stage effects (third act) made it impossible to see the dancers footwork. However, overall, one of the best ballets my wife and I have seen so far. Congrats Jeoffery!

best I've seen for a long time!

by xiaxiang on 10/16/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

Carlos Quenedit was great - catch his night! Beautiful and fluid motions, jumps and effortless (it seems) one armed lifts. Alexis Polito was spicy and sexy. Yuri Possokhov's choreography worked well with a 2 hour length, and sticking mostly to the main story.

    energy

by Guernica on 10/16/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

High energy performance but sorely lacking in polish and crispness. There is a very visceral raw energy of youthful vitality but together with that is undeveloped maturity, brilliance and depth of a seasoned company.

    Really timing?

by wowwasthispro on 10/16/11Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

so many errors in regard to timing. Entering and exiting the stage, turns were not crisp. I thought this was good if it was a College dance company.
