About

DMX in Concert

All DMX seems to make is top-selling records, beginning with 1998's It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. Collectively, his first five albums have gone platinum 15 times, and, as of late, DMX has been gracing stages all over the map with a 20th Anniversary Tour of the album that started it all. On stage, little has changed over the past 20 years. His live performances continue to showcase the same unique anthemic style, fierce braggadocio and passionate flair that he's always brought. His uncannily deep, raspy flow's still there, too, along with the highly recognizable grunts and hollers that could only come from DMX. At an April 2019 show at Manhattan's Irving Plaza he teased and toyed with the crowd before dropping his breakthrough single, "Ruff Ryders Anthem," as they roared along with the star.

DMX Background

Born Earl Simmons in Mount Vernon, New York, DMX grew up in Yonkers. As a troubled teen, he found himself wandering the streets late at night and befriending street dogs, spawning a theme that frequently appears in his music (most famously in his first charting single, "For My Dogs"). DMX has released nine studio albums, featuring such guest vocalists as Jay-Z, Cam'ron, Aaliyah and even Patti LaBelle. A father of 15, today DMX is a devout Christian and a deacon in his church. An entertainer at his core, DMX has had leading roles in a number of films, including Romeo Must Die with Jet Li and Exit Wounds with Steven Seagal. He gave what is arguably his marquee performance as Tommy "Buns" Bundy in Hype Williams' 1998 hip-hop epic, Belly.

by Sandy32 on 3/12/14Pharr Events Center - Pharr

We get there by 7pm since that is the time it said doors opened...they ended up opening until 8pm. These random local acts performed for 4 hrs!!!! Horrible music, I had to leave by midnight and found out DMX came out until 12:15!!!! I paid $32 to watch the locals...I will NEVER buy tickets to the Pharr event center EVER!!!!!

Best Rap Concert (Show) I have seen

by Aldz on 9/30/13York, PA - York

Can't believe the energy he had . Can't believe the LOVE the crowd had for him, which seems like it make him go harder. Was a fan of his work before I seen him live, now I'm a true fan.

    X

by Blckgrl on 10/18/12Inner Circle - Cincinnati

Hood venue, hood dude, hood show...loved it!! I'm a fan of DMX and a fan of hip hop so I had a great time! His energy was high, and he moved the crowd. His set list could have been better...he did more of his crossover material and I was really hoping for the rawness of his first two albums to be performed but I get it...it was still cool. If he came back, I'd go see him again...

    DMX

by MissaHere on 7/18/12The National - Richmond

The concert was awesome! Like usual, the main act didn't start until about 11pm but the opening Dj was good. DMX put on a great show. He jumped up on a speaker, poured Hennesey onto the croud, brought my friend up on stage. Overall, pretty sick concert

by Tiffster1306 on 7/17/12Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

The show was awesome. DMX really connected with the audience and made sure we got our monies worth. I will say the opening acts could have stayed home but otherwise, X was well worth the wait!!!!

by mauiblt on 7/17/12Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Although DMX's performance was relatively short.... one of the greatest performers I have ever seen! I would go to see him again in a heartbeat!! He sounds the way you expect him to sound without a lot of manipulation like other artists! High energy and he puts out everything he has for his performance! DMX RULEZ!!!!!!!!! RUFF RYDERS!!!!!!!!!! RIDE OR DIE!!!!!!!!!!

Worst concert I've ever been to

by kymani on 7/10/12Revolution Live - Fort Lauderdale

Partly this was not the fault of DMX...this club told us the concert was 8 and he didn't come on until a little after 12:30. However, it was clear he was also somewhat later than they expected as well. The crowd was pissed and lots of people left. In addition, they kept having "singers" and "DJs" get on stage that weren't worth a darn...the last one was soooo bad people were throwing ice cubes at her head. After waiting 5 hours, this guy came out and sung 4 or 5 songs, mostly ones that weren't well known. The rest of the time was spent telling us his philosophy or jumping around the club and talking to fans. Personally, I go to concerts for live music. Also, he didn't like the way some guy in the audience looked so he had security kick the guy out. This guy waited 5 hours to see him and he paid to see him, and he humiliates him and kicks him out? I seen this guy in concert 13 years ago and I practically worshipped him, now I have to wonder why. I also definitely wont ever go to Revolution Live again.

    on his way back

by RobertVega on 7/10/12Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Overall, DMX put on a great show by interacting with the audience and saying the right things. Although his voice and energy is not the same as it was before. But at some moments he really brought the heat!! DMX was great, needs a little more practice though with the rhyme delivery. But it's understandable, he has been out the game for awhile now. The only reason I put 4 stars is because of the awful club REVOLUTION LIVE money extortion. They promised the show to start at 8pm. DMX came out like at 12:30am. My girlfriend went home way before that. And they did not allow re-entrance. At least they were selling hotdogs by a sweaty "cheff".

by Toeknee89 on 7/8/12Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

obviously the opening acts are inevitable.. they sucked & they really delayed the show.. X was mad late and didn't come on til 1:30 but when he came on it was damn well worth the wait. X killed the show

Would've been nice if he showed up 4 hours earlier

by jillibugc on 7/8/12Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

We stood and waited 5 hours for DMX, only to be disappointed by the sorry DJ's and MC's who took the stage before him. The crowd boo'd everyone into oblivion. My group and I were so upset that we left just as he was coming in. At that point, we were too pissed to go back inside to watch his show. I was a fan, but that is just some major disrespect to people who have been following him for 15 years. I won't ever pay to see him again.

    DMX was Lip Syncing!

by chunkye on 7/5/12The National - Richmond

I was shocked that DMX lip synced the entire concert, and only did like 5 or six songs!

    DMX was sensational!

by MARichVA on 7/5/12The National - Richmond

Overall, this was an amazing show. My only complaint was that he went on around 11:30 pm & the show was over about an hour later.

    DMX

by Sparkleness on 7/4/12Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

I love Dmx. I have beeen a huge fan for many many years. I have to say the concert was dissapointing for me. The opening acts just awful, almost painful to listen to. I have seen dmx before he was only on stage an hour this time. He rapped short versions of songs and did not tell us goodnight. I am seriously his biggest fan and I felt a little unfufullied leaving

    DMX

by mtds on 7/3/12Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

LOVE LOVE LOVE DMX!!! HOPE HE IS ABLE TO COME BACK TO HONOLULU. WOULD LIKE TO SEE AGAIN!! SPECTACULAR! SHOW SEEMED LIKE A REVIEW OF HIS HITS...WOULD LIKE IF HE SANG THE WHOLE SONG, ALTHOUGH MAY TAKE MORE TIME? DMX SHOW SEEMED A LITTLE SHORT? WISHED IT WAS AT LEAST A HALF HOUR LONGER. OPENING ACT WAS GOOD BUT A LITTLE TOO LONG. DMX IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED PERFORMERS. I HADN'T SEEN A SHOW SUCH AS THIS IN A LONG TIME!!! ENJOYED MYSELF SO MUCH!!! HOPE HE COMES BACK NEXT YEAR!!
