The over all show was great... great performance by the orchestra, great music, and great encore.

  • When Distant Worlds Collide

The concert was absolutely amazing! Everything came together so perfectly. The music and the atmosphere was astounding!

  • Absolutely Unbelievable

    by slaughter14 on 9/13/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Totally and completely amazing. I don't know how there can be people in this world who have so much to offer. Makes me feel so fortunate to be able to see such wonderful things.

  • Distant Worlds is simply amazing

    by eys333 on 9/13/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This is my second time attending a Distant Worlds Final Fantasy concert, but I think the LA concert I just went to is the best. Not only were our seats better than I thought, the music is superb, Susan Calloway is amazing singing live, the audience is electrifying and I just love seeing so many Final Fantasy fans coming together to watch DW concerts. Overall, hands down to Nobuo Uematsu and Arnie Roth for another fine performance!

  • Awesome!

by Godd on 9/13/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

I'm going to be as short and concise as possible: Drawbacks: 1) Two different set lists for two different nights 2) the merch lines were ridiculous and no posters (which I think would be one of the best things for them to have given the LBM is so low) 3) the videos could have been much better, but ah well. 4) No chorus for one winged angel Positives: 1) Arnie Roth 2) Set list was solid and "Draco and Maria" was awesome not to mention the One-winged angel finale (black mages would have made it even better) 3) Nobuo in attendance 4) Sakaguchi in attendance (the creator of FF) Overall, awesome night. I would definitely recommend it.

  • Multi talent show!

by FinalFantasyFan on 9/13/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Not only was the music a pleasure to listen to, they also brought out opera singers for one of the songs in Final Fantasy III (U.S. release) where it takes place in an opera house, and presented a small sing along part for the audience to One Winged Angel. It was such a treat and surprise to see the creator of the Final Fantasy series as a guest in the audience. Arnie Roth conducted the orchestra superbly and Nobuo Uematsu participated for a song even! Susan Calloway was a special treat for those deep touching songs like Memories of Life. The people helping out with seating and merchandise were very professional and kind. Compound that with well behaved audience members as well and you get a very enjoyable experience!

  • I could write a book and not praise enough

    by stormysea69 on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The show was an escape from reality and for a moment, we existed in a different world. Only a truly great composer such as Beethoven, Mozart, or Uematsu could accomplish this. There is no need for the game reference to love the music, though a gamer will feel an even deeper meaning. Music like this should be on the radio. Arnie Roth is a true artis as can be felt in his duet with Uematsu. His violin become a living being with a soulful, beautiful voice under his touch. Susan Calloway brings the voice of an angel onstage to add to the evening. Two days have passed and the music still echoes in my mind. It should be n the Radio.

Im not a gamer but I played Final Fantasy VII and X, and Ive always loved the music. It was a great list of songs, the visuals help you remember good stuff, it was perfectly assembled, beautiful and fun. I think the Royce Hall doesn't have the best acoustics for this kind of shows, I love to feel the music when you go to see orchestras, and on the place I was I couldnt get the whole vibe (last seat on the right side, first floor). I had a great time though, I recommend it, and it was great that the composer and one of the designers were there. I took a friend who had never played the games and he enjoyed it a lot too, as long as you like live orchestra music, you'll probably enjoy it!

One of the best concert I have even been. It's pretty amazing

  • Great Show

by albertyouwrong on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Distant Worlds is designed for Final Fantasy fans obviously. Royce Hall looks, feels, and sounds great. The group played well for the most part, but it seemed like some of the soloists either did not practice enough or they simply just zoned out. Errors were not common but it did happen a few times. Even though, the show was great and I'd recommend this to any Final Fantasy music fan.

  • UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE

by Bantori on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This is the best concert I have ever been to! Whether you play final fantasy or not, I am sure you will like their music! JUST absolutely AWESOME!!

  • Distant Worlds remains a nostalgic crowd-pleaser

by Anonymous on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I felt lucky to have attended this concert as both Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu were in attendance, as well as part of the Square Enix team, all of whom received standing ovations. The sound quality was clear and beautiful in a very cozy setting. The San Diego Philharmonic gave a seemingly effortless performance. Wonderful venue! Wonderful show!

  • Distant Worlds is designed for Fans

by NerdJY on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The single disappointment is that the presentation is split between two days; therefore, a person must purchase two tickets to attend two different nights in order to see the entire presentation. Other than that, everything is wonderful. It is my understanding that for each town the concert has differing surprises. I saw this feature in Los Angeles, where in which the surprises included: three opera singers adapting into English the opera of Final Fantasy 6; a beautiful singer doing three English adaptations of songs from Final Fantasy 8, 9, and 12; Nobuo Uematsu, the original composer, joining the on-stage orchestra for a rendition of Dark World from Final Fantasy 4; the on-stage composer leading the audience as we all sang the Sephiroth song together; and there was much more. The merchandise price was about what is expected: $20 to $30 for shirts, CDs, and DVDs. The venue, UCLA Royce Hall, was excellent and comfortable. The presenters for the night were funny and, most importantly, they were genuinely in love with the Final Fantasy music. The music itself was incredible; it was performed by the San Diego Symphonic Orchestra. All and all it was an unforgettable night.

Wonderful orchestra! Nobuo Uematsu's appearance, as well as the original Final Fantasy creator's, made the evening much more eventful and unforgettable. Love the audience participation at the end for "one winged angel." Royce hall is incredible!

  • by Anonymous on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first concert I went to, and I'm glad I did! Knowing the songs and games mentioned are a big plus, but it's still amazing even with no prior knowledge! Every song was amazing, and the singing was great too! Anyone looking for a good time, especially if you're interested in Final Fantasy, should attend at least once!

  • by tembles on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second Distant Worlds concert; both were unforgettable. The orchestra was fabulous as were the vocalists. Nobuo and Arnie even played!

  • Absolutely magical!

by MoonSerenade on 9/12/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The evening was perfect in every way - from the moment the first note was given wings and soared towards the ceiling, I was spellbound. The orchestra did such an amazing job and to actually be in the same room as Nobuo Uematsu and Hironobu Sakaguchi was a true privilege. Arnie Roth guided us gently (and often humorously) through the program and I loved every second of it. Thank you so much for an experience I will never forget.
