  • Awesome show

by wolffenstein on 8/27/12Ohio Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

As always the orchestra Arnie Roth conducts for these events was great. It was cool to see Nobou in person. This was the 3rd or fourth one of these I've been too and I will keep buying tickets when Distant Worlds comes somewhere nearby. Only complaint was that there was no choir but it is hard to justify having one for only 1 or 2 songs especially in a smaller theatre like this.

THE BEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN. Hearing all of those songs live and performed by an orchestra brought back many memories. I remember listening to those songs over and over again throughout my childhood and i still listen to them today. I'm a huge fan of the piano collections for FF8 & 9.

  • amazing show!

Awesome show! only problem was the first song "Prelude" they didnt have the speakers on very loud and it was hard to hear.... but they realized it was too low and upped it for the rest of the concert. Video went well with the concert

  • Wonderful show

I'm a veteran of the Final Fantasy series growing up, and this was everything I dreamed of and then some. We had perfect seats in the middle of the mezzanine. I really don't think there's many bad seats in the place though, the event centre is a very nice setup. The setlist was really solid. Sure there's songs I would have liked to have heard, and they did do 4 songs from FF8 (maybe one too many), and I would have liked them to play the FF1-3 medley that they've done in the past, but overall there was a great variety, with one track each from FF4, 5, 9, 10, 11, and 13, 3 tracks from 6 and 7, and 4 from 8, along with the crystal theme and chocobo theme which are kind of all-inclusive. Nobuo Uematsu was in the building as well, and he played the keyboard in the FF6 tune "Dark World", with the conducter playing lead violin. It was a wonderful arrangement, even though I'm not a huge fan of that particular song. And even though One Winged Angel is overused these days in the FF universe, its still a special feeling getting to hear that song Live to end the show. The sound quality in the arena was great, and the video clips on the projector screen were great as well and made us filled with nostalgia. This event is highly recommended if you grew up playing any Final Fantasy games and thought "Damn this music is pretty good". it's also recommended even if you're just a fan of good orchestral music, as you will find enjoyment here. I'm thrilled that a market for a tour like this exists, as I'm a big music/orchestra buff myself, and also a big FF fan. Loved it, and will definitely keep an eye on future tour dates!

The only thing that could make this a 5-star was if Dancing Mad was played both nights!

  • Distant Worlds is a must

I'm a long time fan of the series, since I was 5 years old. So I'm biased, and gave it five stars even though there were some flaws with the performance. The video editing needs a massive overhaul. Considering how well known Square is for their visuals, the video that plays with the music comes off very amateurish and mediocre. The organist also needed more practice. During the performance of Dancing Mad, there were so many mistakes, both rhythmic and melodic, that were pretty embarrassing. Still, had a blast, and would strongly recommend it to others.

Nobuo Uematsu is a master at this music stuff and I enjoyed every moment of it, and Mr. Roth conducted a spectacular performance! If Distant Worlds comes back to LA, I am definitely going back!

  • One of my favorite concerts to attend!

by Oirazan on 9/16/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

With a constantly expanding repertoire of musical pieces, Distant Worlds is a must see for any fan of the Final Fantasy series. Even someone who's never played a Final Fantasy game before can appreciate the beauty and emotion that Nobuo Uematsu puts into every piece of music he writes. Sidenote: Arnie Roth can play a mean violin!

As expected, Distant Worlds put on an amazing show. I look forward to their next L.A. performance!

  • Distant Worlds really took me there

by Pootymcspooty on 9/15/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing! Not only was the composer Nobuo Uematsu there but the Creator of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi was there as well. They managed to turn one of my favorite musical numbers into a sing along effectively making the full theatre into a giant choir to sing One Winged Angel for the Encore, and it sounded amazing! If you are a fan of Final Fantasy and you get a chance to go see the show I highly suggest you do it. It was an incredible experience I will never forget.

  • A must see for every Final Fantasy Fan

by SakuraPetals on 9/15/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The night was awesome and unforgettable. My husband and I decided to spend the extra money for the VIP tickets for the meet and greet. The view from our seats up close was mediocre. The meet and greet was a little disappointing since there were so many people for Arie Roth, Susan Calloway, & Nobuo Uematsu to go through that I didn't get as much time as I thought to briefly talk to them. But at least I got the signature from Nobuo Uematsu.

  • WOW, unbelievable!

by wqxhouse on 9/15/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I'm a big fan of final fantasy. It was an accident that I get to know this event and at that time I was not in US. Actually, several hours after my arrival to US, I got to attend this event, because I just wanna see Nobuo Uematsu, the spirit engineer behind the master series. And well, I cannot find proper words for the performance; for amazing, awesome, brilliant is too simple to describe it. I cried for its beauty and I deem all the audience did. As a student, I spent $100+ for its CDs Booklets, shirt; it sounds crazy, and yes it does, because I want to find my soul in the mellifluous melody.

  • Distant Worlds was amazing!!

by Ramarock on 9/14/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I was hesitant on getting the meet & greet tickets but it was worth it. It has been a good 5-6 years since Distant Worlds came to Los Angeles, CA. So I said why not. Getting to sit so close, meeting Arnie Roth and Nobuo Uematsu after the show was over left me smiling from ear to ear the entire time. I believe anyone who enjoys Nobuo Uematsu's music has to at least go once to see and listen. Hearing it live was an incredible experience.

  • Distant Worlds is Amazing

    by RosenRakuen1 on 9/14/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The venue suited the orchestra very well. I would argue that no one had a bad view of the stage and big screen that displayed suiting video to each of the songs played. The sound was top-notch and the music was simply stirring and entrancing. The concert didn't have anything fancy in terms of effects (just a big screen for projections) but I believe Distant Worlds is one of the best, if not the best, tributes to the music of the amazing FINAL FANTASY series. That both Nobuo Uematsu and series creator attended made the night even more magical.
