This concert was out of this world! Actually having Nobuo Uematsu there was priceless. And having the audience sing 'One Winged Angel' for the encore, simply awesome.

A nice relaxing show with plenty of nostalgia. I would not recommend this to anyone except Final Fantasy veterans and open minded musicians. Anyone that hasn't played through titles prior to FF X may be missing some of the nostalgia. Beautiful compositions otherwise.

  • Always amazing!!

This was my fourth concert and they were all amazing.

  • Amazing show by Mr. Roth and Uematsu!!!

by Sesusama on 8/28/12Ohio Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I am so glad I traveled for this event. The theater it took place in was beautiful. The selection of music played was from the entire series. At least one song from each main Final Fantasy title was played. Even the games Uematsu didn't compose the music for. Uematsu also got on stage to play the keyboard during "Dark World(FF VI)" and displayed very humorous Que cards during the finale(which was amazing). Not a single song failed to conjure nostalgic memories of the best kind. I have wanted to attend this event for years, and it was finally close enough I could. If you ever get the chance to attend and are a fan of the Final Fantasy series, you must! You won't regret it!

  • Amazing concert. Too short!

by OhioGamer on 8/28/12Ohio Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first time at a Distant Worlds concert and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The music was great. The conductor did a good job of interjecting some interesting dialogue in between songs. Nobuo Uematsu, the composer of most of the Final Fantasy music, was in attendance and it was interesting to see how shy he apparently is. My two biggest complaints were with the price of tickets (a bit too high), and with the video that played during the music. There was a large projection screen set up to show some visuals (usually scenes from Final Fantasy games) throughout the concert. Some of these were poorly done and added nothing while distracting from the music. I wouldn't get rid of this video, but it needs to be redone.

  • Se-phi-roth!!!

Electrifying, Surreal, Amazing! There is nothing like experiencing music that you love and that has been apart of your life for some time. The venue was perfect for this show and I would love to see it again wherever it may be. If you are a huge fan or just starting to become a fan of Final Fantasy, you have to experience this in person. Recordings/videos just does not do it justice. It was great to see Nobuo Uematsu on stage, in person and interacting with the crowd with just great enthusiasm. Sorry about the no pasta and pizza Nobou :( For those who were there will understand.

  • FF Fans Rejoice!

Absolutely amazing if you grew up playing and loving these games. Every new song and new video came with strong nostalgic feelings. I would recommend to anyone who loved the games or just enjoys great music performed by great musicians.

  • A memory forever

Simply amazing. Anyone who likes video game music and/or Final Fantasy music is doing themselves a huge disservice by not experiencing this concert if it comes to a city near them. Arnie Roth and Nobou Uematsu have teamed up to great effect. I love how they interacted with the audience throughout the show, which culminated with the audience singing along during the encore song (yes, "Sephiroth"). Each song has video on screen edited together from the source game, and I have to say it really brings out the feelings, memories and nostalgia for each game. The video that was put together for "Chocobo Swing" was hilarious and awesome, and surprisingly made it one of my favorite pieces in the set list. When they played Terra's theme at the end, they showed the scene from FF6 where the credits roll as the 3 Magitech Armors walk across the snowy plains towards Narsche, except instead they replaced the credits with credits for the Distant Worlds concert. Brilliant. Finally, I have to say I was super impressed with the Opera song from FF6 being performed with actual operatic singers and being played through all of its movements for a length of about 11 minutes! Arnie even hinted that they're going to extend it further to include the fight scene that interrupts the opera. Wow, that would be fantastic. You can tell they know what the fans want. TL;DR: Great show: go!

This was my first time seeing Distant Worlds and I'm already planning on seeing them again. It's well worth the ticket price!

  • Mindblowing

For the first half of the show I had to hold back tears. The show was phenomenal and I would say this was the best money I had ever spent in my entire life. Nobuo Uematsu-san was present for the concert and played a duet with the conductor. I would probably even go so far as to say that attending this concert was a life changing event.

  • Distant Worlds in Columbus

This was our second show. We saw the first concert at the Wolftrap outside of DC a couple of years ago. Both shows were excellent and well worth the drives from Philly. Conductor Roth and Composer Uematsu are an extraordinary team, showcasing the beauty of these musical pieces. We cannot wait for the Chicago Celebration in December! (Note: you do not have to be a fan of the Final Fantasy series; you just need an appreciation of great orchestral music. Along the way you might just become a fan...)

Everything was wonderful. The audience was rapt and appreciative. The conductor was VERY personable and great with the audience. We were SO honored to have the composer among us as well.

Absolutely fantastic show. Would love to see it again!

  • Distant Worlds was amazing

by Cruxisv on 8/27/12Ohio Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent performance by a talented orchestra, with the special treat of Nobuo Uematsu playing keyboard for one of the pieces from Final Fantasy VI. Excellent set list and performance, and great crowd participation! I think my only real issue with the show was their seemed to be issues with the playing Clash on the Big Bridge. I know that it's an insanely difficult song to play given its speed, it just felt like they rehearsed everything else a lot more. Not to say it was bad, it was the song I was looking forward to the most. Everything else was rock solid, jaw dropping, and tear jerking in many places, and it was definitely worth the 3.5 hour trip to see it. Would definitely go to see it again, and am contemplating making the drive to Chicago for the 25th anniversary edition.

  • Incredible performance

    by Klee318 on 8/27/12Ohio Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Distant Worlds put on an absolutely incredible show. We were stunned at the atmosphere of the gorgeous Ohio Theatre in Columbus, and they even brought in some of the song artists from the games as a surprise to sing a few songs. Nobuo Uematsu was humble, charming, and gracious every time he appeared on stage, and even agreed to perform in one song with the conductor. My friend, who is a longtime FF fan, was in heaven--he was grinning ear-to-ear the entire show, and said it was one of the most memorable days in his life. Even as a newcomer to the genre myself, I still loved the music and appreciated the video clips playing on the screen so newbies and fans alike could follow the music. Overall, I would highly recommend this show to anyone interested!

  • Geeks with classical taste!

Wonderful crowd and conductor. It's very rare to see this in Ohio and it was everything I imagined!

  • Incredible execution of Uematsu's Brilliance!!

    by Strbcks241 on 8/27/12Ohio Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The Ohio Theatre was gorgeous, the orchestra was amazing, and Nobuo Uematsu was in attendance. I wish that the vocalists from the opera would have joined in for the encore of One Winged Angel, but it was great nonetheless.

Simply the greatest concert experience I've ever had. The music was beautiful, the line-up played was great, and just - I can't have imagined anything being any better. I had a great time and I would go again if I had the opportunity.
