The seating at the Landmark is very uncomfortable with no leg room.
So, this performance is pretty true to the movie, almost line by line. So that's great if you're a fan of the movie. There are added vignettes to flesh out events happening at the time that come off as clunky and partly misplaced, but overall they're not too distracting. Before you see this, remind yourself: nothing will be the original, so don't go in expecting that same chemistry and that same acting. If you're hoping for Swayze/Grey you don't get it, but you'll get a great performance with new actors - even if it did take Baby & Johnny til the second act to make me melt <3
The show was wonderful. The casting was great and as always the dancing was amazing. The theater seating is poor. I’ve been several times and purchased balcony and floor seats and have been very disappointed with the view and how hot and stuffy it gets in there!!
Making a musical stage production from an existing popular motion picture can be very disappointing. In this case it certainly was. While the music, dancing and singing throughout the production were top-notch, the acting and dialogue were not, leaving me with the feeling I was watching a mediocre high school production. Also, at 2 hours 20 minutes plus a 20 minute intermission the production was too long . It could have been cut down to under 2 hours which might have improved the dialogue and the action. The minimal stage set worked well with scene changes being performed seamlessly and without intruding with the flow of the production.
It was a fun event! Only one problem when a microphone went out on "Johnny" .
Outstanding singing and dancing that stayed true to the original.!
Did not enjoy, could not compare to other shows at same venue
What a great musical and dancing adventure back to movie from the eighties that I so enjoyed.
First, the dancing was excellent. Both of the main singers had excellent voices and really knock out the final duet, Time of My Life which literally had the crowd roaring. Costumes were very period made with the vivid colors of the 50's and early 60's. The Binghamton area is in the foothills of the Catskills and many of the audience remember the Borscht Belt days when the resorts in the Catskills where filled with customers much like in the show. The musical followed that premise very well and hit a sad but true note when the owner exclaimed his thoughts about that style of vacation entertainment slowing fading away. Nothing better than a live show when it is well done such at this one was. If you can see it, do.
Dirt Dancing was the best show i have ever seen. They did outstanding job!!
If it weren't for the beautiful and talented male lead, Johnny, I would have left as the long dreary summer in the "Catskill resort" painfully unfolded. It was choppy and dragged, at least punctuated with some good dancing. The good dancers should have been showcased more without the chaos on the stage. Clearly this show was not meant for the stage; a dance review would have sufficed. The movie is a hard act to follow.
Overall I enjoyed the show because the dancing was great, especially the male & female lead dancers. The script does not lend itself to a stage production. The sets just don't make it. Much better as a movie. It felt very choppy with short lines of dialogue and people coming on and going off stage very quickly. There was lots of high energy and the lead singers were very good. The music is fun and brings back good memories of that time in the 60's.
One of the best shows I have seen. Enjoyed it from beginning to end. The cast were all amazing. I would highly recommend this event to everyone. Keep up the excellent work.
An absolutely amazing show! I would watch again in a heartbeat! I had a smile on my face the whole time! I wish they recorded it and made it into a dvd because I would definitely buy and watch over and over again!!!
For Dirty Dancing fans only! Fantastic show. Great music, dancing, singing, very true to the movie plot. Scenery was adequate to tell the story. Penny is about the sexiest woman on stage I have ever seen! I wish I'd had a closer seat. For true fans of the movie, it's almost like you're watching the filming of the movie; it's that close to the plot.
Wow!! This performance was incredible! Great energy and even brought some tears to our eyes!! Please see this if it's near You!
Play was amazing. Dancing, singing, and acting were great.
I bought my wife and I front row tickets to see this. We, once a year, visit mountain lake lodge for a vacation, but also get to be a small part of the history of this iconic movie. We both know most of the words and expect any and all “remakes” to match the original. Everyone has fell short up until we saw this performance. The cast was absolutely amazing and we were not disappointed at all. This was truely a great time and was awesome to see on stage. The cast and crew were top notch performers. From someone that had very high expectations, I would pay to see this show again. They NAILED IT!
We loved this show. A great remake of our favorite movie!
