Melbourne International Jazz Festival presents

Dianne Reeves

Hailed as jazz’s greatest living vocalist, the incomparable Dianne Reeves will bring the 2017 Melbourne International Jazz Festival to an unforgettable close with an evening of sophisticated and deeply soulful song. The most awarded female jazz vocalist of all time, among her accolades are a string of Grammy Awards, including an unprecedented three consecutive awards for Best Jazz Vocal Performance.

A musician with a gift for imbuing any performance space with the intimacy of a living room, Reeves was born into a musical family (George Duke was her cousin and frequent longtime collaborator). She toured with Sergio Mendes and Harry Belafonte in the 80s before launching her own stellar solo career by using jazz as a ‘passport’ to other styles, including latin, African, reggae, r&b, blues, and pop classics.

With her intoxicating stage presence, captivating voice and improvisational virtuosity, Dianne Reeves is a natural wonder not to be missed. Her highly anticipated return to Melbourne promises to be nothing short of legendary.

Concert was stellar. Reeves' voice was flawless. Great energy and rapport with her musicians and audience. While it was my first experience witnessing her in live performance, it certainly won't be my last.

  • Spectacular Show!

by PadreJim on 3/27/11Gem Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

After a warm welcome by the staff and volunteers, we took our seats in the Gem Theater. Diane Reeves began to perform and seemingly in just a few moments took a break - an hour had flown by with vocalizations that tickled the ears and soothed the soul. Her band was stellar, her performance spectacular, the experience was an absolute delight. Even though it is hard to believe, the second half was equal to if not superior to the first. With unfailing energy and emotion, Ms Reeves provided an evening of incomparable entertainment. If you have the chance to see it, don's miss seeing Ms. Reeves perform!

  • Diana - Goddess of Jazz

by SavannahDream on 3/21/11Ritz Theatre - JacksonvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Reeves was, as always, in great voice. She connected with the crowd, allowed her wonderful quartet to showcase their talents and weaved her tales into her songs. I love to listen to her scat - she does it better than anyone alive today. I'd go see her any time and any where but in the intimacy of the Ritz Theatre, she was truly perfect.

  • Dianne Reeves is superb

by Mmgr on 3/21/11Ritz Theatre - JacksonvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Those of us lucky enough to be at the Ritz Theatre witnessed a superb performance by one of the finest jazz vocalists ever. She owns her genre. Dianne Reeves took command of the stage from the first note and had her audience begging for more after a non-stop 90 minute show. Her vocal range is amazing as are her creativity and playfulness with the tunes in her set. She has come into her own over the past five years. Talk about a fully realized woman. Wow! We can't wait to see her again.

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Ms. Diane! The lady is remarkable! She looked lovely in her gray, black and silver. She has a smile that could warm up the entire world. Her voice, her voice was simply amazing. She makes singing look so effortless. From the time her wonderful band came on the stage until the time they made there final exist they had the crowd lingering on each and every note they played and sang. Not only did I enjoy her wonderful voice, but her joyful spriit and her charming story telling was also entertaining. I can't wait for her return at the Hollywood Bowl. It's a shame she doesn't come to LA more often. Me and my husband would attend every show.

Reeves gave a fabulous performance, as usual. Longer than other dates she has had in LA. She showed her wide range and versatility to the great pleasure of the audience.

  • Classic and elegant

by sockhop on 3/15/10Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

I went to see Dianne Reeves at the Luckman Theater on the northern campus of CSULA. Very nice venue. The seats were great, the setting was warm. The band was very tight. Then the Lady appreared on stage. The title of "The Lady " is not used lightly. Given to women that have acheived something unique, classic. timeless and elegant. Dianne grabbed the audience within 3 minutes of being on stage. Her voice, superbly unique was at its best and it filled the room. She and the band did an encore. Waiting in anticipation, knowing that she would sing one or two more songs, I was hoping for and shouting out for her to sing my favorite Dianne Reeves song: "I Remember Sky". She chose to sing another one of her signature songs, Better Days. I loved it.

I saw Dianne Reeves at Berklee and she was more than wonderful. With only two guitar players, who might I add were brilliant, she brought the house down. I love this woman. If you have never seen Dianne live you NEED to.

The stage setting was eye catching. Dianne was sitting down beside table with a beautiful arrangement of flowers. The two guitar players were sensational and blended beautifully with Dianne's vocals.

  • The Queen of Jazz

    by Tony6869 on 10/24/09Berklee Performance Center - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Everyone who attended the Diane Reeves peformance last night (her birthday), was part of a magnificant performance and one of the best performances I have ever heard! This is the first time that I have heard Ms. Reeves in concert and I understand why she is a four-time Grammy winner. As GREAT as she was, the two guitarists (Russell Malone & Romero Lubambo) were equally amazing! The guitar solos by Russell Malone were worth the price of admission. Do not ever miss the chance to see her in person. It's an event that you will never forget!

An absolutely stunning evening. She has an incredible voice with an amazing range. We'd attend another Dianne Reeves concert in a heart beat. Both guitarists, Russell Malone and Romero Lubambo are outstanding musicians. We're looking forward to getting their CDs.
