Melbourne International Jazz Festival presents

Dianne Reeves

Hailed as jazz’s greatest living vocalist, the incomparable Dianne Reeves will bring the 2017 Melbourne International Jazz Festival to an unforgettable close with an evening of sophisticated and deeply soulful song. The most awarded female jazz vocalist of all time, among her accolades are a string of Grammy Awards, including an unprecedented three consecutive awards for Best Jazz Vocal Performance.

A musician with a gift for imbuing any performance space with the intimacy of a living room, Reeves was born into a musical family (George Duke was her cousin and frequent longtime collaborator). She toured with Sergio Mendes and Harry Belafonte in the 80s before launching her own stellar solo career by using jazz as a ‘passport’ to other styles, including latin, African, reggae, r&b, blues, and pop classics.

With her intoxicating stage presence, captivating voice and improvisational virtuosity, Dianne Reeves is a natural wonder not to be missed. Her highly anticipated return to Melbourne promises to be nothing short of legendary.

  • The sooth sounds of Dianne Reeves was perfect!!!

by Anonymous on 7/20/14Cain Park - Cleveland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

What a perfect end to the work day Dianne Reeves was. She stepped on the stage dressed in violet and peridot green, looking as cool and fresh as the summer breeze. Her voice was warmed and ready. I should say her instrument was ready as anyone who has heard Dianne knows, she uses her vocal cords to interpret strings, bass, horns...it's incredible! As an artist, she is gracious and humble. She improvised with the young opening group, and brought tears yo my eyes. Dianne ended the evening of storytelling and song with her signature, 'Better Days'. I can't wait to see Dianne Reeves again, but as the song goes, I've got to 'be patient'.

To see so many great artists perform at one was truly azmaing. My only regret was I would have preferred to hear some of the great hits from each of the individual artists.

This being my second James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival and coming up to NJPAC from Bermuda this was a festival not to miss the right balance of entertainment with the featured guest my congradulations to music host Christian McBride and his big band.and all the other act. I also enjoyed Friday evenings acts of Jazz Meets Samba i am looking forward to next years 2014 Festival and hope you will continue to encourage the young musicians to follow in the masters foot steps SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.

  • SING SWING SING! Was Amazing!

by BYREQUESTJMR on 11/12/13New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Dianne Reeves is the consummate vocalist and entertainer. School is ALWAYS in session when she is involved! Ms. Reeves, command of the stage, musicians and audience merely by opening her mouth is an experience to behold! Brava!! She looked beautiful on top of all of that! Jeffrey Osborne is sooooo underrated! From the second he opened his mouth to sing, it was magical! His voice is smooth ,powerful and seductive all at the same time. He brought the entire theatre alive when he treated us to "Back In Love Again", one of his classic r& b hits. awesome performance! Christian McBride and his FANTABULOUS ORCHESTRA were also magnificent both accompanying artists and on their own. There were several stellar solos from the musicians. Mr. McBride plays that upright and electric bass like nobody's business! Woo-Hoo! There were other very nice performances as well. I Always Love coming to N.J.P.A.C.. It is an absolutely gorgeous, regal, well maintained and run theatre. A perfect place to hear and see my favorite artists! Well Worth the drive and tolls from the Bronx!

Enjoyed the show immensely. Kudos to the band, simply magical sounds, all talented instrumentalists. I could have listened all night to Dianne Reeves. what a voice and what control. She is a consummate performer . Quite realxing and enjoyable. Wished the show could have been longer. Wanted to hear some more from Jeffery Osbourne. I thought at the end we would have had a chance to hear all performers doing a piece together. Wouldnt that have been spectular.

I went to this concert since my husband always wanted to see Al J. I'm really not a fan of Jazz-- until this show. I enjoyed the music and singing so much. It was a great evening which opened my appetite to Jazz!

  • by Shoea on 4/15/13Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

OMG! What a treat. Diane's voice is simply spectacular. And to see and hear her with the Luckman Jazz Orchestra. That was a pleasent surprise. I thought they did a marvalous job, they complainted each other. The conductor was funny. It was a very enjoyable evening, I hope for all. If tickets went on sell today, I'd be the first in line to purchase one.

Fabulous concert, although the venue left something to be desired. We were in the balcony, and there was a constant motor running throughout the performance that sounded like the air conditioner. Really annoying. The acoustics were great, but the motor running detracted from an otherwise fabulous performance.

  • Dianne Reeves has a powerful voice.

    by tbird20009 on 6/5/12Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Effortlessly Dianne Reeves was able to communicate with the audience. Although I did not hear her upper ranges ( soprano) like I have heard from her in the past, she seems to have gotten very comfortable with an audience. She communicated love, family experiences, romantic disappointments and joy effortlessly with her performance. On another note I discovered the Howard theater is a dinner theater which was a surprise for me. The acoustics there are good and for that reason alone I will return from time to time and see other performers. I shared a table with some other very friendly persons who also enjoyed the concert.

  • YES SHE'S AMAZING

by VeezBlues on 5/4/11U.C. Riverside - RiversideRating: 5 out of 5

Dianne Reeves voice is a pure instrument. Her band members are musicians that master their instruments. All of them together are truly entertaining. Dianne Reeves seemed to enjoy singing to us. We had a great time. I highly recommend her concert.

The voice is flawless, captivating and unique in it's power, range and tonality! The band were craftmen in musicianship! This is a show that could go back to the next day and truely be knocked out by it....again!!

  • Reeves was perfect

This was about as perfect of a concert as any vocal jazz lover would expect.
