Melbourne International Jazz Festival presents

Dianne Reeves

Hailed as jazz’s greatest living vocalist, the incomparable Dianne Reeves will bring the 2017 Melbourne International Jazz Festival to an unforgettable close with an evening of sophisticated and deeply soulful song. The most awarded female jazz vocalist of all time, among her accolades are a string of Grammy Awards, including an unprecedented three consecutive awards for Best Jazz Vocal Performance.

A musician with a gift for imbuing any performance space with the intimacy of a living room, Reeves was born into a musical family (George Duke was her cousin and frequent longtime collaborator). She toured with Sergio Mendes and Harry Belafonte in the 80s before launching her own stellar solo career by using jazz as a ‘passport’ to other styles, including latin, African, reggae, r&b, blues, and pop classics.

With her intoxicating stage presence, captivating voice and improvisational virtuosity, Dianne Reeves is a natural wonder not to be missed. Her highly anticipated return to Melbourne promises to be nothing short of legendary.

I try to catch Ms. Reeves whenever she's performing in the L.A. area. Her voice is so full and her range is dynamic. It doesn't matter what she sings, I am mesmerized by her natural talent. I wish she was my aunt so I could visit with her and just hear her stories and hang out. :-)

I've seen Dianne Reeves Perform at DC's Howard Theatre and recently in Baton Rogue and she was phenomenal both times. She was so riveting I was disappointed when the show ended. Dianne does not disappoint. Her vocal skills and acrobats are jaw dropping. I drove 4 hours to see her perform. Her trio was superb and the musical director Peter Martin smoked the Steinway! The Baton Rogue Symphony Orchestra was awesome as well.

Dianne Reeves is in a class all by herself with her magnificent vocals and amazing instrumentation, she simply mesmerizes from start to finish with her presentation. We thoroughly enjoyed her masterful show and of course the perfect acoustics in Royce Hall added an extra element of perfection. Enjoy her every time we get the opportunity.

Reeves is a heartwarming, amazing performer with a voice of liquid gold. The Carver was a wonderful venue for her; she treated the audience as family, entertaining with sing and story. She was like a favorite cousin come to visit for the holidays. And her band was tight. Definitely an enjoyable experience.
