DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Disappointing

    by G. N. on 2/18/23Rating: 2 out of 5

She didn’t sing or play piano as much as had her band play long solos. The concert was boring and disappointing. I’ve waited 15 years to see her live. I don’t even enjoy listening to her music anymore. Too bad. Not worth the $ we paid.

  • Show in Lansing Michigan.

As a two-year postponement it finally happened! My daughter gifted me to front row tickets I could not be happier! First time ever seen Diana Krall! Let me just say it will not be the last! What an amazing performance!

  • True musicians ~

by Kara on 11/4/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

This whole group was there because they LOVE their "work"! Solid musicians with heart and soul in every measure. If one expected something flashy, they woulda known better than to go to Diana Krall. If one was disappointed because "they" weren't entertained (yes, I've read the bad ratings), then shame on you. Classic ~ Classic Diana Krall and jazz. Loved it!

  • It was terrible - I was concerned that Diana Krall was ill

by H. K. on 10/26/22Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San AntonioRating: 2 out of 5

Everything was off. It seemed very short and very formulaic/robotic. Almost monotone... the bass player was entertaining and far out shadowed Ms. Krall. I later heard a rumor that there were two medical doctors posted backstage. I had such high expectations, but it was an OFF night. A costly OFF night. :-(

  • Disappointed

by DK on 10/20/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

Came to see/hear Diana Krall and she was hardly there. The guitarist was featured much more than her and his ‘music’ was nothing like we came to expect from Diana Krall playlists. It was painful and extremely disappointing to sit through. She totally abdicated the show. Couldn’t leave soon enough.

  • Terrible concert

by Laurie T on 10/20/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 1 out of 5

I’ve loved listening to Diana Krall for years and was so looking forward to her concert. Huge disappointment. She sang very few songs and even then, only portions of songs. Most time was spent listening to her band play. She seemed fidgety and disconnected from audience. As the concert progressed, she slurred her words more and more and her singing was barely intelligible. Will never attend another Diana Krall concert. Total waste of money.

  • Almost Perfect!

by American Believer on 10/20/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

From the time they walked on stage until they left we were breathless. The talent on stage was nothing short of phenomenal. Drums, fabulous, guitar, awesome, Bass, incredible. Diana Krall, overwhelming. Our only wish would have been for more of Ms. Krall and fewer solos by the ensemble. The entire night was magical.

  • Beautiful voice boring recital.

Great entertainment while dining at an expensive restaurant with my wife.

  • Thrilled

by Deb on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Such talented musicians. Diana’s voice is beautiful. Only suggestion is that she turn to face the audience more. My seats were center orchestra and we only saw her side and hair covered her face.

  • Enjoyable Evening

by Diane on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

I gave my husband these tickets for his birthday. We arrived early and used handicap parking which was very helpful We have seen Diana Stall before and each time she gives her best with each performance, as well as her her accompanying artists. An hour and a half performance with no intermission was perfect.

  • So Talented!!!

by mrbsf on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall and her band were just excellent jazz musicians. She was on vocals and piano and was accompanied by a stand up bass, drums and guitar. All of them were accomplished jazz musicians and a delight to listen to.

  • Very Disappointed!!

by Disappointed!! on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 1 out of 5

Low energy, sat behind the piano almost the whole concert, very little interaction with audience, voice was very low most of the time. Too many instrumental routines. Jamming on the base violin?? really?? Do not work! One and done for me!

  • Would have liked more vocals

by EKMR on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

There was some great jazz performed that night, but Diana must have been experiencing some difficulties with her voice. At times it seemed, especially early on, that her voice cracked or she just couldn’t get a sound out. I realize anyone can have a bod night, but I was really disappointed that she didn’t sing more.

  • Beyond expectations!

by KC on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Tanger Center acoustics were perfect! It was like I was sitting in someone’s living room!

  • She might have been drunk

by Cody on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 2 out of 5

I really like her music. The band sounded great. She was slurring her words and hard to understand. Might have been drunk

  • Nice new venue

We thoroughly enjoyed the show Diana Krall and her band put on at the new Tanger Performing Arts Center.

...as always! Diana Krall and her Musicians were FABULOUS! This was a last minute plan for us and we are SO glad we went!

  • Diania not her usual self

by DB on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 2 out of 5

I was so excited to see Diana (for about the fifth time) and introduce a friend to the music of one of the greatest contemporary jazz artists. I was disappointed. Diana didn't sing as much as I'd have liked--lots of bandmate solos which were good, but I came to hear Diana. She was "off"--forgetting lyrics, disengaged, not coming in on time after a solo, etc. My friend, never having heard her before was amazed at how good she sounded. My response: "You should hear her when she's on point."

  • Great show by Diana!

by Matt on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

A not-to-miss concert by a jazz great! The venue is great, friendly staff, uber beverage choices and comfortable seating!

  • Disappointed with Diana Krall

by George P on 10/19/22Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 1 out of 5

I purchased tickets for Diana Krall because I love to hear her sing. The concert was a jam session with her band. She hardly sang at all. I have listened to almost all of her albums and they are all her singing. Sorry I ever purchased the tickets.
