DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

I am new to jazz so I don’t really know how to critique Diana Krall but I will say I loved her style and I definitely will pay to see her show again

  • Diana Krall - The Ultimate on Every Level !!!

by Santa Fe Dude on 7/21/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

We've seen and experienced Diana Krall multiple times throughout the years and she never disappoints. This was an intimate venue where Diana made you feel like you were sitting in her living room and welcoming you in with a "little group of guys"she'd gotten together and she was just going to sit at the piano and sing, play the piano next to the roaring fire !!! Phenomenal !!! Can't ever get enough of Diana Krall !!! Thanks for checking in about the Concert !!! Stellar !!!

  • Diana Krall

by G Griffin on 7/21/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

Ms. Krall appeared to be under the weather and her voice was not quite healthy. She did not appear to be at full strength. The voice I have come to enjoy was not present at this performance. She did not sing as much as she talked through the lyrics. The musicianship was on par but her voice not so much.

  • Great concert

by RC on 7/15/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was a fabulous mashup of her hits, many blending one into another. The venue is fantastic, however the sound was off just a bit. The bass player and drummer were clear, but the piano and Ms. Krall's voice was a bit muted and hard to understand, especially when she was speaking. The song selection was spot on, with both older and newer songs. I can recommend the Woodruff Arts Center for both acoustics and the style. Overall, it was a lovely evening.

  • Great evening of Jazz meets Popular Music

by Dstokes on 7/15/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Diana demonstrated her piano virtuosity from the very beginning of the concert. Her touch and precision are amazing. Accompanied by a great bassist and drummer it was a great concert. And her sultry voice was the icing on the cake.

  • Listen At Home.

by ListenAtHome on 7/14/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

Well, disappointing pretty much sums it up. If we hadn’t had Ordhestra Pit seats, I suspect it would have been worse. I’m not really sure why she even continues to tour. When she talks to the audience, she mumbles as if she’s speaking to herself. After all these years, you’d think she’d know how to speak into a microphone. Her singing was good, her band was better, but you can get better on Spotify without having to buy tickets to a disengaged performer.

  • Very Disappointed!

by Marion on 7/14/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

I have been a fan of Diana Krall for 25 years. I have many of her albums and I’ve heard her in concert before this experience at the Atlanta Symphony. This past Friday was shocking. She was off key, slurred her words and the whole presentation was listless. I felt sorry for her. She mentioned she was sipping wine from what look like a water bottle. We didn’t know if that was a joke or not. Just couldn’t believe it. Just couldn’t believe it!

  • Stunning performance

  • Good music ..... poor sound!

by Gary on 7/14/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

This was the third trip to Symphony Hall for my wife and myself. The music has always been good. However, whoever is running the sound doesn't seem to care about the balcony. We like sitting up there but you can't understand any of the vocals when someone is speaking and only half of the vocals when they're singing. To me, that's very unprofessional. We spend a lot of money to come there. Tickets, parking, gas to and from North Carolina and 6 hours of roundtrip driving. That all adds up to lot only to not be able to understand the vocals. I was a professional musician for most of my life, so I know sound, sound boards, acoustics and the like. I'm not just blowing smoke! Anyway, overall good concert.... you need to have a talk with whoever runs your sound and have them do a little better for those of us in the balcony. We spent money for quality too! Thank you

  • Loved it!!!

by GRC on 7/14/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

We’ve always loved Diana’s music, and have listened to her songs for thirty years. But until now, we’d never seen her live. We were expecting a “concert,” but she amazed us with an intimate gathering that felt more like a small jazz club…just Diana and us (and we’ll…maybe a few thousand others!) Great experience’
