Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena

The Detroit Red Wings have played their home games at Little Caesars Arena in the heart of downtown Detroit since the 2017–2018 season. Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The arena's construction also gave the city of Detroit the unique distinction of having the greatest density of professional sports teams — the Red Wings, Tigers (MLB), Pistons (NBA), and Lions (NFL) — in one downtown core in the country.

Fun time but some room for improvement

by Avs fan in MI on 2/27/24Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

The in-arena dining options were just not that good this time. We had pizza which was very flimsy and chicken tenders that were humongous and kind of gross. They were cooked all the way through which is appreciated. We have been there seven years in a row and previously, all the Red Wings fans were respectful but this time we had lots of snide comments from some fans behind us. The entertainment is fun and the games are high energy.

    Wonderful venue!

by Girls Weekend on 2/3/24Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Little Caesar's Arena is a wonderful venue. Of course concession stand prices are outrageous but the arena itself is outstanding with respect to cleanliness, ease of entering and exiting and staff friendliness. Keep up the good work!

    OK For The Most Part

by Old Wing Fan on 1/30/24Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Arena itself, is nice to visit. The team is competitive. The seating venue is so so. Made for income generation, not fan comfort. The seats in the middle section (M16), are narrow, with minimal leg room. I am 5'9"ish, and found it cramped, and shoulder to shoulder with the person beside me. Disappointing for a newish venue. The men's washroom nearest my exit (Portal 44), was 6 urinals, and lined up from the beginning to the end of intermission. As my wife noted, the women's moved much better. It may be better on the main/lower level, or even the higher one. I do not know. Food and beverage options were OK, but nothing out of the ordinary. I do not recall seeing a local Detroit brewery, but in fairness, I may have missed it. Lineups to get in were excessively long - two lines. They could have used at least one more security/check in line. I would go back, only because I am a Detroit fan. Other than that, I think there are better hockey game experiences to be had.

    Great seats but terrible atmosphere

by JMax59 on 1/17/24Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

To start with the positives the arena itself is really nice. There are plenty of concession stands and beer stands and the lines were not long. We sat in the club level and our view was amazing. But there were a couple of negatives as well. We have been to multiple NHL arenas and this is the worst fan atmosphere that we have ever seen. It was so quiet that I could hear the NFL game that a person 2 seats down from me was watching on their phone. There was not a lot of cheering and it was an overall depressing atmosphere. And last, the ride-share pick up location was terrible. It took us 30-45 minutes and multiple Ubers and Lyft drivers canceling drives before we were able to leave.

    What a night!

by SR on 1/1/24Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

We had an amazing night at Little Caesar’s to take in our Red Wings win in overtime against the Predators. The arena itself is easy to navigate and has surprises at every turn, but the staff is exceptional and makes the experience so much better. Rob directed us to our section but also let us know that our kids could receive a free “first game” certificate (it was their first NHL game). Such a wonderful experience with a sold out crowd. The food was easy to order and delicious. We will be back, for sure!

LSA Red Wing Tour and Game

by Dianne on 12/26/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

The atmosphere at the LSA was exciting. I represent a Nonprofit and we were met by our tour guide who was very informative. We were shown the various immunities the LCA offered and the many areas that fun could be enjoyed by a group. The view of the arena was perfect. A night out to see the Red Wings play was really enjoyable.

    Hockeytown

by Tidal Wave Dave on 12/25/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Let me start by saying Little Caesar’s Arena is magnificent and has a bunch of good options. The event staff are very helpful and friendly. The Red Wings Flyers game might be the best hockey game of the year and the Red Wings win in a shootout!

    Too cold

by JJ on 12/25/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

It was utterly freezing in our seats. We were shivering the entire game. Usher said, “they usually turn the AC off during the game”. It was so cold we couldn’t follow the game.
