Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. • Found Great Unsold Seat for Noon Red Wings Game.

by Chris on 12/1/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Found 4 unsold seats 4 rows from the Ice. Along with wife, we took my visiting daughter and son in-law as our guests. Ticket process was easy. Venue and staff great. Even though the Red Wings lost, our time there sure was fun and memorable!

  • RED WING GAME

by Jll on 11/16/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

We love going to the red Wings games! Love sitting at the drink rail! And the food options are great! The place is always clean inside! They need to get moving on the surrounding area outside! It's been a mess for years now! I was in Tampa for a game and they put us to shame! We can do better! But the venue Itself is amazing!!!

  • Great Game/Great Time

by NYGiantFan on 11/12/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I attended the game as New York Ranger fans visiting Little Caesars Arena. We were treated well, the staff was very friendly and helpful as we navigated around the arena. Our only problem with the arena is the bag policy. My wife e-mailed since it is stated that only bags 4 1/2 X 6 1/2 are allowed. She was told it was a very strict policy. Although we followed the rules, people all around us had bags larger than that size. We believe that is a ridiculous size to expect people to use. As she wrote in her e-mail, her phone is longer than that. Otherwise, everything else was fine.

  • Red Wings WIN!!!

by JulieNick on 10/28/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Getting into LCA was seamless. Got through security and found our seats with 8 minutes to spare before the puck dropped. All the employees we interacted with were very pleasant and helpful. The other people there to watch the game, not so much..... But LCA is not at fault for people acting stupid. We sat in the upper level for the first time. I loved the view looking down on the game. We didn't eat or drink at all, the game seemed to fly by! Bought 50-50 tickets, that was about all. Restrooms were spotless and venue overall was very clean. The crowd is very entertained between periods with the antics on the ice before the zamboni starts. Overall it was fantastic and look forward to the next time I can come for a game or concert or whatever!! Helped a LOT that the Red Wings pulled out a victory after being down 4-0.
