Dermot Kennedy on Tour

Folk singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy has quickly taken the world by storm, rising from a small town in Ireland to release a number of charting singles as well as work with revered musicians and producers like Glen Hansard and Mike Dean (Kanye West, Travis Scott). In 2017, the dynamic performer went on the U.S. festival circuit and played Lollapalooza, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo, making an international name for himself with his high-energy shows. The following year, he went on a world tour and played shows in the U.S., Australia and Europe, hitting Coachella and also playing an NPR Tiny Desk Concert after being voted NPR Slingshot Best New Artist of the Year. Kennedy's live shows flesh out his intimate tunes with a full band, bringing the audience fully inside his expressive songs. Kennedy's tour in 2019 took him across multiple continents as he incorporated tracks from his sophomore album, Without Fear, into his set.

Dermot Kennedy in Concert

Born in 1991 in Ireland, Kennedy was attracted to music at a young age, picking up a guitar at 10 and taking the plunge into songwriting a few years later, at 14. Before long, Kennedy was performing at open mics around Dublin; eventually he found himself busking — playing music on the street for money — in cities around the world. After high school, he studied classical music at the university level for a few years, but ultimately decided to pursue folk music. Kennedy's big break came when he won first place in a major upset at the South County Song Contest at St. Finian's GAA Club, putting him on the radar of industry professionals and singer-songwriters around the world.

After he self-published on Spotify, some of Kennedy's music found its way onto Discover Weekly playlists, which helped him get noticed by a wider audience. His first charting single, "Young & Free," reached No. 82 on the Irish Singles Chart, but his breakthrough came with 2018's "Power Over Me," which reached No. 10 on the Irish Singles Chart, No. 21 on the U.S.'s Hot Rock Songs and No. 5 on Adult Alternative. "Power Over Me" has since been certified gold. Kennedy signed to Interscope and, in January 2019, released his self-titled debut album, which hit No. 5 on the Irish charts.

  • Incredible voice and presence

I Love Dermot Kennedy! He has the most powerful voice and he is such a sweet soul! I loved the show but was incredibly disappointed with the venue. We were facing the stage way up in the back and people were taking and the lights of the stadium stayed open the whole show! I felt like being in a high school reunion- it was extremely disturbing - good thing that the sound was absolutely amazing so I ended up closing my eyes/ I’ll never buy thickets in that part of the stadium another time.

  • Venue/Presentation didn't work

by Dermotfan on 6/18/23Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

Dermot is incredible. His journey is amazing and we LOVE him!! For us as serious concert goers MSG was a bit of a let down. It was dark, GA only 80% filled which left a gaping space.... not much of a show but i don't know whether that's Dermots team or MSG or a combo of both. Been to loads of concerts at MSG and this was easily the poorest presentation. Fortunately, Dermot is so good he could perform in a graveyard and bring people back to life.

  • Great Show

  • Dream Come True

by LindaNYC on 6/17/23Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Dermot Kennedy begin his show at MSG by saying that it was a dream come true to play there as a musician who started out playing on the streets of Dublin. Being there to celebrate his dream was a dream for me also. He is an incredibly gifted musician who is both humble and grateful for his success. Each song endeared him even more to my heart. He’s, in a word, incredible.

He was incredible! One of the few artists I’ve seen that sounds better in person than recorded.

  • An absolute talent

by Nick on 6/17/23The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Dermott's concert packs a wallop of emotions through out. His older album is my preferred album. However, Sonder has numerous songs that hold up very well. In his concert, he gives his all and is incredibly personable.

  • Amazing Artist

by Ria on 6/17/23Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This is my 3rd time seeing Dermot. His voice is so raw and filled with emotion. My friend always says his music is like poetry. It's true, he sings poetry. Also you can feel how much he appreciates his fans and all the success he is having. His song Innocence and Sadness got me this time - second time Dermot made me cry. Every minute, boy, steady rhythm joy!

  • THE BEST!!

by Cole on 6/17/23Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Dermot never ceases to amaze us… he is one artist that truly give his all. You can feel his heart and soul pouring out from every single one of his songs… and for him to sing them live gave us chills from head to toe. I paid a good amount to see him (both times - Boston and MSG) and I will do it again in a heartbeat. My bf is Irish and he couldn’t be more prouder to see Dermot thriving. He is talented, humble, genuine, kind and just overall one of the best artist I have ever heard and seen. I wish him the best of the beat because he deserves it… and more. This American/NYer will love him for life!

  • Dermot is the best

by Holly on 6/17/23The Anthem - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Let me start by saying Dermot was absolutely incredible and my favorite artist ever. The overall experience was disappointing for the vip meet and greet. We paid a lot of money for it. Once we arrived at the venue The Anthem in D.C. we waited in line outside for about 30 minutes which is fine. Then once we got inside and checked in we waited about another 30 minutes. We went upstairs to finally get to listen to Dermot play a few acoustic songs, but we were crammed in this tiny area still standing with the sun beating down through these huge windows and you couldn’t even see Dermot because we were all standing on the same level on the floor. Once that was over we had to get back into another line for a fast picture with Dermot which took another 30 minutes waiting and still standing. Then we went back downstairs to wait again to enter into the stage part of the venue which at this point was 15 minutes before the general public tickets were able to enter. We finally got to go enter and it was standing room only so everyone rushed to the front of the stage to get close. The front of the stage was not Roped off to separate the VIP tickets from the general admission tickets so 10 minutes later everyone came pushing their way in to get to the stage. We then stood waiting for the concert to start another hour and 45 minutes later. The concert started and that was wonderful except for if you had to get out of your spot to go get a Drink or use the bathroom because it was impossible to get in and out of the ground. The overall standing time we had to do was a total of 7.5 hours. I truly feel that VIP meet and greet should be able to sit at some point during the waiting. The stage area should have been roped off to separate the guests. As I said I absolutely love Dermot Kennedy and everything about his performance. I was just very disappointed with the VIP meet and greet experience.
