DeRay Davis is quickly killing Hollywood with his hilarious humor and persona. His film credits include Old Dogs, Life as We Know It, Imagine That, School for Scoundrels, Scary Movie 4, Barbershop 1&2 and Johnson Family Vacation.
On the small screen, DeRay has appeared in HBO's "Entourage", Comedy Central's "Reno 911", Comedy Central Presents DeRay Davis, and BET's "ComicView" along with numerous voices on The Boondocks.
DeRay can be seen in the Sony feature 21 Jump Street, and his hour comedy special POWER PLAY debuted last year on Showtime.
On the recording side, DeRay wrote and performed the comedy skits on two Kanye West LPs, and he performed at the 2006 Grammy Awards with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx.
A born hustler from Chicago’s South Side, DeRay was first noticed by Hollywood at Atlanta’s Laffapalooza Festival. DeRay won the Comedy Central Laugh Riots Competition and was a standout on the Cedric the Entertainer Tour and at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival.
Nothing but laughs all night! It was my first time at a comedy show and I can't wait to go see another!
It was a very good show. All did funny sets. Would go again.
Side-Splitting Funny! I almost hyperventilated laughing so much. Gary Owen was the perfect host. All the comedians were so funny,
I will recommend to a friend. Will come back. I hope they will be come back real soon. I need anot here good laugh.
DeRay had my date and myself laughing the entire time he was on stage. We truly enjoyed his show. His opening acts were very funny as well. Awesome Experience!
Overall the comedians we great they kept me laughing throughout the show. However there was an unnecessary 15 intermission and then another break in the show with some old men coming on stage to stall by gyrating and popping for the fact that someone clearly had to be late. I would recommend going to see the comedians without the extras.
Good show. The comedians were pretty funny, Deray was the best. They could have left out the Jit dancers during intermission tho!
My only issue is that the show did not start on time and about 30 minutes into the show they took another 15 minute intermission, which caused the show to run late. Because the show ran late I missed my reservations afterward. Overall it was a good show.
I could have saved my money on this show. I'm not sure if the lackluster production was a reflection of the venue, the artist, or both. It was hood. The DJ couldn't get it together for anything. He failed to play a song excerpt correctly, which ruined one of the comedian's jokes in his act, though he took in in stride. He played offensive music during the breaks including a song who's hook was "I dog h**s" which was repeated over and over again. Still, the most interesting part was the intermission where a dance group consisting of middle-aged men in their comedy show outfits took the stage and proceeded to git. I thought I was being punked. Deray himself was funny. But the 'friends' part of Deray Davis and Friends were comedians who you've never heard of before. Mind you, they were actually funny, but the prices to see Deray and his unknown comedian friends were too steep for the quality of the show.
All I can say is that the comedy concert was SUPER FUNNY!!! I really had a great time.
Eventhough the weather affected the turn out all the comedians brought great energy and showed their talent.
We had a great time! The show was good, very funny at times, and mildly humorous at others; overall it was a nice, intimate way to bring in the New Year. I LOVED Gary Owen!!! We stayed at the Hyatt and never had to go outside. It was all very convenient especially in the midst of a Chicago winter storm! We shared some drinks, some laughs, and some much needed time with each other.
Don't know who the other two clowns were -- Deray Davis and Red Grant-- but Gary Owen was the funniest of the bunch. Although I had heard some of the jokes he told Tuesday night (on the radio Tom Joyner Morning Show), Owen still delivered with laughs, unlike the other two fools. Owen nimbly sidestepped abundant hecklers who actually toned it down for Owen's part of the show. Hecklers ran Deray Davis ragged, probably because he wasn't funny at all. Most of Davis' show was spiking back at heckler, not what I paid money to hear. Overall, a weak show all around; comics seemed more interested in getting the show over so they could go out and party New Year's. Don't remember anything of Grant's show. Think we could have done better at Jokes and Notes that evening, but I got these tickets on credit card points, so didn't waste a lot of money here. You shouldn't either.
I really enjoyed the show, everything was well organized.
I enjoyed all the comedians. Red Grant was awesome, he has great energy! I was a little disappointed with Deray due to the heckler in the balcony. Deray trash talked him which was understandable, but it wene on too long and took away from his act which was why we left early before he was done. Security was a little sparce which was a concerndue to the few outbursts in the audience.
This show was way better than last year, Gary is funny as hell and so is Red please don't change your line up De!!!
Very Funny. Gary Owen and Red Grant are hillarious but Deray Davis stole the show.....And he is fine. Didn't realize how good he looks in person. I didn't really care for the hecklers in the crowd though. They took up too much of the comedians time that he could have been telling jokes instead. One thing is for sure, you can not out talk the comedian with the microphone. He will always get the last word.
Was disappointed int he show for the amount of money we spent on the tickets. Comdenians were flat. Not humorous like I have seen them perform in the past. Deray spent too much time ragging the audience. It was like he did not have any jokes prepared. Red Grant was the funniest. I bought tickets based on Gary Owens, he was not his usually funny self. Sad to say, I regretted that we took the time out for a great new years and traveled to Chicago and did not enjoy the show.
Gary, Deray, and Redd ALL did a great job! I was almost in tears when Deray started roasted the guys in the audience who were taking shots at him! I also admired the fact that Gary Owen invited his wife out to countdown the New Year with everyone! Too bad there was no confetti or Balloon drop though. That woud have been nice considering it was New Year Eve! Overall a good time!
The show was great 3 funny comedians and and funny host. No better way to bring in the new year!
