I've saw Dennis DeYoung back in 2015 and was blown away by the performance so I've been watching for a chance to see him again. After so many years, his voice is still spot on, just like listening to an album and the band is great too. Add Hoyt Sherman for a venue and it was simply awesome. Dennis is an amazing performer and anyone who enjoys music would love one of his shows. "Styx" can have original band members but only Dennis has the voice of Styx...Rock on Dennis!!!
The concert lasted 2 1/2 hours with the intermission lasting maybe 30 minutes. DeYoung started out with songs from The Grand Illusion album and after the intermission, played their greatest hits. Dennis’ voice hasn’t changed since he sang these songs in the 70’s. The light show was quite good, too. Great memories were brought back listening to all of these favorite songs!!
Great show and filled one off my bucket list to see him perform at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, Iowa
Dennis DeYoung put in a great show at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, Iowa last Friday night. The first half of the show was the complete Grand Illusion album, and the second half of the show contained Styx greatest hits, which Dennis DeYoung wrote and sang. Dennis, his band, and the complete show were flawless. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys good music and want to have a great time!
Awesome experience - talented musicians, who played with passion and were loving every minute of it.
It’s well-known that Dennis DeYoung has written lots of great songs. It’s also well known that the break up of Styx was very acrimonious. I’ve seen both Styx and Dennis DeYoung in the past and the shows were just “OK.“ There was always something missing. This time around Dennis DeYoung brought in some outstanding players and voices to re-create the sound of his original band. These players even looked the part. For once we heard all of the sounds of Styx including songs sung by James Young and Tommy Shaw. This was the best sounding representation I’ve heard since the last time I saw the original group perform. DeYoung is still on top of his game at 72 and it looks like he’s having more fun now than he has in a long time. This is a must see for Styx fans.
Great venue and fantastic performance. Everyone I spoke with at the concert agreed. Dennis was awesome and he’s assembled a very good band to compliment him. Den
What an amazing performance! Saw him in Atlantic City at the Borgata. He sounds just like he did in his younger years! He has so much talent and I didn’t want it to end!! No pun intended! 😄
Super show!! Dennis still has his voice and the music was exceptional. There was no drop-off from the way the group sounded in the 70 and 80's. Would go again if they came back into the area.
They did the album the Grand Illusion from start to finish and then did their greatest hits. Dennis DeYoung is the only original member but the new guitarist/singer sounds a lot like Tommy Shaw. I would highly recommend this show.
Dennis DeYoung came out and started rockin' immediately. We had great seats, nobody stood up and blocked our view, which happens more times than not. Dennis DeYoung did a fantastic job on every song they sang, they compliment each other well, I'd go see them again and would encourage any Styx fan to see them in they come close to a venue near you.
Great show but short...could have played another 30 minutes. Did not play Sweet Madam Blue or much from Equinox or Cristal Ball still a great show. Seen them in original form Dec.31 1976 at the warehouse Nola now that was a concert..
Everything from the seating to the greeters to the bar tenders, was amazing. The show was an awesome experience.
As a Styx lover since the 70's, I'm not sure I would ever not love one of their concerts. And this one didn't disappoint either. Great tunes, fun times!
The concert was amazing. Dennis De Young never disappoints! The Hard Rock Casino was fun! We will return.
We saw this same show two years ago. Except now, it has much less energy. Please let your poor wife stay home. She looked tired and bored. Even the marathon joke was the same. Wish we’d saved our money on these tickets. Very disappointed.
Wonderful to hear the songs from years gone by. Mr. DeYoung still has that beautiful voice and the guitar players were simply amazing!! Thanks for the memories!!
I've attended a Styx concert, or two, or three, but I've never had the chance to see and hear Dennis DeYoung. So with his recent tour which centered on the "Grand Illusion" album in it's entirety (along with some Styx greatest hits) here was the opportunity. No disappointment that the rest of Styx has gone their own way, because Dennis and his new band were phenomenal! They ran through the album and tore into the hits with musical precision. Dennis was quite the showman too, and he had plenty of storytelling to go along with the music. Mr. Roboto, Lady, Blue Collar Man, all there and to sum up, this show was more Styx than....well, Styx. Keep performing, Dennis. Excellent show!
L'Auberge Casino & Hotel Baton Rouge , Baton Rouge, LA This is the worse concert venue I’ve ever attended. Floor seating is absolutely horrible. There is hardly any leg room between seats which makes it nearly impossible for someone to pass while you are sitting. I would never attend another concert at this location, even for free tickets. It’s simply not worth it. Decided to see Dennis DeYoung again on October 25, 2019 at the Hardrock Casino in Biloxi, Ms. I even had front row seats. The show was the exact same lineup as the Baton Rouge L'Auberge Casino. Even the same dumb jokes And comments were all the same. I would never pay to see him again.
