About

DELBERT MCCLINTON IN CONCERT:

Veteran Texas bluesman Delbert McClinton is a talented recording artist who is no stranger to the top of the charts, but the real magic happens when he hits the stage. McClinton's hootin' and hollerin' take on the blues gets the whole crowd jumping at his live shows. His incredible harmonica and guitar playing really bring favorites like "Giving It Up for Your Love" and "Every Time I Roll the Dice" to life. Whether he's telling a hilarious story or sharing the spotlight with his killer saxophonist, McClinton is a gracious and authentic performer who always impresses on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Lubbock, Texas, McClinton cut his teeth playing in a bar band called the Straitjackets before hitting the charts in 1962 with his harmonica playing on Bruce Channel's No. 1 hit "Hey! Baby". He began releasing his own albums in the early '70s, finding his way onto the charts with albums like Love Rustler (1977) and Keeper of the FLlame (1979). A talented songwriter, McClinton also penned hits for other artists, including the 1978 Emmylou Harris No. 1 smash "Two More Bottles of Wine". He scored a hit single of his own in 1980 with "Giving It Up for Your Love", which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. McClinton continued releasing successful albums throughout the '80s and '90s, but things really picked up in the '00s when he landed four No. 1 albums on the US Blues chart and nabbed a Grammy for his 2005 album The Cost of Living. A gifted performer, McClinton continues to tear it up for fans whenever and wherever he tours.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Delbert put on a great show last night! He was energetic and as always, his band was superb!"

"Delbert is still making us sing and dance as he always has. With a terrific young sax player and superb drummer, he and his band had us out of our seats and having a rollicking good time. "

"Delbert McClinton is a Hall of Famer and a Legend, but make no mistake he can rock the house. His show was filled with great song after great song. Blues, rock, honky tonk, country and boogie woogie. He is the consummate artist, singer songwriter"

    Delbert McClinton

by SuperSoul on 8/8/09Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Delbert was GREAT as usual. Getting better with age like a fine wine. HOWEVER--the lack of seating for this standing show had people bitching and leaving the show early and avoiding the long lines at the bar to go outside into the casino to get a drink. Delbert draws a older crowd and they arent going to stand for two hours no matter how good the act is. Attending Counting Crows the night before at the Beau Rivage the venue was great with a perfect mix of the upper seats and the floor for standing and dancing.

    Delbert is awesome

by Momsyl on 8/8/09Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

I think I am a Delbert groupie! I attend every concert in this area. I was very disappointed when Katrina blew away the casinos and canceled his performance. Last night was an excellent show. He and his band are so enthuiastic and he really interacts with the crowd. The music is original, interesting and entertaining. It was a very good concert and I hope to go to another one.

by steve48 on 8/8/09Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Delbert was fabulous, as expected. The band was the best I've heard! They hit the stage rockin' and did not stop for an hour and forty five minutes. Great show!

    Delbert is still amazing

by thatsmetoo on 8/8/09Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Delbert was great. The only thing I had a problem with is my back was hurting (had been to the doctor for it) and there was no place to sit. Had to stand the whole time. The concert was awsome. If my back had not been hurting, I would have enjoyed myself more.

Seth Walker and his band opened and was great. Seth is a very accomplished blues guitarist. Delbert took the stage for about an hour and 15 mins. The music was great but the venue is dinner seating, no exceptions. delbert gets off on the audience dancing ,its not gonna happen at the birchmere.never again.

    A Pleasant Surprise!

    by Byron123 on 7/18/09Birchmere - Alexandria

This is the first time that I have seen Delbert McClinton and I am so glad that I got the chance. I have admired many of his songs and sorry to say he didn't sing "Standing on Shaky Ground" but he did sing "Giving up for Your Love". He's funny and warm to crowd and his band was absolutely fantastic as well. When Seth Walker came out to play with the band they rocked the Birchmere.

    Delbert is still the best!!

by DelbertFanatic on 7/18/09Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Delbert continues to be the best feel good artist out there. Anyone who can sit still when listening to Delbert must be deaf or dead. Delbert's show was great, but it was a shame that it was not advertised or even listed in the "Tickets for Sale" section of the local newspaper. The theater was only half full meaning there was a lost opportunity for many others to enjoy the show.

    not up to delbert standards

    by hokie63 on 7/17/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Over the years I have seen Delbert at least 30-40 times. This is the 2nd time he has had too much to drink. His show was laced eith profanities and vulgarities. Aside from the previously mentioned distractions, the band was not as tight as it normally is. This may be because he had new sax, trumpet and bass players. Delbert spent too much time pushing his new album due out in August. We look foreward to his shows as he has been our favorite artist. We had guests who had not seen his show and we were embarassed for them and we felt embarassed for Delbert. His performance was disrespectful to everyone.

    Delbert is the Bomb

by Artsey on 7/16/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Delbert and his amazing band remain the cornerstone of blues/rock music. The level of excellence and play at the Birchmere performance was classic Delbert. He always recognizes and promotes his band members and even promotes their individual recordings. It is always a kick to attend the Delbert concerts, he just keeps doing it!

Delbert was great as usual. We were pleased to see that he interacted with the audiance. Why go see Delbert if you don't expect to see some interaction?

    Delbert was fabulous!

    by Bunny123 on 7/15/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Bring Delbert McClinton's gritty yet melodic bluesy music together with the intimate venue at the Birchmere, and you've got an unbeatable combination. The opening act was great, too--it looks like Delbert's grooming him to be his successor, and he's got the chops.

    Great show

by RockyRococo on 7/15/09Birchmere - Alexandria

For a guy his age, Delbert rocks. The starter act, Seth Walker, was absolutely awesome. I will always try to catch Delbert when he's in the area, but Seth is one of my new faves.

    Delbert McClinton is awesome

by anyone on 7/13/09Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Delbert rocked the Uptown Theater Friday night. It's the 3rd time we've been to see him and this was the best show ever. The songs from his new soon to be released CD made us anxious for it to come out.

    Great duo

by MizzouTiger on 7/13/09Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Delbert is excellent but he & Kelley Hunt are awesome together - it would help if he knew the words to the songs they sang together.

Delbert and Kelley Made My Day

by DickyDoRight on 7/12/09Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Can't think of anyplace I would have rather been than seeing Kelley Hunt again. Everytime I see her she gets better, and I've told her so. Delbert's great too but Kelley can't be beat.

    Awesome Performance

by Abilene on 7/12/09Uptown Theater - Kansas City

I was fortunate enough to attend the Delbert McClinton Concert Friday Night. I intentionally drove 2-1/2 hours to see the concert, because I specifically wanted to see Kelley Hunt. Her performance was exceptional and more than I expected. The whole Concert was great. Both Artists had great talent along with their bands, and I would recommend this Concert to anyone who wants to forget about their troubles and just have a night of fun!
