    Hot Chocolate was amazing!

by fowlmary on 12/16/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Loved the multi-culturalism.The kids were all so well trained and executed perfectly! Wish I had a program. Couldn't find them until after and then the line was way too long. The venue has very difficult access for the handicapped and was quite a struggle until I ran into one of the three wheelchairs. All-in-all it cost me $25 in tips to get to my seat BUT it was all worth it! Will go again next year and encourage members of my church to attend.

Wow! I can't wait until next year. Just amazing!

by bigizin on 12/16/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

I can't believe how much fun I had and to see and hear the young and old children laugh and dance in their seats really warmed my heart. Thank you Ms. Allen for giving me a new family tradition.

    HC Nutcracker Unforgettable!!

by ChocMarLi on 12/16/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

The production of Hot Chocolate Nutcracker was very delightful. The costumes and set designs were magical. My favorite scene was that of the rain forest coming to life and the monkeys and birds moving through the audience. Some of the soundtracks need to be re-worked for sound quality but overall a very good show. Waiting for next year.

My family and I have been attending this show since its inception and we are NEVER disappointed! I've even introduced it to friends and family and they too have nothing but good things to say about it.

    HCN was FABULOUS!

by Fahamivu on 12/16/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

This was my first time attending Debbie Allen's HCN and I have to say it was a fabulous evening of music, dance, beautiful costumes and set design. I took it upon my self to suggest to my family that we need to start a Christmas tradition of attending theater and concerts during the holiday season and HCN was the event to set it off! Everyone loved it and I'm sure we will return next year with more friends and family accompanying us.

    Hot Chocolate was sweet

by Zafrin on 12/16/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Being prejudiced , I have two children in the production however watching Miss Allen take these four to eighteen year olds and forge them into a production company was the material of a reality show. The show for them started with auditions and only ended offstage when they said goodbye. The show is proof of the vision and capacity of Debbie Allan to teach our young girls and boys to be Dancers. To watch the disparate group of children dance like the pros they are warms your heart. The material is a fresh and accessible take on the classic nutcracker which although a magnificent score and performance is only for aficionados of Ballet, this performance has something for everyone. Kudos to the cast and Miss Debbie

The kids were outstanding. Choreography was fabulously. The creativity was like nothing I have ever seen. Positive energy. Like a trip around thecworld. Costumes were jazzy. I have been wanting to see Hot Chocolate Nutcracker for two years and finally. Seats were excellent. A musst see.

A beautifully funny, witty, and modern interpretation of the classic ballet! Talent on the stage and talent in the audience! Autographs by celebrities in the lobby outpaced autographs by the cast! UCLA was gorgeous, the weather perfect!

    Show was breathtaking

by DrTimG on 12/16/14Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Debbie Allen and her team drew together traditional and modern dance techniques across numerous cultures in a breathtaking display. The choreographic approach was well thought out. Many scenes had dozens on stage with a wide variety of age groups; the visuals were smooth and the dances were technically flawless. The use of integrated storytelling brought an element to the performance that kept the audience engaged. The use of background visual effects also added to the experience. The end result was a powerful and memorable performance.

Disappointed. Expected better from Debbie Allen

by Jorosky2013 on 12/18/13Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Very disappointed with Debbie Allen's Hot Chocolate Nutcracker production. I was looking forward to it, but from the start onward, it just didn't meet the standards we have come to expect from Debbie Allen. The performance began late. The opening was messy and the stage was overcrowded. It was difficult to see all the performers on stage. The show's best acts were with streamlined performances such as Candy Cane Land and the dancing couple in air on ribbon hanging from the ceiling. Kudos, though to costuming and stage design in acts such as Egypt and Bollywood. All in all, it was a courageous effort, but fell short of a production that charges the public a lot of money to see it. I would not recommend this performance.
