About

Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

They were so amazing. Death Cab is probably one of the best bands i've seen live. I love them and I highly recommend you go to one of their shows. You won't be disappointed. They're such a talented group of guys.

  • Another great show by DCFC!

This was the second time I was seeing Death Cab for Cutie at the Greek and I must say that this time it was a much better show. Now this might have had to do with the fact that I was seeing them for the first time with my fiance, who is also a big fan. It seemed like they were more energetic and the energy was definitely passed on to the crowd. Death Cab is one of my favorite bands to see live and just one of my favorite bands in general. Can't wait to see them again!

DCFC put on an amazing show Saturday night! I've seen them perform at least half a dozen times and this show was by far their best yet! These guys are rock-star gods!!

AWESOME! EVERYTHING YOU THINK IT WOULD BE AND MORE.

  • Death Cab was undermined by poor sound system!

    by Eat4Health on 7/13/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 3 out of 5

This was my first show with DCFC so I was excited. Unfortunately the sound system at the Greek is mediocre at best. I could barely make out the vocals in the songs. In addition, I was surrounded by smokers of various tobacco preferences (if you catch my drift.) I came away with a let down and emphysema to boot.

  • Death Cab was amazing as always!

My fiancee is a huge Death Cab fan, and we had a great time at the concert last year, so when I heard they were coming around again I got him tickets as a St. Valentine's Day present. We had a fantastic time, met up with some old friends and enjoyed the music. Death Cab came out after the rain had stopped (since when does it rain in Berkely in July???) and was just wonderful. I love the band, my fiancee loves the band, and all was well. They played so many wonderful songs, especially older stuff that most of the crowd didn't know. The new songs off the EP are awesome too.

  • D.C. 4 C.

    by calboy1976 on 7/13/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

All the bands were professionals. RaRa Riot and nice surprise. A bit of an Arcade Fire vibe. I was very disappointed in a lot of the crowd ( maybe most of them the burb's?). A lot of talking, singing ( bad ) along with Death Cab, a lot of drunks and "land/cement grabs" of Greek stadium style seating ( taking up 4 seats per person ). I wish the concert goers were as "pro" as the bands...

  • Death Cab, Bird, & Ra Ra Riot make an EPIC trio!

    by Muetteronomy on 7/13/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

From start to finish the show was incredible. Ra Ra Riot has become on of my new favorites. I loved the girls on the strings. Andrew Bird was just as amazing, if not more than I anticipated. With his quirky personality shining through, his inhuman ability to whistle, and his talent at many instruments was awesome! I loved every minute of his set. As for Death Cab, they blew me away. They played some oldies and newbies. It was cool to hear the whole crowd sing with them. I couldn't have asked for a better venue too. Great show. I'd go see all of them again.

Overall, I would say this was an absolutely amazing concert. The New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara, and Death Cab for Cutie were each very good. Plus, the LA Phil and the firework finale made this concert unforgettable.

  • Death Cab for Cutie and some other guys

    by Tingaleo on 7/13/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

Not all that familiar with the band but took my nieces and fiancee to the show and they all had a great time. My fiancee is definitely more of a fan than my nieces but they all sang along to most of the songs. The opening bands were entertaining but they didn't spend much time playing. It would have been nice if they had played a few more songs. It also would have been nice if someone had passed me a joint. I think everyone at the Greek Theatre was lighting up but me.

  • AMAZING! WONDERFUL!

Weird weather adds to the stigma of the Greek theatre. Great music amazing sound.

  • Death Cab was the perfect end to a hectic week

    by ZoeT on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

I arrived late to the show because I was at work prior to it, so by the time I got there it was packed, but I found a spot on the lawn and just sat back and relaxed and enjoyed the show. Death Cab is great live and it was so fun to watch them play. The sound was a little low, but not enough to ruin the experience. I'd definitely recommend that any Death Cab fans go see this show!

  • Death Cab was awesome!!

    by Arby on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

Death Cab for Cutie are an awesome band! It started raining but noone was really bothered. I noticed that the mood was more mellow than other concerts I'd been to at the Greek but their music and they sound soo good live! I was hoping for more visual stimulation but still thoroughly enjoyed the music. I'm still humming the tunes 1 day later..

  • Death Cab at the Greek

    by heybree on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen Death Cab a few times now...the first was just before Plans was released. At Austin City Limits, and I felt like I was discovering a whole new sound. Last night's show at the Greek was so big and polished. It was definitely a good show, but interesting to see how a little band becomes a big machine. It seems they still like to jam together, which is nice to see. Andrew Bird opened and I think he's an amazing virtuoso. I've seen him 3-4 times and am always surprised and amazed by what he puts together. Four stars for him.

  • great bands, great sets, great venue

    by talkingmagpies on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

I had never heard of the first opening act, Ra Ra Riot, before this, but I absolutely love Death Cab For Cutie, and Andrew Bird, the other opening act, even more. All bands played wonderfully, even though I think Death Cab is better live than the others are. The only problem I had with the bands and setlists was that Andrew Bird's set was shorter than what I would have liked, and the songs he played weren't his best. All of them did a fantastic job, and although I probably won't go out and buy a Ra Ra Riot CD I do appreciate them playing. What's more, this was the first event I have been to in the Greek Theatre. I'm from Cleveland, so I'm used to being shoved around in small, dark, and sometimes slightly dangerous [yet still somehow slightly charming] bars, taverns, and other popular venues. This huge outdoor theater, built in a style to completely surround one with sound, was quite refreshing, despite the small amount of rain we experienced.
