About

Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

  • DCFC + LA Phil + Fireworks = AMAZING!

by Gurliepunker on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Both opening bands (New Pornagraphers and Tegan and Sara) were great and Death Cab's first set was awesome as usual. When they came back after intermission with 50 of their new friends (LA Phil), the show was spectacular. They sounded great and their stage presence was energetic. The last song Transatlanticism is always a great one to end on and with the addition of the fireworks, it made for a beautiful finale! Even without the fireworks, I would definitely see Death Cab again anywhere but especially at the Hollywood Bowl. Fantastic show!

  • DCFC @ Hollywood Bowl

by Natsters on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Openers the New Pornographers and Teagan and Sara were surprisingly enjoyable. Death Cab was great, but I thought their set was too short. The finale was definitely the best part of the show...Transatlanticism accompanied by the La Phil and fireworks. Awesome.

  • Wonderful Show, but Needed More Philharmonic.

by JMRMS on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Really enjoyed the show last night at the Bowl. The New Pornographers and Tegan and Sara both were great, although the massive venue hurt both of their sets; it's not really their fault, considering it might be the biggest place either have played. Death Cab was incredible, and the songs with the Philharmonic were really special. My only beef was that the Phil only came out for the second half of the set, and I felt they were kept a little buried in the mix. Otherwise, a great night.

  • DCFC, always comes through.

by CassLynn on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

A great show! Tegan and Sara were also engaging. I wish the New Pornographers played a little longer, but I suppose that's what you get with an opening band.

  • Death cab show amazing.

by spittingpigeon on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

The hollywood bowl is an excellent venue to watch concerts. The acoustics were amazing and the ending fireworks display was the best show finish I have ever seen.

  • Fireworks!

by Claire on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Death Cab for Cutie, The New Pornographers and Tegan and Sara all put on excellent shows! I just wish the orchestra had been mixed better, so we could have heard it over the cheering and singing. Overall, a great concert to have attended.

  • Death Cab Evening was Enjoyable

by kirvinca on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Tegan and Sara were a great opening act. This was my first time to see Death Cab in concert, and I was there with my 15 year old grandson. He's seen them before, and been to other concerts, and he said this was the best concert he's been to EVER. I enjoyed it very much as well. The portion of the concert where they were backed by the LA Philharmonic was wonderful. The Hollywood Bowl is a wonderful venue, very crowd friendly. A couple people got rowdy and the ushers handled it very well.

  • DCFC--a bit unprepared

by DCFCFan on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5

Being a long-time DCFC fan and seeing them 3 different times, I was a bit disappointed w/the show. DCFC should've played more songs w/the LA Phil and the few songs that they did play were pretty sloppy.

  • DCab rocked!

by Lokii on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I just wish the show was longer & louder. I want to feel the kick drum in my chest.

  • Tegan and Sara always charms

by peekehq on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Tegan and Sara always gives a good show both with their music and bickering. Their attempt to reach out to the audience most often results in hilarious conversations and surprisingly charming awkward moments.

  • Tegan and Sara should have played longer!!

by Mandie on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Good show! DCFC playing with La Philharmonic was awesome and great fireworks ending but Tegan and Sara didn't have enough time on stage. That was very disappointing.

  • An amazing band playing with a 50 piece ochestra!

by Joel on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

This was an excellent show. The New Pornographers I'd never seen but they put on a decent show. Tegan and Sarah were great (as well as adorable) and Death Cab for Cutie was amazing. They're one of my favorite bands, so how can you miss the once in a life time opportunity to see them perform with an entire orchestra? They came out and played almost a full set by them selves then returned with the LA Phil and played some of our favorite DCFC songs with the orchestra and finished it off with a firework display. I really don't know how you can top that.

  • Great Show

by Juana on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

The New Pornographers did very well. Who knew Tegan and Sara, my new favorite girl band, would be so a delightful and talented? DCFC was amazing as expected. My only complaint is that something was off with the Hollywood Bowl sound. For the opening bands, the sound was distorted. During the main act the sound mixing was off. The Philharmonic Orchestra brass section was a little too prominent.

  • DCFC July 5th HB

by Lovedcfcbestever on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

The best show ever that we have seen by DC this is our 4th in LA area. Tegan and Sara were wonderful and would see them as a headliner! The last half of the DC show was amazing with the LA Philharmonic accomanyment to DC and the fireworks were unexpected but an amazing end to a wonderful show! Did not want it to end.

  • Amazingly rich concert!

    by mrh3715 on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

This was a phenomenal event. The starting groups Tegan and Sara and the New pornographers started things off with great music. Death cab was fantastic in the 2nd half. The addition of LA Phil made the music so rich and all was topped off with surprise Bowl fireworks. Overall amazing evening.

  • amazing venue, amazing artists

by iheartzooey on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

you can never go wrong with a summer show at the Hollywood Bowl, but this one in particular will stay in my mind for a long time. Tegan and Sara were fantastic, and i've been in love with Ben Gibbard since 1996, so needless to say Death Cab was phenomenal. they played their last few songs with the LA Phil - incredible - and the fireworks at the end were the icing on the cake.

  • Deah Cab for Cutie was amazing!

    by musiclover1 on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

This whole concert was amazing from the New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara, Death Cab and the Philhamonic. The fireworks display at the end was outstanding. This was definitely one of the best concerts I have been to recently. I would definitely see all of these 3 bands again. Their singing and sound was great.

  • Death Cab for Cutie at the Hollywood Bowl

    by LA73 on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

This show was great. If you are a fan of the band, then of course you'll love this show. The sound was not that great, and at times it was difficult to hear the vocals. It did have amazing fireworks at the end though.

  • Tegan and Sara Stole the Show

by DJFresca on 7/6/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Tegan and Sara were beyond amazing.... not only was the music incredible they were funny and engaging. While I love Death Cab for Cutie, it was really Tegan and Sara's night. I cannot wait to see them again.
